Chapter 430: Advancement
Chapter 430: Advancement
The message from Carmen was extremely simple, only a few words, but these words were enough to please Xu Feng dearly.
Lunar Wraith: I'm Tier 1.
She had done it!
Carmen actually passed her Tier 1 advancement at record speed.
Excited, Xu Feng quickly dialed her for a video call. A few seconds later, a gleeful Carmen appeared on the screen.
"How did you pass it so fast?" Xu Feng asked, losing his composure slightly. He had anticipated she would be done in a day or two, but she had surprised him dearly this time.
"Ah, it was easy since I went to the Vanguard Blacksmith and encountered Howard who was inspecting the shop." Carmen clasped her hands and said.
"Howard? You mean Managar Howard from the Adventure Association?" Suddenly, Xu Feng had a bad premonition.
"Mhmm, Howard was trying to look for the Guild Leader, but you weren't there at that time."
"Uh-huh… I was still at Paradise Plains."
"So he inquired about me and once he realized how closely related I was with you. Howard was generous enough to open the guild's vault and said he owes you a bit of favor."
Having heard that, Xu Feng felt as if he had lost a few years of his life.
'Fuck, no wonder that Howard was playing hide-n-seek with me for a long time!' He finally understood his elusive movement. It wasn't that he was afraid of how to compensate him, but rather, he was waiting for Carmen to return and reveal the explosive news of the debt being paid already.
That too at a cheap cost!
"So how many Scrolls did he give you out of 'generosity', Carmen?" Xu Feng felt like his internal organs were bleeding intensely as he asked that question.
"Howard was really generous. He gave me a total of 15 Tier 1 Scrolls and said trying to advance a tier is difficult and 15 would do the trick." Carmen smiled innocently, unaware of the depression Xu Feng was currently feeling.
When she noticed Xu Feng was behaving weirdly, Carmen became suspicious.
Her face pale a bit as she asked, "W-Was I not supposed to receive the gift from Howard?"
"No, you did good. Haha, I'll give my thanks to Manager Howard later on for his assistance." He laughed merrily and complimented her sincerely. Not an ounce of anger or resentment could be seen on his face or heard from his tone.
"Okay~," Carmen thought she was merely overthinking things and continued, "I'll return to Star Falls City soon. I still need to help boost my friend's level to be eligible."
"Hmm, but you can just kindly 'ask' the guard in charge of the teleportation platform." Xu Feng kindly reminded her that bribing was a good trick.
"That won't do!" Carmen shook her head and denied the notion.
"My friend is still new and needs to learn the mechanics. She's getting the hang of it already though and I don't want her to get an impression that the Guild Leader is a short-cut taker."
"Alright, but you have around 5 hours or so. I'm going to need you for the raid." Xu Feng gave her a time limit. He couldn't afford for his strongest Summoner to be absent. Otherwise, the raid would be more difficult than necessary.
"But 5 hours isn't enough," Carmen pursed her lips, refraining from arguing with him too much.
"It's enough. Once the hours are up, regardless of whether she reached the level requirement or not, have her come over to Star Falls City. I'll let her experience a large-scale raid."
"Really? You're going to give up a slot for my friend?"
"Yes, Crimson Heart won't be able to make it, so a slot is vacant."
"Woo, you're the best, Guild Leader."
"Okay, so—"
Before Xu Feng could finish his statement, the call had already ended.
While he was left speechless at the dark screen, elsewhere in Riverwood Town, Carmen's friend, Vortex Viper asked, "Who were you speaking to?"
"Oh, it's just my Guild Leader and he said you can join the raid," Carmen exclaimed, feeling quite happy about the event.
"The raid?" Startled, Vortex Viper recalled her mentioning that the raid was a large-scale one and numerous guilds and teams were cooperating together.
Could she really join such a raid as a newbie?
'Won't I become a burden for Carmen and her Guild Leader?' As grateful as she was, Vortex Viper, otherwise known as Veronica in the real world, was in a dilemma.
Naturally, she wished to partake in such a raid, but at the same time, she knew her skills and coordination were severely lacking.
Unaware of her concern, Carmen lightly patted her shoulder and smiled, "You don't know how amazing my Guild Leader is. I was once an amateur like you and I barely know much about the Divine World. But he still taught me very patiently and considerately."
"He didn't get mad at clumsy actions or mistakes?" Alarmed, Veronica found it baffling that her guild leader didn't blame her once at least.
"Why would he?" Carmen glanced at her with a dazed expression, almost as if she thought her question was ridiculous.
"Isn't that how most people would react though?"
"If that's the case with my Guild Leader, then did you think I would remain in his guild?"
"Y-You have a point there…"
"Okay, enough blabbering, and let's get this show on the road. 5 hours later, we must meet with the Guild Leader at Star Falls City," Carmen exclaimed and quickly dragged her arm to another hunting ground to earn experience points.
As she was dragged along the journey, Veronica's curiosity about Carmen's mysterious guild leader grew stronger.
Carmen often mentioned Lin Feng in passing, so Veronica had done some research of her own. And to her surprise, she was nearly shocked by the impressive feats her guild leader had accomplished.
'Will such a person capable of toppling the Reaver Guild accept a mediocre player into the raid?' Veronica decided to play along and not discourage her friend, having believed her guild leader was just joking.
