Chapter 543: Dialing The Police
Chapter 543: Dialing The Police
After searching around the outside perimeter, Xu Feng came to a realization that she wasn't basking in the sun for that Vitamin D and was actually inside.
'She could have said so earlier instead of sending that vague text.' Xu Feng was rendered speechless by Allison's messages.
She said that she was already at Starlight Cafe and that he would easily spot her the moment he arrived. Yet the reality was completely opposite of the expectation.
Not only did he not spot her right away, but he also felt like she was toying with him, probably for the payback of ghosting her.
Of course, that was an exaggeration, but he was honestly somewhat annoyed to take out some of his time for some in-person "meeting".
If possible, they could have totally done the meeting virtually to save everyone's time.
While frustrated internally, Xu Feng's facial expression on the surface remained unchanged.
Just as he was about to head inside to look for Allison, a car suddenly sped up, swerving slightly before coming to a sharp stop right near him. The driver then jumped out, leaving the car parked at an odd angle, and hurried toward the cafe without a second glance.
Xu Feng remained expressionless, but silently, he was displeased by the driver's reckless driving. No matter how much of a rush you were, you should have still paid attention to the road and the people around you.
He turned back and glanced at the car distance between him. If it wasn't for the fact that the reckless driver braked in time, then Xu Feng would have dodged using Phantom Step, followed by apprehending the driver on the spot.
Taking a deep breath, Xu Feng decided to dial the police and said, "Yes, I've called to report a reckless driving case with the license plate ZH 8491. The car is parked just outside of Starlight Cafe on Hushing Avenue."
"Thank you for your reporting, citizen. We will run through the license plate and check on it."
As soon as the dispatcher from the other side received the report, they gave a brief professional response and said police were going to be at the scene in around 5-8 minutes.
Once that was done, Xu Feng thanked the dispatcher before ending the call, fulfilling his duty as a law-abiding citizen.
By the time he put his phone away, he apparently attracted quite a few onlookers.
They were already attracted by the noise made by the reckless driver from earlier, and following Xu Feng's swift decision to dial the police, they were clearly astonished.
"Did this person really call the police on that driver?" One of the women customers of Starlight Cafe muttered in disbelief. Your next journey awaits at My Virtual Library Empire
"They were reckless driving indeed, so what's wrong with them calling the police?" Another one chimed in.
Her companion, however, felt that it was overboard and might bring terrible consequences.
She sighed softly, stood up from her chair, and walked toward Xu Feng. "Sir, you should exit the premises quickly."
Dumbfounded by her behavior, Xu Feng was curious.
"And why should I?" He asked softly.
"I can see that you're quite young so you don't know much about the harsh society." The woman sighed and didn't get angry at his nonchalant behavior.
"Calling the police seemed to be the answer that everyone wants to teach youngsters these days, but the truth can't be any more wrong." She then pointed at the car behind him.
"Do you see that car brand? It's a luxury-kind that only the wealthy can afford. That means the reckless driver earlier had connections and won't be punished by the law. But you who dialed the police would face their wrath once they got off scot-free with a mere warning."
The woman was about to continue further to warn Xu Feng that being a good citizen won't result in anything great, but was quickly halted by her companion as she dragged her away.
Along the dragging though, Xu Feng could hear that other woman said something.
"Enough, he's already in the hot mess by calling. Don't get yourself dragged into trouble and just enjoy our coffee."
The other customers also quickly shifted their attention away from him, clearly not trying to be implicated.
Not a bit surprised by their reaction, Xu Feng knew that the place he lived in was extremely corrupt. Otherwise, they wouldn't have been stuck as a third-graded city and not a first-graded city.
Ignoring them, Xu Feng still put it in mind regarding the woman who kindly warned him earlier. Maybe if he was truly ignorant, her warning would have served as good advice, but naturally, Xu Feng understood the implication.
He was doing this on purpose for one result: getting expelled.
A student involved in another police incident right after Dean Qiao's news?
Who would still dare to let such a student attend and drag Kingston School's name to the dirt once again?
They couldn't afford another scandal!
With that in mind, Xu Feng boldly walked inside the Starlight Cafe, completely unafraid of the repercussions.
"That young man is really courageous."
"The car didn't even hit him but he still dialed the police. That's just asking for trouble."
"The education system has really failed them hard. This is just wasting police time and effort in actual important cases."
As the customers began to gossip behind his back, the kind woman from earlier was frustrated by their cold remarks. "Just look at your people's mindset. How is it a waste of time to report an actual crime? Less significant or not, a crime is a crime."
"Alright, that's enough of your righteousness, Kayla. We came here to sightsee and will be leaving soon."
Kayla breathed deeply and frowned at her companion's words. "But aren't you frustrated, Rachel?"
"That's just how third-graded cities function." Rachel smiled lightly and gently said.
While the two were having that conversation, Xu Feng finally spotted Allison, along with an unexpected coincidence.
'Wow, this couldn't be any better.' He nearly laughed when he spotted the reckless driver from earlier was actively trying to strike up a conversation with Allison, who more or less looked annoyed.
