Chapter 595: Go For It

Shortly after realizing the intricate web of situations regarding the current mission, Xu Feng was more than ready to tackle the insurgents.

Maybe if this had occurred when he was still starting out, then it might have been somewhat troublesome. But the current him was more than enough to solo a bunch of fallen insurgent remnants.

As he headed downstairs, he was quickly greeted by the unfriendly gazes from Thorin.

Thorin's arms were crossed, his gaze equivalent to a hungry predator.

Nevertheless, he didn't exude any pressure like he did earlier and instead snorted. "My daughter said you will help track down those unwelcomed people in the village. Is that true?"

"Why wouldn't it be true?" Annoyed, Fiona pursed her lips, wondering if her father had some hearing problem.

"I know you said it already, but I wanted to hear it from him?" Instantly, Thorin's expression softened up when he turned his attention to her.

"Of course, I trust you, but this youngster is a trickster. He even tricked me earlier that he was a delivery man for your materials." He added, trying to pacify her, and explained he wasn't doubting her.

"But that's not false, father!" Fiona rebuked. "He did deliver me some Shadow Wolves corpses which are quite handy for us."

Speechless, Thorin knew it was always a losing situation to argue with his daughter, so he shook his head and returned his attention back to Xu Fneg.

"Anyway, are you going to fulfill it, or was just speaking nonsense?" Thorin questioned solemnly. "Villager's lives are at stake here so if you're not going to do it, then don't say you will."

In response, Xu Fneg's expression also turned solemn. "Rest assured, Mister Thorin. I'm not the type to delay on important matters."

"I hope you stay true to your words. I can't personally eradicate them because I'm busy arming the villagers with weapons here, and I hope they won't be forced to use them. Our village was discreet and isolated. It's all you outsider's fault that we are slowly being found."

With that being said, Xu Feng calmly exited the Forgefire Blacksmith. What Thorin said was equivalent to an emotional card deployed by the System to ensure players won't just forfeit or ignore the mission.

And to make things worse, NPCs do happen to die if players are late to complete the mission or forget about it entirely. It was an irreversible consequence and one that would be labeled in the player's record unless they completed sufficient missions to revoke them.

'It seems like I'm going to be more occupied.' He thought to himself.

His plate now had too many things to handle— to the point that the auction he planned became somewhat irrelevant. Auction was only another method to earn money, but the things he needed to focus on were growth and strength.

What was the point of having money if you don't have the strength to protect them?

Without hesitation, Xu Feng swiftly messaged Carmen that he would be further delayed and that the guild's operation could just stagnate.

However, the instant his message was sent, he received a video call from Carmen.

Accepting it, Xu Feng was blasted by Carmen's vivid shouting. "Are you really the Guild Leader or did an alien take over your body?"

"What are you talking about? Aliens? As if I would have my body taken over." Confused by her question, Xu Feng wondered what was going on in her mind. All he did was inform her to let the guild slow down a bit, albeit the word "stagnate" was a bit overboard now that he thought about it.

"Why are you suggesting to stagnate the guild's operation?" Carmen puffed up her face and asked in frustration. "Previously, you said a delay would happen and now the delay is getting more delayed. This isn't the Guild Leader I know or are your injuries more serious than reported?"

"It's not like that." Sighing, Xu Feng decided to start from the beginning as to how he came to his decision.

Time quickly went by, and Carmen's agitated mood soon pacified as she calmed down.

"Phew, so you can't manage the guild temporarily because you are occupied in the insurgent remnants and your desire to take the trial for a Hidden Class." Nodding, Carmen continued, "Then why don't you just appoint someone else to manage the guild on your behalf?"

And as if she had come to a realization of her question, she quickly retracted her words.

Indeed, the current Vanguard Guild's operation was solely decided and managed by Xu Feng. There were just no other good candidates for him to choose from.

"Now you see why I said the guild may need to stagnate a bit?" Xu Feng mused. It wasn't that he didn't want to multitask, but the difficulty of utilizing the Origin Pass was far too much of a risk.

And if it weren't for the rewards that Fiona was offering, then he wouldn't even accept the mission to eradicate some remnants.

Just when Xu Feng was about to put the discussion to rest and end the call, Carmen suddenly raised a question.

"Do you trust me, Guild Leader?" She asked solemnly.

Nodding, Carmen pursed her lips and continued, "Since you trust me, then can I promote my friend, Vortex Viper, or Veronica to be precise to take the role of the manager."

"Hmm, but are you not guiding her and helping her level up?"

"Yes, but the truth is, Veronica isn't the grinder type. I mean, she's not the type to continuously kill monsters to gain experience points. She's more suited to be sitting in a chair and managing things."

"I see…" Realization dawned upon Xu Feng as he smiled at her. "If you think she's good, then go for it. You're a Guild Commander with special authority and privilege."
