Reversed Fate in the 70s: Marrying the Factory Director rather than Rough Man

Chapter 135

Chapter 135 : Two Men

“You saved my life back then, and I’ll remember your kindness in my heart.” Xu Haicheng wrote out a check with so many zeros on it that it dazzled. “Take this, it’s enough to buy a house or start a small business.”

“I will not marry you.”

Zhou Taohua was at a loss for what to do. The small hope she had in her heart was ruthlessly shattered. She looked at Fang Peilan and Jiang Li.

“Take it, you deserve it.”

Jiang Li saw that Xu Haicheng wanted to draw a line in the sand, and she felt very sympathetic towards this unfortunate woman.

The object of my love in my youth mistook my benefactor for my own sister and married her. But she had lost her beauty over the years, and the man was no longer the same as before.

Jiang Li advised her to accept the check, saying that real money is more reliable than those fleeting feelings.

Zhou Taohua kept shaking her head, tears in her eyes. She hadn’t come here for the money. Just seeing him was enough.

“Our Xu family owes you a great favor. You should live with me in the old house for a while, take good care of your body, and check your throat.”

Fang Peilan also looked down upon Xu Haicheng’s deliberate use of money to humiliate others. Wasn’t it just for the sake of a man’s pride, using innocent people as a punching bag?

Zhou Taohua wanted to refuse, but Fang Peilan insisted, “Since I brought you out, I must cure your illness. When you are well and find a job, I will let you go.”

Fang Peilan had her own plans. She kept the person under her watch. On the one hand, she wanted to verify whether what Zhou Taohua said was true. On the other hand, she felt responsible for her.

Otherwise, Zhou Hui might come and steal the things from the poor woman.

Da Gen’s operation went smoothly. Chen Jing had been smiling more often in the dormitory these days. She had a goal in life now. She felt different.

After class, a group of girls from dorm 302 gathered together to chat. A few girls who had never been pregnant looked at Jiang Li’s slightly swollen belly with curiosity and asked her many questions.

Chen Jing took some children’s clothes and tiger-head shoes and gave them to Jiang Li, saying, “I made them myself, please don’t dislike them.”

The clothes were made of soft cotton, comfortable and breathable. The tiger-head shoes were sewn stitch by stitch, with an exquisite style. You could tell immediately that a lot of care had gone into them.

“Thank you! I love them.”

“Lizi’s baby is only four months old, and you’re already thinking about making clothes for him. Jing, you’re really thoughtful.”

Chen Jing blushed a little when praised, “I don’t have anything to show for myself. Making something is nothing compared to what Lizi helped me with.”

“I don’t know whether the baby is a boy or a girl, but Li’s baby will definitely be good-looking.”

The girls laughed and giggled, and suddenly a fierce quarrel broke out outside the classroom.

Yu Qianjin was pointing at Sun Yulian’s nose and cursing at her, using a lot of foul language. He even slapped Sun Yulian across the face.

Sun Yulian just covered the spot where she had been hit and cried, pulling on his clothes and begging desperately, but Yu Qianjin pushed her away and left angrily.

The classroom fell silent. Sun Yulian came in crying to get something, then followed the direction Yu Qianjin had gone.

“Yulian, you’re not going to the next class?”

The students in the classroom looked at each other in confusion. Wang Hong said, “Yu Qianjin is really a piece of trash. He hit a female comrade. If this happened in our hometown, we would have smashed his elbow on the spot.”

“You’d better stop talking. Isn’t that how it usually is? They’re both willing to fight and be beaten. If you interfere, Sun Yulian won’t be happy!”

“That’s right!” Wang Hong was loyal but not naive. She had intervened in this kind of matter once and had been scolded by Sun Yulian, so she was too lazy to get involved again.

But this time the commotion seemed particularly big, as Sun Yulian hadn’t returned to the dormitory until after 11 o’clock in the evening.

As the head of dormitory 302, Wang Hong could no longer sit idle. She reported the situation to the department teachers. Except for Jiang Li, who did not live on campus, and Chen Jing, who was at the hospital, the other girls went out to search for Sun Yulian.

Zhu Zhu was the first to find her. Sun Yulian was squatting anxiously outside Yu Qianjin’s house. When she saw her teacher and classmates, she acted like a madwoman.

“Sun Yulian, what are you doing? Is it appropriate to be loitering on the streets instead of returning to the dormitory at this hour? Your teachers and classmates are very worried about you. Don’t you realize that?”

“Come back with me now! Your violation of school discipline is serious this time, and the department will have to punish you!”

Sun Yulian acted as though she didn’t hear the scolding. When the teacher tried to pull her away, she stubbornly refused to leave. During the struggle, Sun Yulian’s body suddenly went limp, and she collapsed.

The next day in class, several girls looked uncomfortable and tense. Jiang Li, noticing their expressions, asked about what had happened the previous night.

Zhu Zhu glanced around to make sure no one else was listening, then whispered to Jiang Li, “Sun Yulian is pregnant, but we don’t know who the father is.”

“The teacher confronted Yu Qianjin, but he flat-out denied any responsibility. He claimed the child wasn’t his and insisted it must belong to that country boy, Chang Jinguang.”

“Can you believe it? Sun Yulian was actually seeing two men at the same time! You really can’t judge someone by their appearance.”

“Even worse, Yu Qianjin publicly said that Sun Yulian was ‘second-hand goods’ and accused her of being married while dating him. He claimed he was the one who suffered a loss.”

“I don’t think Sun Yulian will be able to stay in school after this.”

At the hospital, Sun Yulian looked pale and lifeless. Chang Jinguang stood by her side, his face full of concern.

“Yulian, have some water,” he said gently.

Sun Yulian turned her face away, refusing to drink.

“You can’t keep refusing to eat or drink. What about the baby in your belly?”

Sun Yulian remained silent, tears streaming down her face. Earlier, a teacher from the school had informed her of the punishment: she was expelled.

The rumors about her relationship with Yu Qianjin and her pregnancy had spread throughout the school. Now, all the teachers and students knew she was pregnant out of wedlock and involved with two men.

“Yulian, don’t cry. It hurts me to see you like this. Once you’re discharged, we’ll get our marriage certificate, so no one can call this an affair anymore. Forget about this awful university. As long as we’re together and living well, nothing else matters.”

Chang Jinguang reached out to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear, but she dodged his hand. “What about your wife back in the countryside?” she asked coldly.

The mention of Ding Wenyu sent a chill down Chang Jinguang’s spine. He remembered the fierce, unruly woman and the chaos of her family.

Before leaving for the city, he had made grand promises to Ding Wenyu and her family, swearing loyalty and promising to bring them along once he found a stable job. That was how he had managed to escape their grasp.

But compared to the brash and crude Ding Wenyu, the delicate and tearful Sun Yulian was the one who held his heart. “Yulian, you know that you’re the only one I care about. I’ll never go back to them. Let’s start fresh and live a good life here,” he reassured her.

Sun Yulian was filled with resentment toward the man who had ruined her carefully laid plans. If he hadn’t suddenly shown up and begged for her attention, if it hadn’t been for that one foolish night…

She wouldn’t have gotten pregnant. And Yu Qianjin wouldn’t have found out.
