Chapter 10
Chapter 10
The first performance concluded perfectly. The program team carefully considered that this was the first time these trainees had such close contact with their fans, and they especially allowed a small fan meeting after the performance.
Fortunately, excluding the fans waiting outside, there were only about a hundred fans, even though He Qingqi had more fans, so writing a hundred autographs wasn’t too much. However, when everyone around her called her by the same nickname, her head was buzzing.
After sending off the last fan, He Qingqi sighed, exchanged a glance with Zhuo Zhiwei, and walked over.
“Zhiwei, now my mind is full of the nickname ‘Xi Zai’, oh, and…” He Qingqi suddenly straightened her back, mimicking a fan’s posture and expression: “Sister, I can do it!!”
“Pfft.” Zhuo Zhiwei was amused by her, then called out, “Xi Zai.”
He Qingqi, filled with laughter, opened her eyes wide. “Oh, you want to play, huh? Mutual harm, is it?”
Then she grabbed Zhuo Zhiwei’s arm, leaned to her ear, and kept saying, “Wei Wei Wei Wei…” To avoid her, Zhuo Zhiwei covered her ears.
“Enough, you two; stop showing off.” Tao Jinghan walked over with a look of disdain, pointing at He Qingqi. “You, where’s the promised domineering arrogance, the rebellious nature? Now you’re just a childish ghost!”
She pointed at Zhuo Zhiwei and said, “And you! Where’s the promised cold elegance and indifference? Still a childish ghost!”
“The personas are collapsing into a mess!”
He Qingqi raised an eyebrow, challenging, “You’re one to talk! You’re an all-around idol, a responsible leader, but just a drama queen…
The two were about to continue bickering when the director walked over with a smile, giving He Qingqi a look and beckoning her, “Qingqi, come here for a moment.”
He Qingqi glanced at Zhuo Zhiwei, who looked equally puzzled and walked over half-believably. “Director, do you need something from me?”
The director, with his head down, laughed as he walked with her. “It’s nothing major; you shouldn’t leave yet. Chairman He wants to see you.”
“Chairman He? Do you mean my dad? He’s here? Why didn’t I see him when I was signing autographs?”
The director was taken aback by He Qingqi’s series of questions. After pondering for a moment, he uttered the words, “Chairman He said he’s too conspicuous and wants to meet you alone.”
He Qingqi pressed her lips together, lost in thought.
She didn’t want to see He Dongche, probably due to a kind of homesickness. They hadn’t seen each other for more than half a year, but thinking about it, there was nothing to be afraid of. At this point, He Dongche didn’t know about the absurd things that would happen in the future, so it wouldn’t hurt to see him.
So, she decided to see him.
He Qingqi took a deep breath and said, “Okay, thank you.”
“No need to be so polite.”
He Qingqi informed Zhuo Zhiwei and Tao Jinghan, then sat alone in the audience seats to pass the time.
Starting in the morning, they had rehearsed repeatedly, so once He Qingqi sat down, her eyelids started to fight each other.
She didn’t know how long she had been sitting when the place emptied, and her eyelids finally closed together.
“Xiao Xi?” In a daze, someone shook her shoulder.
He Qingqi frowned and slowly opened her eyes, seeing a much younger He Dongche against the light. Her nose tingled, and she swallowed her sob. “Dad, you wanted to see me?”
Her rare softness melted He Dongche’s heart. His brows furrowed with concern for her exhaustion, but his words turned into, “I told you not to join this show; look at what it’s done to you.”
He Qingqi choked, her lips moving without sound, her earlier feelings of grievance and affection vanishing, replaced by irritation.
She snapped, “I like it, okay?”
He Dongche realized he had misspoken again. Fortunately, He Qingqi didn’t want to argue. “Never mind, why did you want to see me?”
“Nothing… just wanted to see you.”
So he just missed her, right? Why couldn’t this old man, who seemed so hesitant, just say it? He Qingqi felt a bit smug but showed no trace of it; her chin still held high like a proud little peacock. “If it’s nothing, then let’s go. You can take me back to the dorm.”
Thinking it over, she frowned. “Never mind; just walk me downstairs. My fans are probably still outside; I don’t want to be seen.”
He Dongche nodded, walked her downstairs, and reminded her at the last minute, “If you need anything, go to Uncle Tong. Me and your brother are here for you, okay?”
“Uncle Tong?”
“Director Tong.”
He Qingqi nodded, her ears suddenly turning red. She unexpectedly threw herself into He Dongche’s arms, pressing her lips. “Dad, thank you.”
Then she quickly pushed him away, waved shyly at him, and ran outside, returning to the dorm surrounded by fans.
……
Some were happy, while others were sad. While some were thrilled to win the competition, others, particularly those who would be leaving the stage after the rankings announcement a week later, were filled with gloom.
But before the announcement, the contestants had to go through a week of training.
Yan Huan said this was to ensure they gained something from the experience. They shouldn’t simply attend one competition, master two dances, face elimination, and then depart.
After all, many small-company trainees had never received proper training. They didn’t expect to debut without talent or background; they were just here to gain some exposure and learn something.
Even learning for just one week was worth it.
During this period, they often pulled out the Class A contestants to shoot commercials. Everyone was very happy, which strengthened the desire of the contestants in Classes B, C, D, and F to make it into Class A.
So far, two episodes of the program have aired, and they have all gained fans who came to pick them up and drop them off.
He Qingqi, Zhuo Zhiwei, and Tao Jinghan had the best relationship, and the three of them always went to work and returned together.
The more time He Qingqi spent with Zhuo Zhiwei, the more she admired the girl. She perfectly embodied the saying, “Heaven rewards diligence.”
Later, the third episode of “Idol Era” aired, featuring the first announcement of the rankings. The camera zoomed in on her and Zhuo Zhiwei’s close relationship, making it seem like they had been close from the beginning.
Tao Jinghan’s confused and incredulous gaze at the time led to the creation of the first batch of CP (couple pairing) fans for He Qingqi and Zhuo Zhiwei. These fans loved to see them together and would cheer when they saw Zhuo Zhiwei holding her hand.
However, He Qingqi didn’t mind this at all. She even enjoyed being close to Zhuo Zhiwei in front of fans. She wasn’t sure what to call this feeling—perhaps a sense of pride, showcasing the strength of her relationship with this beautiful girl.
She enjoyed being close to Zhuo Zhiwei. After all, who wouldn’t like someone as pure, excellent, and hardworking as Zhuo Zhiwei?
He Qingqi knew that the fans who picked them up and dropped them off would post updates on the super topic. She couldn’t help but think of the person she had loved all her life.
Would she see it? If she saw it, would she feel sad and disappointed?
She shook her head, thinking she was foolish. In her previous life, after ten years of marriage, that person had sent her to Zhuo Zhiwei’s bed without blinking an eye. How could things be different in this life?
A faint sense of melancholy and unwillingness washed away, but the heart-wrenching pain remained. She touched her chest and couldn’t help but smile in relief. The ten years of indifference and the last six months of hurt had finally worn away her love for Fang Xuanyao.
Returning to the dorm at night, He Qingqi was hungry again. She pouted in grievance, wandered around the empty kitchen, and touched her stomach in mournfulness.
Halfway through, He Qingqi suddenly realized something was wrong and quickly put her hand down. She experienced a sense of cognitive decline, nearly forgetting that she had transformed. She was a 30-year-old He Qingqi!
Thinking about it, she continued to rub her stomach in grievance. Pretending was exhausting, so losing intelligence was fine! She was only 19 now, and it didn’t feel out of place at all!
“Hungry?”
“Hungry.”
He Qingqi opened the door and heard Tao Jinghan’s shameless voice: “Remember to bring me a pack of instant noodles too!”
“Call me daddy.”
“Daddy!” Tao Jinghan responded without hesitation.
He Qingqi: “…” Truly shameless.
He Qingqi went down two floors and knocked on Zhang Xiaoyu’s dorm room.
“What’s up, Qingqi?”
He Qingqi felt a bit embarrassed. “I’m hungry.”
This was the fourth time this week she had come to Zhang Xiaoyu for food.
Many people liked to ask the staff to lend them a phone to order takeout, but He Qingqi usually trained late. By the time she got back, many takeout places were closed, and she was very hungry, preferring the simple and direct instant noodles.
Zhang Xiaoyu rolled her eyes dramatically and said, “Wait here.”
Not long after, He Qingqi happily returned to her dorm with two boxes of instant noodles, deciding to find another person to ask for food next time.
Tao Jinghan wasn’t completely idle, either. She boiled water in the kitchen and sat at the pink square table, waiting obediently, like a baby, for He Qingqi.
He Qingqi gave her the same dramatic eye roll that Zhang Xiaoyu had given her.
The two of them skillfully unpacked the noodles, poured in the hot water, and then placed items on top of the noodles to weigh them down.
Soon, the aroma filled the room, and they both swallowed their saliva simultaneously.
He Qingqi couldn’t help but despise herself a bit internally. She found herself drooling over a box of instant noodles!
Just as she was about to dig in, the door lock clicked softly. Zhuo Zhiwei had returned. She had stayed longer in the practice room and didn’t return with He Qingqi and Tao Jinghan.
She sniffed gently. “Are you guys eating instant noodles?”
“Not yet; want a bite?” He Qingqi gestured to her with the noodles.
Zhuo Zhiwei frowned slightly, and just when He Qingqi thought she was going to refuse, she sighed softly.
“I’ll have a bite.”
He Qingqi’s eyebrows arched, and she couldn’t help but laugh. “You look so tragic. I thought you wouldn’t eat it.”
But she was still moving, twirling a large forkful of noodles and blowing on it gently. “Here.”
Twenty-two-year-old Zhuo Zhiwei was far from the person in her memory, no longer cold and distant, but with a more pure heart, more lively, and… cuter.
Zhuo Zhiwei blushed, but she couldn’t resist the temptation of the noodles. She tucked her hair behind her ears and leaned in. “Thank you.”
She ate the noodles carefully, her lips red and her teeth white, in small, dainty bites—a very pleasing sight.
Tao Jinghan clicked her tongue and said, “Qingqi, blink your eyes; they’re practically glued to Zhiwei’s face.”
He Qingqi ignored her and continued to look at Zhuo Zhiwei. “Want some more?”
“No, I’m good.” Zhuo Zhiwei’s ears turned a bit red.
Only then did He Qingqi hold her noodles, giving Tao Jinghan a look. “If you could look like Zhiwei, I’d look at you too.”
“Hey? You beauty-snob!”
He Qingqi, slurping a mouthful of noodles, shook her head slightly. “So what?”
