Chapter 45
Chapter 45
Her lover went out to meet an old flame, so Zhuo Zhiwei naturally didn’t feel like eating. She listlessly cooked a bowl of instant noodles and was about to eat when she heard the sound of the door lock turning.
A trace of joy involuntarily appeared on her face.
“Zhiwei!” The person looked at Zhuo Zhiwei in surprise. After changing into slippers, they quickly walked over and took the bowl of noodles from her.
Frowning, with a hint of reproach in their eyes, they asked, “Why are you eating instant noodles?”
Zhuo Zhiwei pressed her lips together, suppressing the bitterness and grievances in her heart, and answered honestly, “I’m not in the mood.”
“What’s wrong?” He Qingqi asked with concern.
After thinking for a moment, their eyes brightened involuntarily. “Are you worried about me?”
Without waiting for Zhuo Zhiwei to answer, they continued, “Don’t worry, I specifically asked Mingrui to go with me and also had Zhaonian on standby. Everything was thoroughly prepared. It’s not like I went alone.”
Hearing that they treated the old flame like a formidable enemy, Zhuo Zhiwei’s mood improved significantly. A fleeting look of indulgence appeared in her eyes. She nodded and softly said, “I know.”
Her cold voice was soft and full of trust, which instantly satisfied He Qingqi, who looked at Zhuo Zhiwei’s obedient, smiling eyes.
Standing at the door, Gu Mingrui watched the two, feeling like a third wheel. He touched his nose and cleared his throat.
The two turned to look at him in surprise, realizing they had forgotten about him.
Gu Mingrui muttered to himself.
“Oh, right.” He Qingqi suddenly remembered. “We should thank Mingrui for today. I invited him up to sit.”
“Here’s the meal I brought for you. Eat it while it’s hot.”
Gu Mingrui, trying to be polite, said, “Actually, it’s quite nice here.”
He Qingqi nodded absentmindedly and said, “Yes, it is.”
The earlier setbacks still weighed on her.
Gu Mingrui looked at her worriedly and asked, “What are you going to do next?”
He Qingqi stole a glance at Zhuo Zhiwei, then grabbed Gu Mingrui and pushed him into the master bedroom, carefully closing the door.
Instantly, she collapsed onto the bed, running her fingers through her hair repeatedly.
“I don’t know. My mind is a mess.”
She came to the realization that the process of divorce could be more challenging than she had initially anticipated.
That feeling of helplessness filled her entire being.
What did she want to do?
He Qingqi didn’t know.
Surely she hadn’t suddenly realized she liked herself.
“Life is so hard!” she suddenly shouted.
Then she sat up abruptly, staring intently at Gu Mingrui.
Gu Mingrui was the most reliable among them, and he had money!
Feeling uneasy under her gaze, Gu Mingrui took a step back. “What are you doing? I perform but don’t sell myself.”
He Qingqi rolled her eyes at him, full of disdain. “As if I’d be interested in someone like you. I’d rather have Xuxu.”
“Delicate and soft?” Gu Mingrui asked tentatively.
Hearing this, He Qingqi suddenly perked up and said, “What have you tried?”
“Get out!”
“Brother Rui, please,” He Qingqi whined, full of complaints. “Help me figure out a way.”
She called him Brother Rui when she needed something and Mingrui when she didn’t. Gu Mingrui, accustomed to this, rolled his eyes dramatically.
“What can I do?” Gu Mingrui spread his hands and asked, “Who told you to get a marriage license without discussing it with us?”
“I was just caught up in the moment. You know how much I liked her back then. When she suggested it, I felt like I had won the lottery. No, winning the lottery wouldn’t have made me that happy.”
“And then you got married,” He Qingqi said innocently.
“Ugh!” He Qingqi messed up her hair in frustration. “Forget it! Doesn’t she want to rebuild the Fang family? I have money! I’ll give it all to her! If it’s not enough, I’ll borrow money for her!”
“A thousand gold coins can’t buy my freedom!”
Gu Mingrui looked gratified. “You should have done this sooner.”
Like a father advising his child, he said, “We should be honest and serious in our relationships.”
He Qingqi didn’t catch the implication and looked at him oddly. “When haven’t I been serious about relationships?”
Gu Mingrui shrugged, letting her deceive herself if she wanted to.
“Alright,” Gu Mingrui said, opening the door. “Qingqi, take care of it yourself. I’ll transfer all the liquid funds I have to you. If you need anything, let me know. I’m leaving now.”
He Qingqi collapsed back onto the bed, exhausted. “Go on, go on.”
“Thanks a lot. When I make a movie, I’ll let you invest.”
Still calling herself ‘sister.’
Gu Mingrui rolled his eyes at her, thinking about how she had just been calling him Brother Rui.
Moreover, investing in her movie sounded like he was getting the short end of the stick.
Ignoring her, Gu Mingrui left. Seeing Zhuo Zhiwei, he said, “Zhiwei, I’m leaving.”
“Okay, goodbye.”
The room was quiet again, with only He Qingqi and Zhuo Zhiwei left.
The air gradually became still, and He Qingqi dozed off in a daze.
When she woke up, it was already five in the afternoon.
The curtains were tightly drawn. He Qingqi looked toward the door, smiling.
She stretched lazily and walked out of the room.
Zhuo Zhiwei saw a drowsy lioness with clear, innocent eyes, like a lost fawn, showing a glimpse of a slender but seemingly strong waist.
The three months of occasional workouts had made He Qingqi’s abs more defined, looking quite touchable.
Seeing the sexy little bones moving under the skin, Zhuo Zhiwei’s eyes darkened. She turned away, her ears becoming red.
“You’re awake.” Her voice was particularly cold.
He Qingqi, momentarily puzzled, let out an “ah.”
Zhuo Zhiwei pressed her lips together and asked, “Do you want to eat?”
Still groggy, He Qingqi hadn’t had time to respond when she heard the hesitant address, “Qingqi.”
Qingqi…
Instantly, it felt like fireworks had exploded in her head.
Now fully awake, He Qingqi was even more bewildered than before. Her heart raced as if it were about to burst out of her throat.
Blinking dumbly, she uttered a single syllable, “Eat.”
Zhuo Zhiwei quietly pressed her lips together, her eyes glancing to the side, a smile sneaking onto her face.
At the dining table, Zhuo Zhiwei wisely didn’t ask about the day’s events. In fact, she was too embarrassed to think straight.
She had long wanted to call He Qingqi that, ever since she first heard Fang Xuanyao use the name.
He Qingqi’s reaction was good, making her feel like she was closer to her goal.
However, the clueless one didn’t notice the shy beauty before her and brought up an awkward topic.
“Why did you suddenly call me that?” The clueless one smiled and said, “It caught me off guard.”
For a moment, it felt like her heart had stopped.
After a while, Zhuo Zhiwei forced herself to speak normally: “Is it not okay?”
“No,” He Qingqi realized, realizing what she had said was silly: “Call me whatever you like.”
Zhuo Zhiwei lowered her eyes, pausing with her chopsticks. “I saw your friends calling you that.”
So, she was jealous? Like when she first met Gu Mingrui, Chai Xu jumped up and down.
It turned out that the usually cool Zhuo Zhiwei also had such thoughts.
He Qingqi blinked, a smile spreading on her lips. “Then I should call you something different.”
Zhuo Zhiwei pressed her lips together, nodded slightly, and said, “Okay.”
“Weiwei?” He Qingqi tried.
Zhuo Zhiwei’s heart pounded, looking up with amusement, remembering her past antics, indulgence twinkling in her eyes. “Shouldn’t you call me sister?”
He Qingqi froze, her face turning red with anger.
She was nearly thirty. Despite having been reborn, Zhuo Zhiwei had taken advantage of her.
After a moment, she obediently called, “Sister.”
The little lion’s “sister” was sweet and a bit childish, like a naive child.
Now it was Zhuo Zhiwei’s turn to be stunned.
He Qingqi saw her dazed expression and felt triumphant. She smiled innocently, her eyes forming crescents. “Didn’t I say before that I’d be your family?”
“Your sister doesn’t like you; she doesn’t treat you as a sister, but I like you. I’ll treat you like a real… sister.”
Zhuo Zhiwei smiled slightly, not objecting to the term “sister,” giving He Qingqi a meaningful look.
She was indeed a sister, but not a real one.
…
At night, He Qingqi didn’t sleep in the same bed as Zhuo Zhiwei. Recently, Chai Xu and the others’ teasing had left a mark on her, coupled with her subconscious feelings, making her feel she couldn’t continue. She obediently slept in the master bedroom.
Zhuo Zhiwei didn’t stop her or suggest sleeping together again. Though a bit disappointed, she felt more joy.
This showed that the little lion had started to take her seriously, acknowledging that she liked girls and that she was a girl.
She was already avoiding suspicion.
He Qingqi, back in the master bedroom, leaned against the headboard, full of worry, staring blankly at her phone.
Though she appeared decisive, she was often soft-hearted and sometimes a bit timid.
But recalling her conversation with Gu Mingrui, she steeled herself and began drafting a message.
Xuanyao, I meant what I said earlier. Please take this seriously. Dragging this out isn’t good for anyone. You don’t love me, and I’ve let go. It’s not like we have to be together. Isn’t it better this way? We can go our separate ways. Didn’t you always hate me for pestering you? You don’t have to worry about me causing trouble.
The last line implied that if Fang Xuanyao was also reborn, she would understand. If not, it could be taken as reassurance.
He Qingqi continued typing:
I understand that you want to rebuild the Fang family. A few days ago, my dad transferred a building to me, and combined with my mom’s inheritance, I can piece together more. I’ll give it all to you, or we can arrange installment payments. Just let me go, okay?
She almost explicitly told Fang Xuanyao that she understood her intentions and wanted an immediate divorce. It was a straightforward message.
Feeling it was too blunt, He Qingqi hesitated and posted it in their group chat.
Qingqi: Everyone, help me see if there are any problems.
Xu: No problem!
Rui: Thumbs up!
Nian: Go for it, Qingqi!
Yuan: I should have done this sooner!
Xu: Send it, Sister Qing! I believe in you!
He Qingqi pressed her lips together, still hesitant but decided to trust her friends. But when she opened her chat with Fang Xuanyao, she chickened out.
Switching back.
Qingqi: I think I need to revise it.
Xu: What’s there to revise?
Qingqi: If I anger her, what if she blackens my name online? Xu, you know better than anyone that idol dating is taboo, let alone being married!
Rui: But you can’t avoid divorce. Considering her behavior today, do you think using soft methods will work?
Xu: Yeah, if she keeps refusing, you’ll eventually have to tear each other apart, and it’ll come out. Either wait until you successfully transition away from idol status, or can you afford to wait? Are you not starting your second spring?
He Qingqi had been nodding in agreement until the last sentence made her speechless. How worried was Xu about her not finding a partner? Everything seemed to lead to that.
Xu: Since you can’t wait, listen to me. Sooner is better than later.
Qingqi: I’m doing it.
He Qingqi closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and sent the message all at once. After a moment, she added another line.
He Qingqi: I hope you can decide within the next two days. If you’re still unsure, I’ll be out of the city. I’ll have Zhaonian send you the divorce agreement. Hopefully, the next time we meet, it will be at the civil affairs bureau to finalize the divorce.
He Qingqi: I wish you all the best.
On the other end, Fang Xuanyao had just finished her bath. Reading the message, her movements slowed, and the towel dropped to the floor.
She remained silent for a long time.
She’s almost ready to crush her phone.
She knew her prediction had come true.
That person, like her, was ten years into the future.
Perhaps that person had already guessed.
Where did she come from?
Fang Xuanyao looked mournfully out the window.
She remembered the scene when He Qingzhou visited her.
The man’s solemn expression, eyes filled with deep sorrow, spoke each word with gritted teeth.
Fang Xuanyao, I curse you.
To live in pain forever.
Of all the people she had known for so many years, no one understood He Qingzhou’s desires more than Fang Xuanyao.
All he wanted was the forgiveness of He Qingqi and to hear her call him “brother.”
She had destroyed his hopes with her own hands, and now she would use herself as atonement.
Fang Xuanyao looked sadly out the window.
You got what you wanted.
