Chapter 48
Chapter 48
“Journey of Miracles” was not a comfortable show. Although the first day allowed the girls to enjoy themselves, the production team quickly revealed their true nature.
The task for the second day was to go skydiving.
When He Qingqi received the task card and saw those two words, she felt dizzy. She had never even ridden a pirate ship before.
Her thin lips moved, and she softly muttered, “Oh my god.”
Tao Jinghan looked at her with a hint of schadenfreude, taken aback. “Caught you.”
“The teenage idol swore, huh?”
Imitating He Qingqi’s earlier expression, she faced the camera and said, “Cut that out, Director Tong.”
He Qingqi, realizing the situation, looked up at her and raised an eyebrow.
Then, an idea struck her, and she performed an impromptu dance coolly: “Oh my god, perseverance burns brightly, oh my god, fighting spirit roars to the sky, oh oh oh…”
“What are you looking at? Haven’t you heard of ‘Exclamation Point’?”
Tao Jinghan was speechless, giving her a thumbs-up, “You’re something.”
The little lion held her head high, feeling proud.
But that pride didn’t last long.
Even with a coach jumping alongside them, the seven girls were still terrified.
He Qingqi, her face drained of color, was trembling with fear. She couldn’t even speak on the plane. She wanted to back out, but as a lion with a strong sense of territory, pride was crucial.
She jumped, gritting her teeth and stomping her foot.
In mid-air, she felt as if her heart was about to fly out of her mouth.
Weightlessness, lack of oxygen.
Fear.
The mighty little lion instantly turned into a crying kitten, clutching the coach tightly. Tears filled her eyes at several thousand meters in the air.
She suddenly admired those who could scream in the sky; her throat felt like it was being strangled.
Upon landing, she lay on the ground in a mess, blinking slowly and looking extremely pitiful.
Her heart seemed to stop, then started beating twice as fast. He Qingqi sat up, swallowed, and suddenly felt a surge of happiness, pushing back her tears.
Zhuo Zhiwei, worried, walked over to her.
He Qingqi regained her composure, paused, and walked weakly to Zhuo Zhiwei.
She tried to remain strong despite being completely terrified and her teeth chattering.
“Zhiwei, are you okay?” Her voice slowed, her tone deepened, and her eyes darkened, exuding an unusual maturity, like the Lion King.
If Zhuo Zhiwei hadn’t noticed her slightly trembling arm, she might have believed her.
Zhuo Zhiwei, who had arrived a while ago and was somewhat calm, held onto the little lion’s arm.
When she saw the little lion’s proud demeanor, she couldn’t help but smile slightly, her eyes rippling with emotion.
“I’m fine,” she said.
For some reason, He Qingqi could no longer keep up her act and suddenly became teary-eyed.
Pouting, she leaned most of her weight on Zhuo Zhiwei’s arm, looking aggrieved. “But I’m not okay.”
“It scared me to death, boohoo.”
The turnaround was quick.
Tao Jinghan, who was also rushing over with good intentions, twitched her mouth, turned around, and left without hesitation.
Zhuo Zhiwei looked at He Qingqi, who was acting coquettishly. Normally, she would be overjoyed, but seeing the little lion looking so dejected, she felt only heartache.
She tightly grasped He Qingqi’s waist, letting her lean on her, and they supported each other as they rejoined the others.
The other girls weren’t in much better shape, except for Qiu Ming, who seemed enthusiastic and even jumped again.
Who would have thought the seemingly honest Qiu Ming had such a wild heart?
It was truly terrifying.
As He Qingqi sat on the ground, watching her, she thought.
After a while, He Qingqi finally recovered her energy and once again threatened the camera, “Tong Ningze! Just you wait!”
Zhuo Zhiwei smiled, gently pinching her arm and finding the energetic little lion even more adorable.
She ruffled her hair.
The little lion no longer resisted, lowered her head, and even gave a soft smile.
Cute.
She wondered if other group variety shows were this exhausting. After a few days, He Qingqi began to feel as though she was under constant torture. She began by skydiving, proceeded to surf on the beach, and complied with the production team’s numerous peculiar demands.
Fortunately, one’s destination was an equestrian center. He Qingqi, who is familiar with horseback riding, mounted a horse and felt slightly relieved.
And so, five days passed. If they could get through the last two days, they could go home.
At this moment, the production team had one-third of their funds left, enough to cover the final two days.
Hearing this news, He Qingqi couldn’t help but be surprised, widening her eyes and giving a thumbs-up to the camera. “Director Tong, you have a conscience!”
Tong Ningze on the other side of the camera gave a mysterious smile, saying nothing.
For some reason, He Qingqi suddenly had a terrible feeling.
At six in the morning on the sixth day, the doorbell rang loudly.
“Who’s that!” “Don’t you know disturbing someone’s sleep deserves a beating?” “Captain!”
Three rooms simultaneously groaned in despair.
In the only quiet room.
He Qingqi, not fully awake, frowned and closed her eyes, feeling annoyed.
She just wanted to find a place without noise to hide.
First, she buried herself under the covers, then groggily snuggled into a soft embrace.
It was a familiar embrace, with a familiar, faint scent of super cedar.
She sniffed.
He Qingqi, enjoying it with half-open eyes, rubbed absently.
So soft.
Soft?
Soft!
Instantly, she opened her eyes wide, fully awake. Her face flushed, and she felt like her breathing had stopped.
He Qingqi subtly moved her body to a safe area, inching away from the two soft little things.
She exhaled a breath of relief as her heart began to pound once more, seemingly ready to burst from her chest.
This state reminded He Qingqi of her feelings during the skydive a few days ago—nervous, weightless, and heart-stopping.
And trembling hands.
He Qingqi couldn’t stay any longer. Taking advantage of Zhuo Zhiwei, though unintentional, was still her doing. Moreover, with her heart racing so fast, wouldn’t it wake Zhuo Zhiwei?
Holding her breath, He Qingqi quietly put on her slippers, walked to the door, and with a trembling right hand, managed to open it and slip out.
Out of sight, He Qingqi’s heart gradually calmed. Away from the tense environment, she didn’t feel relieved. Instead, her heart hung higher, feeling inexplicably lost.
What she hadn’t considered earlier now loomed large in her mind.
That shy, breathless, heart-pounding feeling—she seemed to have experienced it before.
He Qingqi paused, frowning slightly, and touched her chest.
A small, light brown mole at the corner of her eye seemed to flash as she pursed her lips, somewhat incredulous.
Meanwhile, on the bed, Zhuo Zhiwei slowly opened her eyes, fully awake.
A blush spread from her cheeks to her ears and neck; even the small, soft hairs on the back of her neck seemed to turn pink.
Biting her lip, she leaned against the headboard, clutching her sleeping clothes tightly, her nails turning white.
She didn’t know how much strength it took to stop herself from hugging He Qingqi.
Zhuo Zhiwei looked toward the door; her breathing quickened, and then she calmed down. She touched her chest, feeling the faint warmth of a hidden bud.
Realizing what she was doing, Zhuo Zhiwei gasped, her cool eyes widening in panic. She quickly withdrew her hand.
Her heart pounded non-stop.
Her warmth was present.
Zhuo Zhiwei looked away, concealing her shyness and barely noticeable joy.
The size should be satisfactory.
Realizing her thoughts, she shook her head vigorously.
Zhuo Zhiwei felt utterly embarrassed!
…
After a brief pause, the doorbell continued to ring persistently. He Qingqi, seeing this as her last chance for escape, felt relieved and walked towards the door.
She ran into Tao Jinghan, who was coming downstairs.
Tao Jinghan yawned and frowned. “Awake already?”
He Qingqi tried to stay calm. “How could I sleep with that noise?”
“Who is it anyway? Didn’t the director give you any hints?”
Tao Jinghan shook her head. “Nope, let’s go check it out.”
She patted He Qingqi’s shoulder in consolation.
He Qingqi rolled her eyes and glanced at the camera.
The moment she opened the door,.
“Surprise!”
Six girls jumped to the door simultaneously.
There was no welcome; only He Qingqi and Tao Jinghan looked dumbfounded and petrified.
He Qingqi visualized a group of crows soaring above her head, emitting loud cawing sounds.
Moments later.
He and Tao say in unison, “Oh my god!”
They suddenly understood the director’s devious intentions.
Pei Shuyi and Bian Suitong, who knew a bit of Chinese: “???”
Bian Suitong looked puzzled. “Are you not happy we came, Jinghan?”
“Yeah, is Jinghan not happy?”
The other four girls chattered in Korean, leaving He Qingqi confused.
“And…” Pei Shuyi tilted her head, her big eyes puzzled, as she looked at Tao Jinghan, pure, clear, and innocent.
“What’s ‘oh my god’ mean?”
“Why didn’t you teach me that before, Jinghan?”
Bian Suitong twitched, looking at Tao Jinghan, as if to say, “You got yourself into this; solve it.”
Tao Jinghan awkwardly touched her nose, then, with a flash of inspiration, explained calmly, “It’s a song lyric.”
She signaled to He Qingqi, “Qingqi.”
He Qingqi, though not in the mood, sang “Exclamation Point” as requested.
Pei Shuyi suddenly understood.
Bian Suitong’s eyes widened. If you looked closely at her emotions, there was admiration.
…
Suddenly appearing from the shadows, Tong Ningze coughed lightly. “There’s an old saying: one of the four great joys in life is meeting an old friend in a distant land.”
“Since we have the fortune to meet the captain’s old friends here, why don’t wonders help the captain entertain them?”
Clearly scripted, He Qingqi’s forehead showed a few black lines: “I disagree. The captain’s old friends aren’t our old friends.”
Tong Ningze continued, “So for the last two days, you’ll spend time with W.S. Their daily expenses will also be covered by wonders.”
He Qingqi: “I disagree. Let the captain go with them. Then W.S. won’t count as one of our old friends.”
Tao Jinghan glared at her, then secretly kicked her.
He Qingqi glared back, “Why? The captain should be self-sacrificing. If you go with them, everyone will be happy!”
“Get lost!” Tao Jinghan waved impatiently, “Go back to sleep; seeing you makes me angry!”
Her gaze fell on He Qingqi’s perky butt, and she felt an itch, glancing behind to ensure Zhuo Zhiwei hadn’t followed.
With a joyful heart, she swiftly kicked He Qingqi’s butt.
He Qingqi rubbed her buttocks in annoyance and started fighting with her.
After a commotion, He Qingqi knew she couldn’t delay anymore. “Alright, it’s decided then!”
Yawning, she waved her hand and headed back to her room. “I hope the captain is gone when I wake up.”
Tao Jinghan said expressionlessly, “He Qingqi, come here; I won’t kill you.”
He Qingqi cast a disdainful glance back.
But as she turned, she lowered her eyes, her long hair covering her emotions, looking confused like a little deer.
She wanted to go back but didn’t dare.
