Running Over The Head Of My Ex [Rebirth]

Chapter 7

Chapter 7

Although she had experienced it previously, He Qingqi was truly feeling the responsibility of being a team leader for the first time.

The boy group dance was not particularly friendly towards the girls. With the exception of He Qingqi and Zhang Xiaoyu, the other five members were fatigued. Fortunately, the people who chose this song had prepared themselves mentally and were considered the more confident dancers in the class.

However, since He Qingqi hadn’t touched dancing for seven years, her body might respond, but her mind couldn’t keep up, and she couldn’t help the members refine their moves.

After some consideration, she went to ask for advice from two experts in their dorm.

Experts are experts; they effortlessly handle someone else’s song.

Tao Jinghan clicked her tongue and said, “Qingqi, you can’t just be good with words and not with dancing.”

She had previously seen He Qingqi’s professional skills and was quite impressed. During the initial rating, He Qingqi’s dancing was also good, so Tao Jinghan considered her a strong competitor, second only to Zhuo Zhiwei. She didn’t anticipate that He Qingqi would find herself in this situation.

In frustration, He Qingqi rubbed her hair. “It’s not that I can’t dance. I can dance at normal speed, but I don’t know how I’m doing it. I can’t slow it down for the team to see the details.”

“Qingqi, I understand what you’re thinking now.” Tao Jinghan pretended to be disappointed, turned towards He Qingqi, and said arrogantly, “Everyone here is useless. Such simple moves, and they need me to slow it down.”

He Qingqi: “…”

After interacting for less than two weeks, He Qingqi realized that her impression of Tao Jinghan from her past life was all wrong. The image of an all-round idol and responsible leader was a facade. Once you got to know her, she was just a drama queen!

But to be honest, this lively and realistic Tao Jinghan was much more likeable than the perfect, distant image from her past life.

He Qingqi rolled her eyes and said bluntly, “Can you do it or not? If not, we’ll go find Zhiwei.” She pretended to turn and leave.

He Qingqi had divided the six members into three groups, with two under Tao Jinghan, two under Zhuo Zhiwei, and the last two, Zhang Xiaoyu and Qiu Ming, practicing the formation directly.

“Hey! Come back!” Tao Jinghan grabbed her and glared, “When did I say I couldn’t do it? Watch this; I’ll show you how it’s done!”

On the other side, Zhuo Zhiwei had just arrived and heard the commotion. Her usually calm face flashed a faint smile, her beautiful eyes arching as she said, “Let’s start.”

After Tao Jinghan helped the members with their dance moves, He Qingqi cheerfully ran over to Zhuo Zhiwei with two bottles of water, opened one, and handed it over with a grin. “Zhiwei, drink some water.”

Zhuo Zhiwei looked at her with a smile, trying to hold back her laughter, and nodded seriously. “Good service attitude; keep it up.”

“Of course, you’re like my big sister now. If you tell me to go east, I won’t go west. If you tell me to hit Jinghan, I definitely won’t hit Xiaoyu.”

Tao Jinghan was dissatisfied. “Hey, Qingqi, are you planning to hit me? Are you burning bridges?”

He Qingqi didn’t mind. “Who told you to be so fast?”

Zhuo Zhiwei looked at the two troublemakers and couldn’t help but laugh. She looked at He Qingqi’s smooth hair and felt a sudden urge. Raising her arm slightly, she hesitated for a moment, opening and closing her fist.

He Qingqi noticed and immediately understood. She bent down slightly, smiling like an obedient puppy. “If you want to pet, go ahead, Zhiwei. We’re close; there’s no need to be polite.”

Tao Jinghan: “…” What relationship? The pretty one and the fangirl.

They had all met just a day ago, but Zhiwei was indeed better-looking. Hmph.

So, Zhuo Zhiwei enjoyed petting her hair.

He Qingqi’s team, with the help of Zhuo Zhiwei and Tao Jinghan, made good progress despite some stumbling. He Qingqi’s sense of dance gradually returned, and everything moved in a positive direction.

“Ning Zhao, bend your waist more. The angle isn’t right. What did Jinghan tell you before?”

“Chuang, you’re out of position. Look at the mirror, not your feet. If you bump into Xiaoyu on stage, it’ll be a performance disaster!”

“Qiu Ming! Memorize the lyrics properly! How many times do I have to tell you? Memorize the lyrics! It’s just a few English lines; is it that hard?!”

Qiu Ming stopped and wailed, “Qingqi, my brain isn’t good!”

Over the past few days, He Qingqi felt like she had transformed into a strict high school dean, making Qiu Ming and the others shiver whenever they saw her.

However, none of them desired elimination. Despite their complaints, they all gritted their teeth and persevered. Towards the end, they often practiced until two or three in the morning.

Even if someone was too tired, they wouldn’t go back to the dorm to sleep. They would persist until He Qingqi called it a day, and then they all went back together, truly embodying team spirit.

However, this high-intensity training made them feel lightheaded.

But the results were significant, with all seven showing remarkable improvement, including He Qingqi as team leader.

Zhang Xiaoyu lay on the ground, panting. “You have no idea how different you are now from when you first arrived.”

He Qingqi knew it too and lay down beside her. When she first arrived, she just wanted to get by, but now it was different. She wanted to show her fans a better version of herself and, as Tao Jinghan had said, shoulder the responsibility of being a leader.

She had worried about not being able to do it, but now she saw that her worries were unnecessary. Her teammates and roommates had provided her with tremendous support.

The audience finally learned the theme song rating for the previous episode as the performance date drew near.

He Dongche and his family of four sat in front of the TV on time. Although He Dongche had witnessed the edited version firsthand, he still felt that watching it with the audience and seeing the reactions was the only way to fully enjoy it.

They turned on the TV and immediately saw their daughter sitting quietly with her legs crossed. Even among 98 beautiful girls, their daughter still stood out.

He Qingqi failed to remember the lyrics, which resulted in a limited number of shots during the theme song segment. They only saw her dance during the prelude. She had tied a jacket around her shorts, adding a touch of sharpness and casual elegance to her precise and fluid dance moves, which was quite pleasing to the eye.

However, the camera soon switched to other contestants.

He Dongche frowned. He only wanted to see his daughter.

Fans went crazy too. One moment they were:

“Ah, I’m dying. Qingqi is both cute and cool. She is truly the visual queen of the ‘Idol Era’.”

“Qingqi! Mama loves you!”

The next moment, the tone shifted dramatically. Among Zhuo Zhiwei’s fans, who adored her for her looks, personality, and abilities, there were also angry voices.

“The production team is outrageous! In the most recent episode, they orchestrated a plot against my idol. Despite her superior dancing skills, they managed to defeat her in a battle with Zhuo Zhiwei, one of the top two singers. Now they’re not giving her any screen time!”

“The production team should be fair. Are they trying to use our Qingqi as a scapegoat?”

As He Qingqi’s fans flooded the screen with complaints, others got upset.

“Do He Qingqi’s fans have a persecution complex? He Qingqi’s lack of screen time implies that people are scapegoating her.

“There are 98 contestants in the show. Why should she get screen time? You say she performed well, but Zhuo Zhiwei and Tao Jinghan performed even better. By your logic, they should get all the screen time.”

The production team appeared to respond to the fans’ demands by switching the camera to He Qingqi, who was on the verge of forgetting her lyrics, while the argument over the bullet comments continued. As soon as the accompaniment stopped, she collapsed to the ground in despair.

The camera then cuts to the five mentors.

“It’s a pity she forgot the lyrics.”

“She’s usually quite good.”

“B grade…”

Fans were instantly silent, and sporadic sarcastic comments prevailed.

“He Qingqi’s fans, stop complaining. Can’t you see? The production team is there for you. Given her abilities, giving her screen time would only hurt her.”

“Some people lack talent. No matter how much you hype them, they still lack talent. I don’t understand where her fans get their confidence from.”

After a while, the fans realized what was happening and quickly tried to make amends.

First, they expressed regret and then formed groups to sincerely thank the five mentors and the production team on their official blogs. They apologized on behalf of their idol for not meeting the mentors’ expectations, behaving as if they hadn’t just been angrily cursing the production team. Then they returned to He Qingqi’s fan club and focused on her, showering her with encouragement and endless compliments.

That night, the hashtag #HeQingqiUnderperformed trended in the top ten.

Die-hard fans of Tao Jinghan, Zhuo Zhiwei, and other “Idol Era” contestants, as well as some people who dislike He Qingqi’s personality, mocked the fans’ inconsistent behavior.

But He Qingqi’s fans were numerous, united, and wealthy. They quickly dominated the top comments, turning the topic into a celebration of He Qingqi’s stage performance, inadvertently attracting many new fans.

After the theme song rating, the show aired interviews with several contestants in the waiting room.

“I was scared to death.” This came from a D-rank contestant.

“Hey, you know what? Seriously, my mind went blank the moment I got on stage!” said an A-rank contestant.

“Some contestants prepared well in private, like Qingqi. She taught many people in our class, including me.” Qiu Ming, who was demoted to C-rank, said, “I’ve never been very bright.”

The staff member seemed to say something, and Qiu Ming laughed. “I’m serious; my brain isn’t that good. I’ve been bad at math since I was little, and I used to drive my classmates crazy when they tried to help me.”

“When Qingqi was helping me practice dance, I was worried I was taking up her time. I told her to go practice herself, but she rolled her eyes and said she had an excellent memory and had already memorized everything. But…”

Qiu Ming looked a bit downcast. “I feel like I let her down.”

Then the show replayed He Qingqi’s despairing scene of crouching and holding her head five times in a row.

In the bulletin comments:

“This girl is amazing, in the most ridiculous way. Others pretend to be geniuses; she goes for the clueless persona.”

“Ha ha ha ha, memory master He Qingqi, brainless Qiu Xiaoming. I’m a fan now.”

“Damn, official mockery is the most deadly. I suddenly don’t feel bad for Qingqi; instead, I want to laugh. Am I a fake fan?”

“I am already able to envision it: Qingqi, all composed and dominant, proclaiming, ‘Woman, you have my attention’ while holding a “you mortals are beneath me” expression; she would then say, ‘I have a great memory’—only to forget everything. Ha ha ha ha.”
