Running Over The Head Of My Ex [Rebirth]

Chapter 70

Chapter 70

As Zhuo Zhiwei walked into the house, He Qingqi unconsciously licked her lips, her thumb and index finger rubbing together absently.

It was as if she could still feel the warmth on her throat from nearly an hour ago.

She couldn’t help but laugh softly.

If one day she could kiss that spot…

She would definitely extend her tongue, circle it around, and then take it all in.

Her eyes sparkled with a heated smile, and she felt a bit shy, her head lowering with a quiet chuckle.

Suddenly, a thought crossed her mind—what was Zhiwei going back for? The party wasn’t over yet, was it?

Chai Xu came over, nudging her with his elbow, his deep voice teasing by her ear: “Watch yourself.”

He glanced at the nearby camera.

He Qingqi raised an eyebrow, glancing at him. Sure enough, he had that sly, mischievous look on his face, though she pretended not to care, her eyes betraying her amusement.

Chai Xu continued, “Even Teacher Qi has noticed.”

He Qingqi arched a brow, whispering with a grin, “Weren’t you just calling him ‘Grandpa’ a moment ago?”

Chai Xu let out a hiss, his eyes widening. “That was for the show’s effect!”

He Qingqi shrugged, recalling the earlier scene as her eyes narrowed slightly. She shot him a side-eye. “Try not to mess with me in the future!”

Chai Xu looked at her in disbelief, protesting his innocence. “How could I ever mess with you? Your…”

His voice cut off abruptly as he realized he’d raised his voice. Lin Dao was already casting a curious glance their way.

Chai Xu politely nodded and smiled at her, then frowned, lowering his voice again.

“Your Zhiwei has been staring at me the entire time, as if I’ve done something to you. Her gaze, man.” He clicked his tongue twice. “It’s so hot today, but her look still sent shivers down my spine.”

It couldn’t be that dramatic. He Qingqi glanced at him with a half-amused, half-annoyed look.

Still…

She probed, “Zhiwei really gave you the chills?”

“Why would I lie?” ChaiXu felt insulted.

“We’ve known each other forever—when have I ever pulled any moves on you? I didn’t even dare to touch you earlier; I was that scared!”

“And now you accuse me of taking advantage of you?”

He Qingqi nodded thoughtfully, then cast him a sidelong glance. “Is that what I said?”

She stepped closer, hooking her arm around Chai Xu’s shoulder with a playful, roguish air. “Tell me, what’s this ‘future brother’ nonsense?”

Chai Xu blinked.

“Next time,” He Qingqi said, speaking as if imparting great wisdom, “tell her you’re the future son. Got it?”

She clapped him heavily on the shoulder, her tone serious.

Chai Xu, imagining that scenario, shuddered in distaste.

He pouted pitifully, lowering his voice to a pleading whisper. “No way, Qiqi, I can’t bring myself to call her ‘Mom.’”

He Qingqi raised an eyebrow, fanning her shirt playfully as she shot him a look.

Chai Xu deflated instantly.

“Alright, you guys have fun. I’m going to dry my hair and change,” He Qingqi said, tugging at her damp collar, which clung uncomfortably to her skin. She frowned slightly, muttering under her breath, “Sticky.”

Chai Xu nearly fell to his knees in submission. “Qiqi, I was wrong.”

“It was all for the show! I swear I won’t do it again.”

He Qingqi nodded in satisfaction.

Her gaze remained fixed on the inn’s entrance, the excitement in her eyes barely contained, a restless energy simmering beneath the surface.

Could it be, as Chai Xu suggested, that Zhiwei really cared about her?

She wasn’t sure.

But now, with Zhuo Zhiwei alone inside the inn… He Qingqi’s throat bobbed, her heart racing like she was at the starting line of a sprint.

Taking a deep breath, she pushed back her damp hair without so much as a glance at Chai Xu. “I’m heading in. You guys keep playing.”

Without waiting for his response, she strode into the house, her long legs carrying her swiftly inside.

Behind her, Chai Xu let out a deep sigh, his chest rising and falling with the effort.

This was the same He Qingqi who, not even two months ago, swore to him that she and Zhuo Zhiwei were just friends.

Women.

He shook his head and turned back, blending into the night.

He Qingqi picked up speed, almost running by the end, taking three stairs at a time. She nearly collided with someone at the corner.

Her eyes widened slightly as she instinctively leaned back, coming to a sudden stop.

“Zhi… Zhiwei.”

But inertia had its way, and the two still ended up bumping into each other.

Zhuo Zhiwei, holding a towel, found herself in He Qingqi’s arms, her head resting lightly on He Qingqi’s shoulder. For a moment, she froze, letting herself lean into the embrace, feeling her body go soft.

But then the damp warmth of He Qingqi’s skin against hers caused her to frown slightly. She subtly pushed away, slowly straightening herself.

She glanced at He Qingqi, then down at the towel in her hand, her fingers tightening around it as she bit her lip.

“You brought this for me?” He Qingqi’s eyes sparkled with a hint of surprise.

And just like that, she silently laughed at how easily she was pleased.

If Zhuo Zhiwei gave her candy right now, no—even just a slight smile—she would happily follow her anywhere without a second thought.

Zhuo Zhiwei nodded softly, turning her gaze away as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, looking a little shy.

Her ears, still red from Chai Xu’s earlier bold comment, stood out, pink and delicate.

He Qingqi clasped her hands behind her back, soaking in the sight of her, tilting her head with a smile that reached her eyes.

“But now that you’re back, I don’t need it anymore,” Zhuo Zhiwei said.

“Who says I don’t need it?” He Qingqi quickly grabbed the towel and threw it over her shoulders, her face betraying no embarrassment as she lied, “I actually came back to check on what you were doing.”

With that, she started pulling Zhuo Zhiwei by the wrist, as if to lead her back outside.

It was as if the person who had just complained about being sticky and uncomfortable wasn’t her.

Zhuo Zhiwei watched her with amusement, gently tugging her wrist back but not moving.

She blinked slowly. “Alright, enough fooling around. Go take a shower.”

He Qingqi’s grip on her wasn’t strong, always soft, as if she was afraid of breaking her with just a little pressure.

So, Zhuo Zhiwei easily flipped the situation, slipping her arm free and pushing He Qingqi toward the bedroom.

He Qingqi braced herself against the door, giving her a pitiful look, clinging to her to keep her from leaving.

In the dim lighting, the soft orange glow outlined Zhuo Zhiwei’s profile. Maybe it was the atmosphere, but He Qingqi’s gaze burned with intensity, and she blurted out the words she’d been holding back: “But after I shower, the party will be over, and then it’ll be time to sleep. Once I’m asleep, I won’t be able to see you anymore.”

“I want to see you.”

Her tone was unusually sincere.

Zhuo Zhiwei froze, her heart skipping a beat as butterflies fluttered wildly in her chest.

Looking into He Qingqi’s eyes, which seemed to shine like the moonlight itself, she could barely keep control of her emotions.

Without knowing how or why, her body moved on its own, her voice laced with a soft, entrancing allure: “Then how about I stay with you in your room?”

The last few words floated out as light as a breeze.

He Qingqi’s heart soared, as if she were walking on a cloud of cotton candy, soft and sweet.

She took a deep breath, watching Zhuo Zhiwei’s warm gaze, feeling like she was about to melt.

She nodded, her brows slowly relaxing as her throat moved. Her voice was low and husky: “Okay.”

With her back to the bathroom.

Inside, the shower ran like rain, but there was a fire burning deep within Zhuo Zhiwei’s chest.

Sitting on pins and needles, she wished she could go back a few minutes and never say those words.

The fire raged in her heart, spreading to her throat, drying it out and making her restless. Zhuo Zhiwei’s darkened eyes fixated on the cup on the table, and she downed glass after glass of water, trying to cool the heat inside her.

Suddenly, the sound of the shower stopped, and Zhuo Zhiwei tensed up, biting her lip, inexplicably nervous.

She bit down hard on her tongue, desperate to forget those unspeakable, shameful thoughts.

He Qingqi hurriedly dried herself off, wringing her hair like a towel and combing through it quickly before stepping out of the bathroom in a rush.

“Zhiwei!”

Her voice carried a hint of urgency, and her smile was one of pure joy, like a puppy seeking attention.

from its owner.

Zhuo Zhiwei looked up at her, her soft gaze tinged with fondness and helplessness.

“You didn’t even dry your hair properly before coming out?” She scolded lightly.

Her smile was so charming that He Qingqi couldn’t help but feel a bit dazed, a little giddy.

She lifted her chin slightly, a touch of spoiled arrogance creeping into her voice: “You dry it for me.”

Zhuo Zhiwei played along, her voice gentle. “Alright, come here.”

He Qingqi happily walked over and plopped down on the sofa.

Zhuo Zhiwei stood up, picking up the towel she’d given He Qingqi earlier and draping it over her half-wet lion’s mane.

He Qingqi closed her eyes content as Zhuo Zhiwei gently dried her hair.

It was hard to tell how much time passed, or whether He Qingqi’s hair was in pain from the towel, or if Zhuo Zhiwei’s arms were getting sore.

Their clear eyes met, glistening.

Zhuo Zhiwei was the first to stop, her throat moving again, catching He Qingqi’s gaze.

Even though her hands were trembling, she pretended it was nothing, reaching for the spot she had longed to touch once again.

Perhaps because it had been touched once before, Zhuo Zhiwei didn’t react as strongly this time, though her chest did tighten, her arm softening slightly.

She clenched her fingers, feigning calm as she asked, “Is it really that fun?”

He Qingqi’s starry eyes twinkled, swallowing before whispering, “It’s adorable.”

She licked her lips, feeling parched.

Her gaze flickered, darting around the table as if trying to avoid something, suddenly timid, as if she wasn’t the one who had just taken advantage of someone.

Her eyes landed on a glass of water. She brightened, picked it up, and downed it in one gulp, like a desert traveler finding an oasis.

He Qingqi lowered her head, smiling contentedly at the glass, but then her eyes caught on something—the messy imprints on the rim.

Her mind buzzed.

This cup… It looked like the one she’d handed to Zhuo Zhiwei earlier.

This water, she was sure, was what Zhuo Zhiwei had drunk.

Those scattered lip marks must also have been left by Zhuo Zhiwei.

In a matter of seconds, a thousand thoughts raced through He Qingqi’s mind, culminating in one realization: she had drunk from Zhuo Zhiwei’s cup.

She blinked, lifting her gaze with wide, innocent eyes, her lips curving into a sheepish smile, aligning perfectly with the lip marks on the glass.

Holding the glass delicately, she whispered, “It’s empty. I’ll get another.”

With that, she stood up and walked over to the water dispenser.

Zhuo Zhiwei’s eyes widened in an instant, her palms damp with nervous sweat.

The scenes replayed in her mind like a film on fast-forward—He Qingqi’s nervousness, her special attention, her possessiveness—all flashing before her eyes, ending on one sentence.

“I want to see you.”

The longing and reluctance in He Qingqi’s eyes were impossible to miss. They were not the feelings of a mere friend.

Zhuo Zhiwei had never been more certain than she was now.

She stood up and, in just a few steps, was behind He Qingqi.

When He Qingqi turned around, she was suddenly pulled into a tight embrace.

Stunned, she looked up at Zhuo Zhiwei, the water in the glass sloshing over the rim and soaking her hand.

Zhuo Zhiwei gazed down at her steadily, her eyes clouded with an intoxicating haze, her beauty taking on a dreamlike quality.

The effects of the alcohol were still strong, and something else seemed to have bewitched her. Her voice was soft and hushed, almost too quiet to hear.

“Do you like me?”
