Running Over The Head Of My Ex [Rebirth]

Chapter 73

Chapter 73

Zhuo Zhiwei heard the words and felt her legs weaken, staring blankly at He Qingqi.

Girlfriend?

Her heart, once calm like a still lake under the night sky, surged uncontrollably, as if someone had tossed a stone into it, creating ripples that spread outwards.

“Qingqi.”

Her voice was slightly hoarse, with a hint of restrained emotion. Her fingers clenched tightly as she tried to control the indescribable nervousness, excitement, and the dreamlike sense of disbelief.

You’re my girlfriend now.

Zhuo Zhiwei bit her lip, a strange expression flickering in her eyes.

Though she said nothing, He Qingqi immediately understood just from the way Zhuo Zhiwei looked at her.

Yes, girlfriend.

She lowered her head slightly and let out a soft laugh.

Her gaze shifted to Zhuo Zhiwei’s slender, pale wrist, where the bones were clearly defined.

A strange and violent urge suddenly rose from the depths of her heart, flooding her mind.

She wanted to… crush it.

If one day they were lying in bed together and she held Zhuo Zhiwei’s wrist, then kissed the delicate bone of her throat, would she make those soft, scattered sounds again?

Would she furrow her brows slightly, lifting her swan-like neck with a mixture of pleasure and pain?

Even though the memory of that night was fragmented and messy, looking at her now, He Qingqi couldn’t help but turn it into a series of vivid images in her mind.

So tempting.

He Qingqi’s eyes darkened, and she actually tightened her grip.

Zhuo Zhiwei frowned, wincing slightly in pain.

Realizing what she had done, He Qingqi quickly let go, feeling a sudden heat rush to her chest. She blinked rapidly.

“Sorry,” she stammered, looking awkward and avoiding Zhuo Zhiwei’s eyes.

It was only their first day as a couple, and she was already… so eager.

He Qingqi couldn’t imagine what kind of relationship they would have in the future if this continued.

Her mind, without any sense of self-preservation, was suddenly flooded with memories of late-night anime and live-action films she had secretly watched. Her throat bobbed slightly, and she couldn’t help but look forward to it.

Her face flushed a bit, her heart pounding uncontrollably.

“It’s okay,” Zhuo Zhiwei said softly.

She blinked nervously, her eyes repeatedly glancing at He Qingqi’s long, slender fingers.

They were so beautiful.

This was her first relationship. When she had woken up this morning and thought about everything that had happened yesterday, her heart felt sweet, but she couldn’t help feeling nervous.

She worried that she wouldn’t do well enough and that she wouldn’t measure up to the person He Qingqi used to like. She feared that after spending more time together, He Qingqi might suddenly realize that Zhuo Zhiwei wasn’t all that special after all.

She didn’t know what to do to give He Qingqi the best relationship experience, and the uncertainty made her anxious.

But the moment she saw He Qingqi, standing at the top of the stairs, radiating a pure, bright aura in her white sneakers, all those inexplicable emotions vanished as if they had never existed.

Her affection was so clear, like the warm sun sneaking through the window on a winter’s day, melting over her skin and deep into her heart.

Zhuo Zhiwei closed her eyes slightly, a soft smile playing on her lips. Suddenly, she felt relaxed, realizing she didn’t need to do anything special. All she needed was to be herself.

She took hold of He Qingqi’s long fingers and, pretending to be casual, led her forward.

He Qingqi’s heart skipped a beat, but she didn’t want to appear flustered, so she tried to act serious.

But that trace of seriousness only revealed the inner turmoil she was trying to hide.

Chai Xu laughed out loud.

He Qingqi, embarrassed and furious, glared at him. “What are you laughing at?”

But her fingers remained stiff, not daring to move an inch, allowing Zhuo Zhiwei to pull her along.

Chai Xu blinked, coughed lightly, and waved his hand, his face red from holding back laughter.

“Nothing, nothing.”

He had thought He Qingqi was so impressive, but in the end, all it took was a small gesture from Zhuo Zhiwei, and she was completely smitten.

His eyes unintentionally glanced at their intertwined fingers, literally a finger curl.

“My phone’s just really funny,” he added, then burst out laughing again.

He Qingqi pouted and looked toward Zhuo Zhiwei like she had been wronged, her eyes full of helplessness.

Zhuo Zhiwei suddenly remembered Tao Jinghan’s teasing evaluation of her as a “divine submissive.” The thought made her lips curve slightly, and in that instant, her icy exterior melted, making even the scenery outside pale in comparison.

He Qingqi was momentarily stunned, her light brown eyes revealing a flash of astonishment.

She bit her lip gently and couldn’t resist leaning in closer to Zhuo Zhiwei’s ear, whispering softly:

“So… You didn’t deny it just now… You really are my girlfriend, right?”

Her tone was light, but there was an unmistakable note of nervousness.

Even though she knew Zhuo Zhiwei’s feelings, from last night until now, the words “girlfriend” had only come from her own mouth.

Zhuo Zhiwei had never given a clear answer, leaving He Qingqi feeling unsettled.

Zhuo Zhiwei stared at her for a long moment, silent, before shyly biting her lip and lowering her gaze. Her long eyelashes, like crow feathers, brushed away the smile hidden in her eyes, and she gave a barely noticeable nod.

She seemed a little embarrassed, but when she met He Qingqi’s eager and expectant gaze, she finally said, “Yes.”

“Girlfriend,” she mouthed silently, out of the camera’s view.

He Qingqi felt her heart nearly stop. She hurriedly looked away, staring out the window at the shaded trees, taking a deep breath.

Her fingers tightened abruptly, holding Zhuo Zhiwei’s soft, delicate hand firmly.

Her palm was slightly damp, but it radiated a burning heat that spread through her body and finally reached Zhuo Zhiwei’s heart.

They sat quietly on the sofa, saying nothing for a long time, but beneath the surface, their ears grew redder by the second.

Chai Xu sat beside them, staring at the two, suddenly feeling like he was a bit of a third wheel.

He rubbed his nose and stood up. “I’m going to eat breakfast.”

He Qingqi’s eyes brightened immediately. She turned to Zhuo Zhiwei excitedly and asked, “Zhiwei, I made breakfast today. Would you like to try some?”

Zhuo Zhiwei nodded. “Sure.”

Her tone was gentle and restrained.

He Qingqi instinctively clutched her chest, her face showing an expression that said, “I’m about to die.”

She was completely infatuated with Zhuo Zhiwei’s demeanor.

It was as if, in a previous life, Zhuo Zhiwei had always been this elegant, poised woman holding a glass of red wine, graceful yet reserved.

But in that past life, her eyes were always clouded, never smiling, and shrouded in a gray mist.

Now, however, when she looked at He Qingqi, it was as if she trusted her wholeheartedly, willing to expose her soft belly. Her eyes often curved with joy, much more open and bright than before.

He Qingqi couldn’t quite describe the feeling in her heart. It wasn’t pure affection, nor was it simply relief. It was a complex mix of happiness and heartache, causing her to slowly let go of the hand clutching her chest.

She lowered her gaze, her expression unreadable.

“What’s wrong?” Zhuo Zhiwei asked, a hint of concern in her voice as she frowned slightly.

He Qingqi opened her mouth, hesitated, then smiled bitterly and shook her head. “It’s nothing.”

She had wanted to ask Zhuo Zhiwei why, in a past life, she had become that way.

How could someone so soft and pure become so cold and distant?

But even she didn’t know the answer. How could Zhuo Zhiwei?

With a soft sigh, He Qingqi gently wrapped her arm around Zhuo Zhiwei’s shoulder and led her to the table, where she ladled out a bowl of porridge for her.

Zhuo Zhiwei sat there, her emotions barely perceptible, staring quietly at the bowl of white porridge. She stirred it with her spoon.

She couldn’t help but feel… as though her girlfriend was hiding something from her.

What was it?

She glanced up at He Qingqi but didn’t want to pressure her.

Pressing her lips together, she took a sip of the porridge.

The rest of breakfast passed in silence. As He Qingqi’s mood gradually lightened, she gave Chai Xu a knowing look.

Chai Xu immediately understood and took it upon himself to clean up the dishes.

Zhuo Zhiwei looked a little embarrassed.

He Qingqi, putting on an exaggerated expression of satisfaction, wrapped her arm around Zhuo Zhiwei’s shoulder. “It’s fine. Our son is all grown up. It’s time for him to help his parents out a bit.”

Chai Xu, hearing this, turned back and grinned at He Qingqi, then at Zhuo Zhiwei. “That’s right, Mom. Let me handle it.”

Zhuo Zhiwei’s face reddened slightly, and she glared at He Qingqi.

She silently repeated the words “Dad and Mom” in her head, feeling oddly pleased.

She reached out and lightly grasped the fingers He Qingqi had draped over her shoulder.

He Qingqi stuck out her tongue playfully, grinning like a mischievous fox.

The inn only had three guests, and they all had their own plans, so the six of them had the day to themselves.

Lin Dao, being tone-deaf, clung to her guitar all day, while Chai Xu, acting like a walking lightbulb, tagged along with He Qingqi and Zhuo Zhiwei, who spent their first day as a couple holding hands and wandering around.

He listened to their whispering conversations and watched their sudden bursts of laughter.

Chai Xu felt a bit heartbroken, suddenly understanding what the word “bittersweet” meant.

He decided that tomorrow he absolutely would not follow these two “irresponsible parents” around!

As the sky darkened, they reluctantly parted ways and returned to their respective rooms.

After her shower, He Qingqi lay on her bed with her damp hair, a towel draped over her shoulders.

Her long legs swung back and forth. Suddenly, she paused, her fingers hovering over her phone.

In her excitement last night, she had forgotten to update their group chat.

Licking her lips, a shy smile crept onto her face.

She unlocked her phone, her fingers flying across the screen.

At that very moment, as if by some unspoken connection—

Xu: Breaking news! Great news!

Yan: ?

Qingqi: I’m in a relationship.

Immediately after—

Xu: Qingqi’s in a relationship!

Xu: ….

Xu: Didn’t you promise to let me say it?!! 【Angry】

He Qingqi tilted her head, puzzled.

Qingqi: Did I?

In his room at the inn, Chai Xu nearly rolled his eyes in exasperation.

Yan & Rui & Yuan:!!!

Yan: Congratulations, congrats!

Rui: It’s with Zhuo Zhiwei, right?

Yuan: That’s great! Finally, the cabbage you’ve been raising is going to… another cabbage!

Xu: It’s with Zhuo Zhiwei!

Xu: !!! Could you guys at least let me say it?

Through the screen, He Qingqi could almost picture Chai Xu stomping his feet in frustration, and she chuckled softly.

For the first time, she felt an overwhelming sense of peace. Her girlfriend was in the room next door, her friends were by her side, her family was doing well, and the chairman and manager were both alive and well.

Smiled gently, she sent another message.

Qingqi: Yes, it’s Zhuo Zhiwei. You guys were right. I guess I’ve had my eyes on her for a long time.

Qingqi: Last night, I don’t know where I found the courage, but I suddenly remembered a line I once read in Barnard’s Fall, “It’s not easy to feel a sudden surge of emotion. Don’t take it lightly.”

Qingqi: Under the moonlight, I confessed. It was impulsive, completely unplanned, but I followed my heart. Fortunately, I’ve always been lucky, and I got a good response.

Rui: It’s great that you feel this way.

Yan: Qingqi, you’re amazing!

Yuan: Wait, was it really Qingqi who confessed? I thought Qingqi was the ultimate bottom! Why was the confession her responsibility?

He Qingqi’s fingers twitched, and her temple throbbed. She took a deep breath to calm herself down.

Tao Jinghan! You just wait!

She cursed under her breath.

Qingqi: I’m a top! A huge top! Have you ever seen someone as top as me?!

Rui: Have you ever seen a top who constantly says they’re a top?

Qingqi: Well, now you have. Me.

Quick to respond, absolutely sincere.

He Qingqi continued bantering with them for a while longer, then flipped over and spread the towel over her pillow. Her long, black hair cascaded across the bed like a waterfall.

She stared at the ceiling, feeling oddly sentimental, then picked up her phone again.

Qingqi: Anyway, I’m doing pretty well right now. I’m working hard, seriously dating, and when the time comes, I’ll treat you all to a meal!

Yan: Deal!

Xu: Wahhh, I want a big feast! You guys ignored me all day!

Yan: Hahaha, were you a third wheel all day? I remember you two saying something about filming a show together?

He Qingqi couldn’t help but smirk at his misfortune.

But then her smile faded.

Rui: Qingqi, did you tell her about your divorce? What did she say?

He Qingqi’s head snapped up, her eyes wide with shock.

Qingqi: !!!

Qingqi: I forgot!

She had forgotten all about the fact that she had been married before.

He Qingqi blinked slowly, the silence of the night enveloping her, and she muttered softly under her breath.

“Crap.”

Her face was blank.

She had a bad feeling about this.
