Chapter 1207 - 1275: Heading to the Courtyard
Chapter 1207: Chapter 1275: Heading to the Courtyard
Li Xia watched the surroundings with a grave expression, growing increasingly anxious, and kept urging Yoda to drive faster, even faster. The small truck quickly entered the city, kicking up clouds of dust with its speed.
"Can you get in?"
"We can’t get in, but Director Shen definitely can." Li Xia wasn’t a fool; when she saw Shen Yu kill two prison guards today, she knew he’d planned it.
"I guess, everything at the grave site today was your setup, right?" she asked.
Shen Yu rubbed his dizzy head and said smugly, "Of course, from the moment my only remaining confidant came to the detention room to see me, I’ve been waiting for our family patriarch to come back!"
He said too much, and his throat started burning in pain, so he raised his hand, grabbed the kettle, and gulped down a few sips of water, breaking into a fit of coughing, "Cough cough cough..."
"Our family elder is soft-hearted, but the patriarch is famously hard-hearted. I’m now the disgrace of the family; he would never allow me to continue tarnishing the family name. His return means I’m as good as dead. So, I’ve been waiting for the elder to see me off one last time, and with his soft heart, he’ll definitely agree to my last wish before I die."
Li Xia wasn’t surprised by Shen Yu’s words, nor did she admire his scheme. But what shocked her was the unintentional information revealed in his words.
"You still have a confidant?"
"What? Can’t a scumbag like me have a confidant?" Shen Yu’s eyes were cold as he looked at her, as if he would pounce and bite her neck off if she said no.
But Li Xia wasn’t someone who hadn’t seen the world; if she could be scared so easily, how could she lead the hired soldiers?
"Indeed, it’s rare for a scum like you to have anyone loyal to you to death." Li Xia coldly mocked, "Speak up! Don’t beat around the bush. I saved you not to hear your nonsense. If you can’t help me capture Sheng Ning, I’ll kill you now."
In terms of ruthlessness, Li Xia had never feared anyone.
The current Shen Yu was just a paper tiger; he might have some abilities, but his martial prowess was long gone. He’d already been tortured into a cripple in the detention room; a mere facade of intimidation was useless.
She could let him have his way with words, but if he was of no use, she could kill him at any time.

In the General Union Courtyard, Sheng Ning had lunch and drank half a bowl of chicken soup Auntie had stewed. In the afternoon, she continued writing Resurrection, all things she had seen with her own eyes before, and she wrote fluently and quickly.
"Ningning, take a break! You’ve been writing for almost a day now." Auntie brought up some fruit and found her still writing, and couldn’t help but urge.
"It’s okay." Sheng Ning rubbed her sore wrist, "Anyway, I have nothing to do. If I don’t find something to do, my mind will wander."
"If the President and Captain saw you like this, they’d definitely say something."
"That’s why I’m writing while they’re not home!" Sheng Ning playfully winked, "Auntie, when do you think I can get out of bed?"
"Soon!" Auntie, having had children, was experienced and noticed Sheng Ning had a good mindset. She could endure loneliness, staying in bed all day without moving, and never sneaked out.
So, her recovery was much better than anticipated.
"By the way, where’s my uncle?" Sheng Ning suddenly realized she hadn’t seen Su Jiang for almost a whole day. "When did he leave?"
"He left in the morning."
"His injuries aren’t healed yet, why did he go out?"
"I heard it was urgent; he left in a hurry."
"Oh!"
"Ningning, what do you want for dinner?" Auntie asked with a smile, finding this girl too easy-going and well-behaved, she couldn’t help but want to care for her more.
"Hand-pulled noodles! Aunt Wu, your hand-pulled noodles are delicious."
"Alright, there’s plenty of chicken soup left from lunch; we’ll make chicken soup hand-pulled noodles for dinner."
As they were chatting and laughing, suddenly the house shook. Sheng Ning widened her eyes in terror, immediately wrapping herself in the blanket and rolling off the bed. Before she even hit the ground, bullets came flying in, shattering the window glass everywhere. More bullets were recklessly fired at the bed, dressing table, and wardrobe.
In less than ten seconds, the entire room was in shambles, especially the nightstand, which was almost riddled with bullet holes.
"Ahhh..." Aunt Wu screamed with her hands over her ears, but in a critical moment, she didn’t forget to use her body to shield Sheng Ning.
"Are you okay?" Sheng Ning asked anxiously.
"I’m... okay... okay..." Aunt Wu was so frightened her legs turned to jelly, she couldn’t even stand, "What... what’s going on? How is there a gun attack?"
"It must be the enemy." Sheng Ning didn’t dare to stand up and could only crawl on the ground, trying to escape toward the door. However, before she could reach it, the door was already knocked open.
Luckily, she reacted in time and dodged back; otherwise, it would have cost her her life.
The first to come in was Yoda, with a smug, arrogant face.
Sheng Ning was close to the door, and when it opened, she hid quickly behind it.
"Ah..." Aunt Wu, lying on the ground, was the first to enter Yoda’s sight. After all, Aunt Wu was a simple rural woman who had never seen such a scene. She panicked and could only scream.
"Damn it, shut up." Yoda kicked her, and Auntie hit the table leg hard, then fell back to the ground, her whole body aching so much she hunched like a boiled shrimp.
Aunt Wu lifted her head; the pain all over her body instead made her calm. She glared at Yoda with resentment, "You traitors will surely come to no good end."
"Damn it, watch me kill you now."
"Wait." Li Xia glared discontentedly at Yoda, "Don’t forget our purpose."
