Chapter 1297: Chapter 1367: Seeking Help in Person
Little Lin En’s delicately carved face turned rosy, the four-year-old child shyly lowered his head, hesitating to speak for a long time.
Sheng Ning thought to herself, dusty and gray, what’s “handsome” about that! But hearing people say she and Lin En looked like mother and son made her happy.
“Thank you, I wish for a son as sensible, obedient, cute, and smart as Lin En in my dreams.”
She praised Lin En several times, this being the first time he was ever so complimented, his entire face blushed, even his neck turned red.
“Hahaha… so cute.”
Chinatown was vast, it being the largest gathering place for Chinese in the whole country. Walking through it, the Eastern architectural style and ancient vibe swept over them. After selling some empty bottles at a recycling station, Little Lin En pulled Sheng Ning’s hand like a little adult and walked inside.
The little fellow waited until everyone had walked far away, then quietly raised his head.
“Auntie…”
“What’s up?” Sheng Ning blinked her innocent eyes at him.
“Auntie.”
“Go on.”
“Never mind,” the little guy shyly changed the subject, “Auntie, further inside is where I used to live.”
“How far back is ‘used to’?” Seeing his old-soul demeanor, Sheng Ning couldn’t help but want to tease him.
Lin En tilted his head, seriously calculating for a long time before replying, “Four months ago, I know how to count, Grandma taught me.”
“So smart.” Sheng Ning smiled and praised, “How can Little Lin En be so clever! Once you start school, you’ll definitely be the smartest kid in the whole school.”
“But I have no money for school.”
“Don’t worry! You’ll have money in the future, and Little Lin En will surely go to the best school in the country. By the way, what are your best schools called again?”
“Ivy League schools are all great.” It’s clear Lin En is eager to study, looking up at Sheng Ning with eyes shimmering with anticipation.
“Let’s go then!”
“Okay!”
The two walked and talked along the way, past the bustling street in the front part of Chinatown, further in were the residential areas. Though not as grand as the outside, the streets were clean and orderly.
Most of the Chinese here were laborers from long ago who, through over a hundred years of effort and hard work, achieved substantial success, some even surpassing the locals.
Lin En’s grandma’s house was a small storefront facing the street, not big, but with a small courtyard, and a loft upstairs.
They arrived outside the small courtyard, Lin En pointed at the loft upstairs and said, “Grandma has a very skilled tenant who doesn’t like socializing much. If she agrees to help us, your baby will be born safely.”
“Thank you, Lin En.” Sheng Ning had decided not to say thank you to Lin En, having already regarded him as her family in her heart. Saying too much to family might seem distant.
But this time, Lin En was asking for help for the first time, and it stirred her heart deeply.
This little guy was very proud; after being kicked out of Grandma’s house, he had never returned. If not for seeking help, he wouldn’t have returned himself.
“Auntie, you said we are family, and family doesn’t need to say thank you.”
“Alright!”
“I’ll knock.” With that, Lin En reached out and knocked on the door hard, only after quite a while did someone come to open it.
“Stop knocking, it’s so noisy.” A lazy voice sounded, and as the door opened, Sheng Ning saw a woman with neat short hair standing tall inside.
