She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 1698 - 1775: You Are Bao’er

Chapter 1698: Chapter 1775: You Are Bao’er

The crowd was engaged in animated discussions, not noticing a petite figure descending from the floor above. As she passed by a group of people, someone with sharp eyes spotted her, staring in astonishment.

"May I ask who you’re looking for, student?"

An’an frowned slightly, a hint of confusion crossing her delicate, three-dimensional face.

"This is a restricted area, student. You can’t walk in carelessly."

Confusion flickered across An’an’s eyes as she glanced at the person speaking, answering coldly, "I have a pass." With that, she handed over her pass, the name Sheng An clearly printed on it.

"...Hehe... so you’re Sheng An." The woman who had questioned her looked embarrassed, inwardly marveling at how everyone said the new professor looked young, yet she hadn’t expected her to be this young.

Hard to believe—is she even an adult? How could someone so young be on par with a professor in their sixties or seventies?

"Are you an adult?"

"I am." An’an retrieved her pass, and seeing the astonishment on the faces of the Research Institute staff, she decided to hang her pass around her neck. "Actually, I wasn’t looking for anyone; someone was looking for me."

After she finished speaking, her expressionless face turned towards the door, where Shen Ming stood watching her. An’an said no more, striding quickly towards Shen Ming.

The people she left behind exchanged glances filled with surprise and admiration. Totally different from what they imagined—so young, like a child brought by the Research Institute staff. And had she really been here since visiting three days ago without leaving?

Shen Ming watched An’an approach, deep suspicion in his eyes slowly solidifying. He thought of Bao’er, his grandfather’s favorite when they were children—so small, hardly able to speak, yet with eyes that could chill you to the bone.

Just like now.

Even back then, Bao’er was feared by both his father and uncle.

"Bao’er," Shen Ming called out with a sinister smile.

An’an frowned slightly but didn’t react to the name.

Shen Ming knew he had guessed correctly; before him stood Bao’er, not An’an. To deal with this cousin, he had done extensive research, even consulting foreigners.

Fortunately, this was eighty years ago; in ancient times, Bao’er’s situation would surely have been seen as a possession by an evil spirit.

"Get to the point. I don’t have much time." Soon she would depart for the secret research base; she had spent a few days here but found the environment unsuited to her, plus her mentor was urging her to leave as research had reached a critical impasse.

An’an checked the time on her wrist, the shine of her diamond watch dazzling under the sunlight.

Shen Ming was nearly blinded, "That watch must be very expensive?"

An’an glanced him over from head to toe, her red lips parted slightly as she spoke nonchalantly, "Certainly more valuable than that wife of yours right now."

A trace of discomfort crossed Shen Ming’s face, though he had mentally prepared. With Hai Yunfeng backing Bao’er now, who would dare provoke her?

"Let’s find somewhere to sit and talk."

"Mm!" Indeed, the doorway wasn’t a place for discussions. Just outside the Research Institute was a small resting area with simple wooden benches; the two sat side by side on one.

Many people passed by the Research Institute; especially at the lower levels, people knew Sheng An had just left, and every now and then, someone pretended to be occupied, stretching their necks to sneak a peek.
