Chapter 1905: Chapter 51: Poverty Limits Imagination
"Yunbo, we believe in you."
"..." Believe in her but still laugh so creepily?
Gao Jinglin scratched his head, hesitantly saying, "Sister Bo, did I cause you trouble?"
"No worries." She had plenty of trouble already, so it didn’t matter, "Wait for me, I’ll change clothes and head out! Just so you know, I don’t have money for buying gifts, don’t expect me to bring one." She really didn’t want to go in the first place.
"Got it, got it, who does she think she is to expect Sister Bo to buy a gift, does Gu Yuehong have such face?"
"I just love how you speak."

Gao Jinglin energetically rode his bicycle, taking Gu Yunbo first to the supply store to buy a bunch of stuff, then rode together to the Gu Family’s place. By the time they arrived, it was almost dark. Families living on the street where the Gu Family was situated were either wealthy or noble.
The standalone garden villa was brightly lit, crowded with young people. The elders of the Gu Family, afraid the juniors wouldn’t feel comfortable, primarily stayed on the second floor, leaving the entire first floor open. Chairs and sofas were moved away, creating a large space for dancing.
The record player played Chopin’s concerto, the interior felt warm and spring-like, with many young people gathered together chatting and playing games. When Gu Yunbo came in with Gao Jinglin, her eyes widened.
As the saying goes, poverty constrains one’s imagination.
If she hadn’t seen it with her own eyes, she’d never believe a birthday party in 1977 could reach this level.
"Yunbo!" Gu Yuehong lit up with delight upon seeing Gu Yunbo come in, exclaiming, "You finally arrived, I thought you wouldn’t come!"
The crowd in the living room was silent as chickens, everyone looking at her with odd, disdainful, disgusted, and picky expressions. Apparently, Ping Simin who arrived earlier had already spread the word.
Great! Wonderful, this loudmouth.
Gu Yuehong seemed oblivious to the strange atmosphere in the living room, smiling ambiguously at the two, as if she had known all along. "Yunbo, I told you that you like Gao Jinglin, yet my brother wouldn’t believe me. See! It’s true after all."
"You’re overthinking." Gu Yunbo’s attitude remained cold, not bothering to say another word to her.
Gao Jinglin nonchalantly handed the items he was carrying to Gu Yuehong, "Here’s the birthday gift for you, here, brown sugar and canned food."
Gu Yuehong, holding the items in her hands, almost lost her smile. Do they see her as a patient or someone on postpartum confinement? Actually giving her these things.
Gu Yunbo secretly laughed; it was her idea when Gao Jinglin asked in the supply store what to buy.
"Yuehong, you look thinner, make sure to nourish yourself more."
"Hehehe..." Gu Yuehong fake-laughed, "Maybe you need these more, what if accidentally something happens with Gao Jinglin?"
Though she spoke softly, the room was quiet, with only the background music, so everyone could hear. One proud girl slammed the table and disdainfully said, "Such disgrace, associating with a person like this is utterly shameful."
"If you’re ashamed, then get lost!" Gao Jinglin replied unkindly.
"Gao Jinglin, you..."
"What, what? Are you stuttering?"
The girl ran out covering her face in anger, Gu Yuehong apologetically smiled and hurriedly chased after her.
Ping Simin, sitting among the crowd, smiled smugly at Gu Yunbo, mouthing, "Serves you right, b*tch."
Gao Jinglin was extremely angry, pulling Gu Yunbo, saying, "Sister Bo, let’s go! Don’t bother with them, snobbish people one after another."
The crowd was unwilling, blocking the door, pointing at Gao Jinglin’s nose, cursing, "Who are you insulting? Who are you insulting? Are you asking for trouble?"
