At this moment, Ling Chuxi would never have thought that this old man actually had such an influential background.
“Waiter, the bill please!” The old man halted his chopsticks and patted his belly. All the plates on the table were absolutely empty, not even a drop of oil and soup were left over.
“Coming, coming.” The boss ran over in a crazed happiness as he gulped down a mouthful of saliva. Then, he started to calculate the bill and read out the amount. ‘It’s early in the morning and I have already earned so much money!’
The old man held a toothpick while picking at his teeth, and at the same time he stretched out his hands in perfect satisfaction and dug something out when that pleased smile of his was frozen on his face.
The boss looked at his expression and his heart made a clunking sound. He could not have met with someone who was planning to dine and dash, right?
The boss stayed calm and collected on the surface. But that figure of his which was like a wooden board had already blocked the entrance.
“Dear guest, do you wish to tell me that you were in a rush to go out today and had forgotten to bring money along with you?” The boss with his big arms and round waist folded his arms and said while suppressing his anger, as he looked at the old man who was searching all over his whole body and yet there was nothing when he stretched out his hands eventually. He had thought that he was a big customer at first. In the end it was just someone who had planned to eat a free meal. As he looked at the dishes on the table that had been piled up like a small mountain, fire almost spewed from the boss’s nostrils.
“I’m so sorry. I have forgotten to bring money with me indeed. I will give it to you after I have gone back to take it.” The old man rubbed his nose and said.
“Hmph. Don’t even think of walking out of this door if you do not pay me the money by today. You have eaten a free meal and you dared to eat till you are on top of my, Zheng Datu’s head. You must be seeking death!” The muscles all over the boss’ body were trembling as he slammed the door with his palm, which made a muffled “boom” sound.
“But I really did forget to bring money with me.” The old man said.
“Did not bring money? Then you must have some valuable items on you, right?” The boss said.
The old man smiled bitterly and shook his sleeves. There was practically nothing else that was valuable apart from that piece of clothing which was considered quite decent.
“Boss, do you want to report to the officials?” The waiter saw that the boss was furious and asked while trembling in fear.
“Report to the officials? Report my a*s to the officials. This da*n fellow. Beat him up! Beat the heck out of him. How dare he eat a free meal at my place? Whatever the amount that you have eaten I will make you spit them all out.” The boss said with an angry roar and took the lead to bolt the doors.
A few of the waiters had also lifted up the stools. Even the lady boss, who also had a fat figure, had raised her rolling pin and dashed out to surround the old man at the centre.
“Forget it. I will pay his bill.” Ling Chuxi opened her mouth and said and threw over a large ingot of silver.
Although he deserved to be beaten up for eating a free meal, he was an old man in his seventies or eighties after all. It would be quite pitiful to see him being beaten up. And the most important thing was this. Did the boss really want to beat him up till he threw out all that he had eaten? That would be so disgusting. How could she continue eating her food? Furthermore, on the account that this old man was also a great foodie, she would help him to pay. Ling Chuxi’s mood was not too bad today, so she treated this as doing charity work in passing.
“Hmph, old fellow. Consider yourself lucky. If not for this young lady showing kindness to you, I would have broken all the old bones in your body today.” The boss weighed the silver in his hands and roared at the old man fiercely while putting down the door latch.
“Many thanks to you young lady. You just wait a moment. I will pay you back once I get the silver.” The old man ignored the boss who was roaring away and said to Ling Chuxi with gratitude.
“Sure. No problem.” Ling Chuxi casually answered him. She really did not take this little money to heart.
The old man went out after he had finished speaking. After a while, Ling Chuxi finished eating and paid her bill. She was sent off by the boss and waiters bowing to her and she continued her journey toward the capital.
She did not walk far when she saw the old man walking ahead unhurriedly. It looked like he was actually heading in the direction of the capital.
