Chapter 857: Scam Artists are Not Cute! (25)
Yan Family Residence
Elder Yan, a legend in the music world during his youth, had a home filled with vintage memorabilia—posters, records, and collectibles from a bygone era. The entire place radiated an ancient, timeworn atmosphere.
But as soon as Shi Sheng entered, she felt an unsettling chill, a pervasive coldness that gnawed at her comfort. Her master, upon entering, grew even more stern, his whole body visibly tense.
Shi Sheng glanced around the living room. It was cluttered with numerous aged items.
“Make yourselves at home,” Elder Yan invited as they stepped in, instructing the maid. “Prepare some tea.”
Understanding that Shi Sheng and her mentor needed to talk, Elder Yan smiled and said, “Xia Ling, come with me to the study.”
Xia Ling released Shi Sheng’s hand, nodding at Master Yan before following Elder Yan upstairs.
“Master.”
“Tell me, what’s going on?” Master Yan sat across from Shi Sheng.
Shi Sheng pursed her lips and got straight to the point. “Master, you’re aware of my abilities, right?”
She couldn’t believe her master was in the dark about it.
“Who told you?” He didn’t deny it.
Shi Sheng shrugged. “I figured it out myself.”
Her master scrutinized Shi Sheng for a few moments. Seeing her composed expression, he softened. “You were young back then. I didn’t tell you to protect you, fearing you might misuse this power.”
Words of power—an extraordinary ability.
He had been stunned when he discovered it.
“Now that you know, I must remind you to stay true to yourself and avoid illegal activities,” her master advised. “Using this power too often can exact a heavy toll. The world has its rules.”
His greatest fear was his disciple straying down a dark path.
“Words of power don’t work on good people,” Shi Sheng said, resting her chin on her hand. “And it can’t kill. It merely enforces consequences.”
For instance, if a murderer goes unpunished, they’ll eventually face imprisonment. If someone steals another’s wealth, they’ll end up penniless.
Master Yan seemed surprised. “How did you learn that?”
“By trial and error,” Shi Sheng replied. ‘It’s not like there are instructions. How else would I find out?’
Her master’s expression turned odd. Her words suggested she’d once contemplated murder.
Alarmed by this thought, Master Yan sternly warned, “Xiao’guai, listen to me…”
He proceeded to give her a thorough lecture on the importance of law and order.
By the time they left the Yan residence, it was nearly 2 AM. As they walked out, Shi Sheng glanced at Elder Yan sitting on the sofa. “Master, I think you should consider moving Elder Yan to a different place. This house… it feels ominous.”
Master Yan looked grave. “Stop saying nonsense. Let’s go home.”
Shi Sheng shrugged, sensing he knew but didn’t want to discuss it further.
Upon returning to the public eye, An Chen quickly regained his lost popularity. Though the past incident was still occasionally mentioned, it hadn’t tarnished his reputation significantly. His fans pitied him, believing he was merely deceived by Yin Bao Bao.
An Chen feared Xia Ling’s rise and had always tried to overshadow him in their group, rarely giving Xia Ling a chance to shine.
Now, An Chen opposed Xia Ling in everything, but Xia Ling mostly ignored him, only resorting to physical confrontations once provoked.
Xia Ling’s methods of handling his anti-fans became increasingly sophisticated. Some anti-fans even began defending him under the guise of criticism.
This quirky form of support was new to Shi Sheng.
Rumors about Shi Sheng also spread, including tales of her cursing people impulsively.
Eventually, someone revealed her master’s identity from the award ceremony. He had a verified Weibo account as a legitimate Taoist priest.
Netizens quickly unearthed photos of Shi Sheng in a Taoist robe on a mountain. Despite being a side profile, her adorable baby face was unmistakable.
‘A disciple of a master!’
‘No wonder she’s so formidable; no wonder her predictions always hit the mark!’
Whenever Shi Sheng visited Xia Ling’s company, a crowd would surround her, begging for their fortunes told.
“I’m not a fortune teller,” Shi Sheng would protest in exasperation.
‘I(bbb) really don’t know how to do it!’
‘If you continue to act like this, I(bbb) might have to call the cops!’
“Xiao Meng, please tell my fortune. I’ll pay you.”
“Xiao Meng, help me out. I’ve had terrible luck recently…”
“Xiao Meng…”
‘Predict my ass!’[1]
‘Where would I have learned to tell fortunes? I can only curse people.’
Shi Sheng pushed through the crowd. ‘Let me(lz) through!’
‘Where’s my sword?’
Taking a deep breath, she said with a sinister grin, “I see dark clouds over your foreheads, bloodshed is near!”
Everyone: “……”
Seizing the opportunity, Shi Sheng slipped through the crowd and dashed into Xia Ling’s practice room.
‘Son of a bitch, these people are practically begging for my curses! Freaks!’
The practice room was quiet. Shi Sheng looked around but saw no one. She headed to the lounge area and found Xia Ling lying on the sofa.
Wearing headphones with his eyes closed, his hair fell naturally over his brow. He seemed unaware of her presence, lying perfectly still.
Shi Sheng crept up to him, intending to steal a kiss. Just as she leaned down, Xia Ling’s eyes opened, and he grabbed her hand, pulling her onto him.
Holding her by the waist, Xia Ling asked, “Trying to eat my tofu[2]?”
“Yep.” Shi Sheng kissed him.
‘What’s wrong with taking advantage of my own man?’
Overwhelmed, Xia Ling murmured hoarsely, “Stop… stop…”
Turning his head, he panted, and gently pinched Shi Sheng’s cheek. “If it weren’t for this inconvenient place, I wouldn’t let you off.”
Shi Sheng responded seriously, “That’s why I’m teasing you here!”
‘If it were convenient, why tease? I’d(bbb) just take him.’
“We’ll settle this at home,” Xia Ling said, suppressing his desire as he sat up with her in his arms. “Xiao’guai, would you be the leading lady in my new MV?”
“Your MVs don’t usually have a leading lady,” Shi Sheng noted.
Xia Ling nuzzled her neck, his lips trailing down to her collarbone, nibbling softly. “I want you to be part of everything I do.”
He wanted his world to be filled with her presence.
So he could be certain she was truly there.
That she belonged to him.
[1] – She’s being punny again. You ask someone to tell your fortune by saying 算, and the raws say 算个屁!Which is basically saying “predict a fart!”
[2] – This is a term for taking advantage of someone. I’ll leave it as this or translate to English depending on the situation. I think it sounds funnier this way hehe
Little Fairy: I want your votes to fill my world.
Little Angels: Ha!
Little Fairy: What does ‘ha’ mean? Yes or no? One word!
Little Angels: Ha!
Little Fairy: … Can’t love anymore!
Little Angels: Loved before.
