Chapter 394 394: Westfalen Peace Award
Chapter 394 394: Westfalen Peace Award
Mika picked up the phone, a small smile tugging at his lips despite his confusion about why Nadia would be calling at this hour.
"What's up, Nadia?" He said, his voice light and teasing. "I wasn't expecting you to call me."
"Don't you usually prefer messages? You know, since whenever you speak on the phone in that monotone voice of yours, the other recipient can't understand if you're happy or sad or angry at all."
"It becomes this whole big issue. So you send messages with a ton of emojis to show your expression. Or at least a video call."
He leaned against a nearby lamppost, getting comfortable.
"So what's with the actual phone call? Did the emoji keyboard break or something?"
For a moment, there was silence on the other end.
Then—a voice.
Emotionless. Chill. Flat.
And yet, somehow, carrying a hint of warmth underneath.
"Right now, I can't exactly video call you, Mika. I'm in another realm. The connection for actual video calls still needs some updates on this side."
"It's...frustrating."
"And messages—I did think about them. But no matter how many emojis I used, I wouldn't be able to describe how proud and happy I am right now..."
"...So I decided to just call you instead."
Mika blinked.
Proud?
Happy?
His eyebrows rose.
"Proud? For what? Did something happen to you?"
He asked curiously.
"Did you do something really cool or something? Conquer a small country? Negotiate a peace treaty?"
"No, Mika. It's not me."
"Then what—"
"It's you."
"Me?"
"Yes, Mika. You."
He sat down on a nearby bench, suddenly feeling like he needed to be seated for whatever was coming next.
"What about me?"
Nadia's voice, when it came, carried a weight that made his heart skip.
"I called to inform you that you've been nominated for the Westfalen Peace Award, Mika."
Silence.
Complete, total, absolute silence.
Mika stared at the phone in his hand like it had just grown wings and started speaking ancient prophecies.
"What? Me? Nominated? For a peace award? This is some kind of joke, right? You're pulling my leg. This is an audio prank. You're secretly recording this to play at a family gathering later, aren't you?"
Nadia's voice remained perfectly flat.
"It's not a joke, Mika. Your name is already on the list. In fact, it's honestly late for names to be added. The award ceremony is literally next month."
"But the association knew they had to slot your name in after what you did today. There would have been absolute outrage otherwise. Complete and total uproar. People would have rioted."
"You understand."
But he didn't and Mika's brain was still struggling to catch up.
The Westfalan Peace Award is essentially like any other peace award given to individuals who have accomplished great humanitarian deeds like helping impoverished communities in devastated regions, entering war zones to provide aid, mediating between hostile factions to create peace, making massive contributions to humanity through medicine and the likes.
The only real difference is that the Westfalen Peace Award operates on a far higher scale.
It focuses primarily on peace relationships between entirely different races or species, on resolving conflicts that transcend ordinary political borders—matters involving tensions between worlds and broader universal balance.
It recognizes those whose work does not merely quiet a single battlefield but contributes to lasting, inter-realm harmony.
Because of that, it's considered one of the most prestigious honors in existence.
And yet, right now, Mika couldn't understand why he, of all people, was the one receiving such an award.
"Hold on. Back up. What exactly did I do for a peace award?"
Mika asked in wonder.
"I mean, I've literally been at school all day. Half the time I was playing football. The other half I was at a party. That's the exact opposite of what an ideal peace activist should be doing."
"I didn't sign any treaties. I didn't negotiate any conflicts. I didn't—"
"It's exactly because of the party that you held that you're getting this award, Mika."
He stopped.
"The...party?"
"Yes, the party you helped host." Nadia confirmed. "You may think it was just a small, impromptu gathering. But the significance of what happened there—the change it caused in inter-realm relationships, in interspecies dynamics—it's massive, Mika."
Nadia to a breath a calmly went on to explain why this was so significant.
"For decades, people have been trying to create an event where humans and demi-humans could genuinely connect."
"Governments have spent millions on initiatives."
"Diplomatic corps have dedicated their entire careers to it."
"Peace activists have organized countless events."
She paused.
"But none of them worked. Not really. There was always tension. Always awkwardness. Always that invisible wall."
"But you?"
A hint of hope surged in her voice.
"You single-handedly managed to do it all on your own. In an impromptu manner with ice cream, food, games, and dancing. You achieved results that no one else has ever achieved."
Mika was speechless.
"The leaders of clans that normally hate humans..." Nadia continued. "...are actually forming positive opinions right now. They saw the footage."
"They saw their people laughing with humans. Dancing with humans. Enjoying humans. And it's changing their perspectives."
She went on.
"And humans—humans from high places, humans who have been utterly against demi-human races their entire lives—they're watching the same footage."
"They're seeing their children, their students, their fellow citizens bonding with demi-humans. And they're thinking. Rethinking."
"Some of them are even reaching out to demi-human clans for collaboration."
Mika was quiet for a long moment.
Then, weakly, "But...it was just a party..."
"It was a milestone, Mika." Nadia interjected.
"You achieved something that has never been achieved before. Something that career diplomats have spent their entire lives trying and failing to accomplish."
"So yes—it's only natural that you would be nominated for such an award. And not only be chosen for it, but there's a very high chance that you might actually win it."
Mika shook his head, still processing before finally asking,
"Okay, but...how in the world do you even know that this party was going on? And all the things that happened? You're in another realm. You weren't there. You didn't see it."
Nadia's response came with what might have been a scoff—but even her scoff was monotone.
"How could we not know, Mika? Literally the whole world knows about the party you threw."
He narrowed his eyes.
"Every single news agency broadcasted it." She continued. "Not just to our world—to the other world as well. Every channel. Every network. Every streaming platform."
"The images of humans and demi-humans bonding together—dancing together, singing together, fighting together in friendly matches—have done something that has never been seen before."
"The ratings for those broadcasts have grown exponentially. Meaning everyone, literally everyone is tuned in to watch this."
Mika felt a headache forming.
"The videos have spread everywhere." Nadia added. "They're causing a massive change in society."
"Right now, if you open up social media—whether it's in this world or the other world—you'll see it."
Mika, against his better judgment, actually put the phone on speaker for a moment and pulled up his social media.
He scrolled.
And scrolled.
And stared.
The trending lists were dominated by the party.
Hashtags like—
#HarmonyParty
#NuriTheMiracleWorker,
#HumansAndDemiHumansUnited
#IceCreamForPeace
#HistoricNight
—they were everywhere. The top ten trending topics were all variations of the same thing.
Videos with tens of millions of views showed moments from the party: humans and demi-humans dancing together, laughing together, trying each other's food, playing games, bonding.
His own blurry face appeared in several of them—usually in the background, watching with that quiet, satisfied expression.
He scrolled to the comments.
"As a demi-human, I'm literally crying right now. I never thought I'd see humans being so friendly with us."
"I'm human and I always thought demi-humans were scary, but they look so happy and kind in these videos. Maybe I was wrong about them."
"Who is that guy? The one always in the background who for some reason has a mosaic on his face?"
"He looks like he's responsible for all this."
"His name is Mika! He's the one who organized everything! He's a legend!"
"My clan leader just sent this to our entire clan chat and said 'this is what we should aspire to.' I'm shook."
"Humans and demi-humans playing games together??? What dimension did I wake up in???"
"This is the most wholesome thing I've ever seen. I've watched it seventeen times."
"Someone give that Mika guy a medal. Actually give him all the medals."
Mika stared at the screen for a long, disbelieving moment.
Then he put the phone back to his ear.
"Wow." He said quietly. "I...did not expect this party to have that significant of an effect."
And then—miracle of miracles—Nadia chuckled.
It was soft. Barely audible. Probably undetectable to anyone who didn't know her as well as Mika did.
But it was definitely a chuckle.
"That's exactly why it had such an effect, Mika. Don't you see?"
He frowned. "What do you mean?"
"You did this with no intentions, Mika. No agenda. No political maneuvering."
Nadia answered swiftly like she has already analysed the succes of the party from every angle.
"You simply wanted to bring people together because a tiny dragon princess asked you to. You wanted them to have fun. To laugh. To enjoy themselves. That's all."
Her voice grew slightly softer.
"For years now, people have been trying to do what you did. But they did it with the sole intention of bringing two parties together for the sake of world political peace."
"They organized events to look like harmony, to seem like unity. But it was always forced. Always performative. Always with an ulterior motive."
She paused.
"But you on the other hand just wanted everyone to have fun, Mika. You didn't care about politics. You didn't care about reputation."
"You just...made it happen. And that's exactly why you accomplished the impossible."
"And for what you've done..."
Her tone turned heartfelt.
"...I'm truly am proud of you, Mika."
Something in Mika's chest tightened.
Nadia wasn't expressive. She never was.
Her voice was a flat line on a heart monitor—consistent, unchanging, impossible to read.
But right now? Right now he could feel her pride radiating through the phone.
He could sense her happiness. Her joy. Her genuine, unguarded emotion, filtered through her unique way of expressing it.
She was giddy.
Nadia, the calm, calculating, always-in-control strategist was giddy with happiness for him.
And in response, Mika smiled.
A genuine, warm, slightly emotional smile.
"Thanks, Nadia. That...That means a lot coming from you."
Then Nadia spoke again, and there was something almost shy in her tone.
"I've actually always been proud of you, Mika. After all, with all the things that you've accomplished, it's impossible as a mother not to be.
"But you know, I'm especially proud of right now siince...you've done something that I myself have not been able to do before."
Mika's eyebrows rose.
"All my life." She continued quietly. "I've tried to create connections between realms. Between species. Between people."
"It's what I do."
"It's what I'm good at. Strategic alliances. Diplomatic relationships. Long-term planning."
"But..." Her tone turned pityful. "I could never create what you created tonight. A genuine, organic, joyful connection between humans and demi-humans."
"No strategy. No planning. No manipulation."
"Just...people being people. Having fun. Laughing together. Becoming friends."
"You did in one night what I've been trying to do for years, Mika. And I'm not jealous."
She shook her head on the other side.
"I'm not envious. I'm just...proud. Proud of you. Proud that someone I care about was able to achieve something so beautiful."
Mika's throat felt tight.
"Nadia..."
But then her voice came again, sharper this time.
"But to tell you the truth, Mika...I am slightly jealous."
"No—I'm actually really jealous."
"W-What?" He said, completely guard by change in her tone. "There's no way you're actually jealous right."
"No, I most definitely am Mika."
She said honestly.
"I'm a little bit frustrated as well. Even though I shouldn't be."
"After all..." Her monotone carried a weight he rarely heard. "...you've basically done what I've been doing my whole career in a single night."
"And it...it slightly makes me feel incompetent."
Mika's eyes widened.
"It also makes me feel..." She continued, her voice quieter now. "..as if my little Mika has grown wings and flown far ahead of me."
"You're reaching places that I can't even reach anymore. And it makes me...scared."
Mika didn't know what to say to this. He just sat there, processing until—he let out a chuckle.
A genuine, warm, amused chuckle.
"Okay, now you're being ridiculous, Nadia."
"Huh?"
"Whatever you said before—the proud stuff, the achievement stuff, all of that—I can accept."
He gave a grateful smile.
"I'll even admit it feels pretty good to hear. But now? Now you're being absolutely crazy."
Nadia was silent on the other end.
"Especially..." Mika continued. "...since everything that happened tonight, how successful this night—it was all because of you."
Confusion crept into her voice.
"What...do you mean, Mika? I did nothing at all. I literally sat back in another realm and watched the party live."
"Other than calling the academy to let them give you full authority over the party and to let you do whatever you wanted—which took approximately thirty seconds—I did nothing."
Mika shook his head, even though she couldn't see him.
"It's not about the direct actions you did while the party was going on, Nadia."
"Then what—"
"It's about the things you taught me years ago."
"The lessons and values that you instilled into me that made me the person I am."
