Chapter 598: Taboo Dreams
Chapter 598: Taboo Dreams
In one dream, the Maiden of Fate was lying face-down on a massage table, her back completely bare.
Charlotte noticed, with some surprise, that her aunt possessed what was probably the most abundant ass in the entire family!
That was saying something, given that every Battle Angel was generously endowed.
Even Charlotte’s own mother, whom she had squeezed many times, had a fat ass.
But the Maiden of Fate definitely had the biggest cheeks.
An shockingly a older version of Mika was oiling her body and giving her a massage.
She whimpered and moaned as his hands worked her muscles.
“Oh, Mika…that feels so good…”
“Relax. I’ll take care of everything.”
“Please…don’t stop…”
Charlotte watched, feeling rather bizarre.
—
In another dream, the Maiden of Fate was stuck inside a washing machine.
She kept calling out to Mika in a seductive tone.
“Mika~ I’m stuck. Help me out~”
“How did you even get in there?”
“I don’t know~ I just ended up here~ Please help me~”
“Have you tried just…climbing out?”
“I can’t~ I’m too weak~ You need to come save me~”
—
In another dream, they accidentally booked a hotel room together.
An older Mika and the Maiden of Fate had to sleep on the same bed.
“This is awkward.” Mika said.
“Is it?” The Maiden of Fate smiled, sliding under the covers next to him. “I think it’s cozy.”
“Your my mother. It is weird.”
“We’re not blood related.”
“That’s not the point!”
“What is the point?”
“Decorum! Propriety! Basic common sense!”
“I don’t see those things in this room.”
In another dream, they were stuck in an abandoned shed during a blizzard.
It was so cold that they had to take their clothes off and huddle together for warmth.
“S-Sorry about this.” Mika chattered, his teeth clacking.
“Don’t apologize. It’s survival.”
“I-It still feels wrong.”
“The only thing wrong is the weather, sweetheart.”
—
In another dream, they were taking a bath together, their conversation intimate and quiet.
“Mika let me clean you down there…”
“Huh! Hell no! That’s weird!”
“But I’ve heard kids your age don’t bathe properly and as your mother it’s my duty to make sure my son’s maintains his hygiene.”
“Now let Mommy take care of you!♡~”
“W-Wai—Nooo…Ahhh—!”
Charlotte quickly escaped as she felt something extremely wrong with that scene.
—
And then there was the wedding dream.
Charlotte would never forget it.
In this dream, Mika was a grown man—tall and handsome in a perfectly tailored suit.
He stood at the altar of a beautiful chapel, his expression radiant with joy.
The pews were filled with familiar faces—her mother, her aunts, her sisters.
Everyone was dressed in their finest clothes. Everyone was smiling.
And walking down the aisle toward him, dressed in a gown of pure white, was the Maiden of Fate!
The pastor who happened to be the Maiden of Fate’s own daughter smiled warmly as she looked between the couple.
“Do you, Mika, take your mother to be your lawful wife? To stand by her side through joy and sorrow, through prosperity and hardship, to love and cherish her for all the days of your life?”
“I do.” Mika answered without hesitation.
She turned to her mother, her eyes already misting over.
“And do you, Mother, take your son to be your lawful husband? To love him faithfully, trust him completely, and remain by his side for the rest of your lives?”
The Maiden of Fate squeezed Mika’s hands, tears streaming down her cheeks.
“I do. With all my heart.”
Charlotte’s sister beamed.
“Then, by the vows you have made before those gathered here, I now pronounce you husband and wife.”
She giggled.
“You may kiss the bride.”
They leaned in to kiss.
Charlotte woke up gasping!
“What…” Charlotte whispered to the darkness. “…was THAT?!”
She had always known her sisters were her rivals for Mika’s affection. That was expected. That was normal.
But her aunt!? The Maiden of Fate?!
The woman who had helped raise Mika from infancy, who had been like a mother to him?!
‘T-That’s wrong!’ Charlotte thought, her innocent mind struggling to process what she had witnessed.
‘You can’t marry someone who’s like your son. That’s not how it works!’
Charlotte didn’t have words for what that was. But she knew, with absolute certainty, that she could never, ever mention what she had seen.
The Maiden of Fate would probably disintegrate her with a thought if she knew Charlotte had been poking around in her subconscious.
—
Overall, what Charlotte knew was this:
Her entire family loved Mika the most.
Every single one of them had their undivided attention toward him.
And of course, she felt a little dissatisfied that she wasn’t the number one position in everyone’s hearts.
But when she thought about it being Mika…it actually made sense to her.
Mika was special. Mika was extraordinary. Mika was the center around which their entire family revolved.
“Well.” She murmured to herself, settling back against her pillows. “At least we all have good taste.”
—
But the person Charlotte wanted to explore the dream of most was, of course, the main character of all her family’s dreams.
Mika.
This wasn’t simply because she loved him so very much, though she did, with every fiber of her being.
It was also because Mika had always been a mystery to her.
Even as a young child, he had been remarkably reserved, keeping his thoughts and feelings locked away behind walls that no one seemed able to breach.
He didn’t like to open up. He didn’t share his worries or his fears or his hopes.
The incidents in his life, the tragedies, the traumas, the impossible burdens he had shouldered had aged him in ways that Charlotte could sense but never fully understand.
Sometimes, when he thought no one was watching, he would get this look on his face.
A look that made Charlotte’s heart ache with the desperate need to help him.
That was why she wanted to enter his dreams. To see what he was hiding. To understand what was troubling him.
To find a way to ease whatever pain he was carrying.
But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t get in.
It was as if Mika’s dreams were sealed behind an impenetrable wall. Whenever Charlotte reached out with her blessing, searching for the familiar signature of his sleeping mind, she found nothing.
Not resistance, exactly—resistance implied something to push against.
This was more like a void. An absence. A vacuum where his dreams should have been but weren’t.
This was utterly baffling to her.
She could enter the dreams of the Battle Angels themselves, women whose mental defenses should have been impenetrable.
But Mika, a child with no blessing at all, was completely inaccessible.
“Mika!” She complained one afternoon, finding him in his usual spot in the library. “Why won’t you let me into your dreams?!”
Mika didn’t look up from his book. “Because my dreams are none of your business.”
“But I want to see them! I want to know what you dream about!”
“No.”
“Please?” She deployed her most devastating expression. “Pretty please? I’ll be really quiet. You won’t even know I’m there.”
“No, Charlotte.”
“But I—”
“I said no.” Mika finally looked up, and the expression on his face made Charlotte’s protests die in her throat.
It wasn’t anger. It wasn’t annoyance. It was something graver. Something almost…protective.
“My dreams are not a playground. They’re dangerous. If you went inside, you’d be torn to pieces.”
Charlotte stared at him for a moment. Then she burst out laughing.
“Torn to pieces? Mika, that’s ridiculous! I’ve been in hundreds of dreams. Thousands, maybe. None of them have ever hurt me.”
“Your luck won’t last forever.”
“It’s not luck! It’s skill! I’m the best dream walker in the world!”
“Charlotte.” Mika closed his book with a soft thump. “I’m not joking. Stay out of my dreams. Promise me.”
“But—”
“Promise me.”
His voice was so serious, so intense, that Charlotte felt a flicker of genuine unease.
But she pushed it aside, as she always did. Mika was just being overprotective. He was always overprotective.
“Fine.” She sighed dramatically. “I promise. But you’re missing out. My dream tours are legendary!”
Mika just shook his head and returned to his book.
She was certain he was exaggerating. He had to be. Dreams were dreams, sometimes strange, sometimes scary, but never truly dangerous.
—
But what she didn’t know was that Mika was telling the absolute truth.
His mind was not like other minds. Even at his young age, he had already begun constructing a mind palace.
A vast, intricate mental architecture where time flowed differently than in the waking world.
In this palace, he could spend what felt like hours, days, even weeks developing and refining spells while only minutes passed in reality.
It was an incredible tool, a sanctuary of focused thought that allowed him to accomplish things no child should be capable of.
But it was also a trap.
The mind palace was still in its elementary stages, unstable and unpredictable.
If Charlotte were to accidentally stumble into it during one of her dream explorations, she could be trapped there for what felt like years.
Her mind would wander its infinite corridors while her body lay in bed, and by the time anyone realized something was wrong, she might have spent a decade alone in that empty, silent place.
And that wasn’t even the worst of it.
There was the Will of the World that visited in his dreams.
The same Will of the World that whispered to him in that seductive voice, urging him toward impulses he had to constantly fight to control.
Take over the world. Claim everyone as his own. Dominate. Conquer. Possess.
This was the real reason Mika never liked sleeping. Why he avoided naps whenever possible.
Sleeping meant the will interfering. And while he had grown better at it as he aged, he still struggled.
If Charlotte had entered his dreams and encountered that will…
He couldn’t even bear to imagine what would happen to her.
This was why Mika constantly lectured Charlotte about the dangers of dream walking.
He told her that dreams were unpredictable. That she could stumble into something she couldn’t handle.
That the mind was a fragile thing, and once broken, it couldn’t always be fixed.
But Charlotte never listened.
“Nothing bad has ever happened to me.” She would argue whenever he brought it up. “I’ve been exploring dreams for years, and I’ve never once had a really bad experience.”
“There’s a first time for everything.”
“I can handle nightmares. If a dream gets too scary, I just wake myself up. It’s easy.”
“And what if you can’t wake yourself up? What if you get stuck in a dream that won’t let you go?”
“That won’t happen.”
“How do you know?”
“Because I’m Charlotte!” She would strike a pose, her chin lifted with pride. “Daughter of the Blade Maiden! Wielder of a SSS-class blessing! The greatest dream walker who has ever lived!”
“Nothing in the dream realm can threaten me!”
“Charlotte—”
“Besides.” She would continue, her confidence utterly unshaken. “No one can match me when it comes to mind control and dream manipulation.”
“It’s literally what I was born to do. You’re worrying about nothing, Mika. Absolutely nothing.”
And hearing this, Mika knew he had lost.
Charlotte’s blessing was her pride and joy. Asking her to use it less was like asking the sun to shine less brightly. It simply wasn’t going to happen.
So Mika did the only thing he could do.
He watched her. He worried about her. And he hoped, with every fiber of his being, that his thoughts would never come true.
But unfortunately, his predictions turned out to be true.
