Chapter 643: Public Execution
Chapter 643: Public Execution
The troops below had gotten the message.
They redoubled their efforts, bringing in the remaining prisoners with increased efficiency.
Helicopters carrying rapists and corrupt officials and their families touched down one after another.
Trucks filled with disgusting, horrible people who had ruined countless lives rolled into the square.
Portals opened in the air, disgorging prisoners from other realms, other dimensions, other worlds.
The square, which was actually a massive park filled with monuments and memorials began to fill up.
It was an enormous space, the kind of place that normally seemed impossible to fill.
But now, with tens of thousands of people being packed into it, it was becoming crowded.
“Praise be the Battle Angels!”
“Bring us justice my lady!”
“Throw them all into prison!”
“Make sure they rot in cells for the rest of their lives!”
The shouting and moaning and begging grew louder and louder, a cacophony of desperation that rose into the night sky.
And still, the Battle Angels waited.
—
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the lead officer in the command center put down his phone and looked up at the sky.
“My lady, it’s done!” He shouted, his voice carrying across the square. “Every single person on the list along with their families has arrived!”
The moment he spoke those words, the entire area fell silent.
Fifty thousand people that consisted of prisoners, guards, reporters, protesters, and onlookers all fell quiet at once.
The time of judgment had arrived.
The purpose of this gathering was about to be revealed.
The reporters leaned forward, their cameras zooming in on the Battle Angels.
The protesters held their breath, waiting for the first words to be spoken.
The billions of people watching on screens around the world pressed closer to their devices, desperate to see what would happen next.
What were the Battle Angels going to do?
“Maybe they’re going to pass judgment on everyone here.” Someone in the crowd whispered. “Act as judges and sentence them to prison.”
“Are they going to give a speech?””
“No.” Another person replied. “What if they’re going to execute them right now?”
The surrounding crowd burst into nervous laughter.
“No way! That can’t be true! You know how kindhearted the Battle Angels are. They would never do something like that.”
“Yeah, look at all those families out there. How could they possibly do something like that?”
“You’re right. They’re the protectors of the world. They’d never harm innocent people.”
The man who had asked the question shrugged, looking slightly embarrassed.
“Yeah, I guess you’re right.”
All eyes turned back to the screen, watching and waiting for the Battle Angels to make their move.
But nothing happened.
The Battle Angels continued to hang in the sky, motionless.
And the cameras, despite their powerful zoom lenses, couldn’t quite capture their expressions.
Some strange atmospheric distortion obscured their faces.
That was exactly why no one could see how hard they were fighting against the chains that bound them.
The Maiden of Fate had given up entirely, accepting the flow of what was happening. But the others still struggled, their minds screaming against the control even as their bodies refused to obey.
But it was useless.
No matter how hard they fought, they couldn’t move a single muscle of their own accord.
And then, without warning, Mika appeared behind them.
He floated in the air, directly behind Yelena, invisible to everyone below.
The cameras didn’t capture him. The reporters didn’t see him. Even the most sensitive detection equipment registered nothing at all.
He was a ghost, a presence that existed only in the space between moments.
He drifted close to Yelena, his purple eyes gleaming in the darkness.
“I’m giving you the honor of initiating tonight’s sacrifice, Yelena.” He whispered. “The sacrifice that will begin the new year.”
Yelena slowly turned her head, her eyes wide with terror and desperation. Tears streamed down her face as she looked at the boy she had raised.
“Please, Mika.” She begged, her voice barely a whisper. “Stop this. I beg of you—don’t do this!”
Mika just smiled at her, that terrible, empty smile that had become so familiar in the past hour.
“I’m sorry, Yelena. But I’m doing this for your own good…and for the good of the world.”
He reached out and gently touched her cheek, his fingers cold against her skin.
“The only reason Marcus decided to go after Charlotte was because he wasn’t scared of the consequences. He thought he could get away with it. He thought there would be no price to pay.”
His smile turned eerie.
“But from today onward, everyone will understand what happens when you cross a Battle Angel. The world will understand who it belongs to.”
And before Yelena could say anything else, he gently nudged her forward.
She began to descend and the crowd below erupted.
“Look! Lady Yelena is coming down!”
“She’s making her move!”
“What’s she going to do?”
The cameras flashed, capturing every moment of her descent.
Reporters shouted into their microphones, their voices overlapping in a frenzy of excitement.
The billions of people watching on screens around the world leaned forward, desperate to see what would happen next.
Yelena descended slowly, gracefully, her body moving like a puppet on strings. She came to a stop halfway between the sky and the ground, still floating high above the crowd.
And then, a figure began to rise from among the prisoners.
The moment people saw who it was, gasps echoed through the crowd.
“Oh my god, it’s Lady Oracle!”
“Amanda Lioretta! It’s her!”
“She used to be Lady Charlotte’s teacher!”
“She betrayed her! She was the main conspirator behind that bastard Marcus’s domain!”
The crowd erupted in fury, hurling insults and curses at the rising figure.
“Slut!”
“Whore!”
“Kill that bitch!”
“Filthy traitor! How dare you betray us!”
“Disgusting monster! You deserve everything that’s coming to you!”
Amanda was crying, her face streaked with tears and snot, her body shaking with terror.
“NO!” She screamed. “No, It’s Not Me! I Never Did ANYTHING LIKE THAT! YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE ME!”
But no one listened.
She continued to rise, lifted by invisible forces, until she was face to face with Yelena.
“Please, Lady Yelena!”
Amanda sobbed, her voice cracking.
“Please, let me go! I’m so sorry! I was forced! I was coerced by that bastard Marcus! I had nothing to do with this at all. Please—you have to let me go!”
The reporters below buzzed with excitement.
“What will Lady Yelena do? She’s face-to-face with the woman who betrayed her family, who gave up her own daughter to that monster!”
“What judgment will a mother’s rage deliver?”
“A life sentence in maximum security?”
“The mines, perhaps, to slave away for the rest of her days?”
“Maybe she’ll strip Amanda of her powers on the spot!”
The world watched and waited, expecting prison sentences, trials, the orderly machinery of law.
Because in their eyes, the Battle Angels had always been kind-hearted saints who never took things too far.
They didn’t seem like scary people—not really.
Only those who had witnessed them in actual battle knew the truth about how powerful and terrifying they could be.
That was why the world was utterly shocked when a portal suddenly opened beside Yelena.
And from that portal emerged a sword.
It was simple, rustic and old, without ornament or decoration. But its edge gleamed with a terrible sharpness, and something about its presence made the air itself feel dangerous.
The crowd frowned in confusion.
“Lady Yelena brought out a sword?”
“What is she doing?”
Amanda’s reaction was far more extreme.
“NO!” She screamed, her voice cracking with terror. “PLEASE! I BEG YOU, MY LADY! NO! DON’T! I BEG YOU! STOP! PLEASE!”
She thrashed against her invisible bonds, her face contorted with fear as she begged for her life.
But Yelena’s face was like stone, her expression unreadable.
The crowd below was confused, uncertain. They had expected a speech, a judgment, a pronouncement of guilt. They had not expected this silent, terrifying display of power.
“Wait.” Someone in the crowd muttered. “There’s no way she’s actually going to…”
“She can’t be serious.”
“This has to be some kind of bluff.”
But the old soldiers below, men who had seen what the Battle Angels were truly capable of felt a cold dread creeping into their hearts.
“This isn’t right.” One of them muttered. “This isn’t how they do things.”
But before anyone could act, Yelena raised her hand.
The sword rose with her, floating in the air beside her, its blade catching the moonlight and gleaming with deadly promise.
Amanda’s screams intensified, her voice cracking with terror.
“NO! PLEASE! I’M BEGGING YOU! DON’T DO THIS! PLEASE!”
Yelena’s hand reached its apex, hovering above her head for one eternal moment.
And then, she brought it down.
The sword moved along with it.
Whoosh!
It was faster than the eye could follow, a blur of motion that lasted barely a fraction of a second.
One moment it was floating beside Yelena; the next, it was back in its original position, as if it had never moved at all.
The crowd held its breath.
“What happened?” Someone whispered.
“Did you see that?! The sword moved, didn’t it?!”
“I didn’t see anything!”
“No, it definitely moved. But what did it do!?”
“Lady Yelena just lifted her hand and put it down. That’s all.”
The confusion grew. The speculation began.
And then someone screamed.
“Ahhhhh!”
It was a guard near the front of the crowd, his face white as a sheet, his finger pointing at Amanda with a trembling hand.
Amanda had stopped moving.
She hung there in the air, frozen, her mouth still open from her last plea. And as the world watched in growing horror, something began to happen.
A thin line appeared on the top of her head.
Then another.
And another.
And another.
Soon, her entire body was covered in a grid of fine red lines, crisscrossing over her skin like a net of blood.
Yelena’s hand reached out, bound by the Queen’s tragic magic, and gently pushed Amanda’s shoulder.
Splat!
Amanda’s body dissolved into hundreds of tiny, bloody cubes of flesh, falling from the sky and splattering violently across the stone pavement of the plaza below.
In that moment, no one dares to make a single movement.
One second, Amanda had been floating there—screaming, begging, pleading for her life with tears streaming down her face.
The next second, she was gone. Rained down like some grotesque offering from the heavens, splattering against the cold stone of the square with wet, meaty sounds that would haunt the dreams of everyone present for years to come.
No one could believe what they were seeing.
And then the wind shifted.
A single gust swept across the square, carrying with it the copper-rich scent of fresh blood and exposed viscera.
It washed over the prisoners in a wave, invading their nostrils, coating their tongues, making the reality of what had just happened impossible to deny.
Until finally—pandemonium erupted.
“MURDER! MURDER! THE BATTLE ANGELS HAVE KILLED THE LADY ORACLE!”
“SHE ACTUALLY KILLED HER! AMANDA LIORETTA IS DEAD!”
“SHE CUT HER INTO PIECES! SHE CUT HER INTO PIECES!”
“OH GODS, OH GODS, THE BLOOD—I CAN SMELL HER BLOOD!”
The prisoners nearest to the impact site scrambled desperately to get away, their shackles clanking and rattling as they rolled and crawled over each other in their frantic attempts to escape the falling flesh.
The guards themselves stood frozen, their faces pale with shock, their weapons hanging limply at their sides.
They had been prepared for many things tonight—riots, escape attempts, even attacks from the prisoners themselves.
But this? This was beyond anything they could have imagined.
The reporters and cameramen, who normally would have been preying for position to capture every angle of such a momentous event, were utterly paralyzed.
Their cameras remained fixed on the scene, but their operators’ hands shook so badly that the footage trembled and blurred.
“What…what is happening?” One reporter finally managed to stammer into his microphone, his professional composure completely shattered.
“What the hell did Lady Yelena just do? She…she committed murder right in front of everyone! This can’t be real—this can’t be happening!”
But it was real. It was happening.
And the world was watching.
—
In a modest apartment in the western district, a young couple sat frozen on their couch, their New Year’s celebration forgotten.
The wife’s hand had flown to her mouth, her eyes wide with horror. The husband simply stared at the screen, his face ashen.
“That’s not…that’s not possible.” He whispered. “The Battle Angels would never…”
He couldn’t finish the sentence.
—
In a crowded tavern in the merchant quarter, the usual raucous atmosphere had been replaced by utter silence.
Dozens of patrons stood motionless, their drinks forgotten, their eyes fixed on the magical projection above the bar.
The bartender’s hands trembled as he reached for a glass that wasn’t there.
“Gods above.” Someone breathed. “They actually killed her.”
—
In mountain deep within the ancient forests, the dragon elders gathered around their communication crystals, their ageless faces marked by expressions of profound disturbance.
“The protectors of humanity have become executioners.” One of them said softly. “The balance has shifted.”
—
In a dwarven forge-city beneath the mountains, work had stopped entirely. Every dwarf in the city was clustered around viewing screens, their usually stoic faces betraying shock and disbelief.
“By the ancestors.” The forge-master muttered. “What madness is this?!”
—
In a children’s hospital ward, the nurses had tried to turn off the screens, to shield their young patients from the horror unfolding in the capital.
But it was too late. The the image of a woman being cut into pieces by the very heroes they had been taught to admire was branded into their minds.
“Mommy.” A small boy asked, his voice trembling. “Why did the angel lady kill that other lady?”
His mother had no answer.
—
The world had exploded into chaos.
They had all expecting judgment. Prison sentences. Exile. Public humiliation.
Not a single soul had expected murder.
