Chapter 3920: Arrival
Chapter 3920: Arrival
Lu Yin saw powerful cultivators unleashing earth-shattering attacks, only to die in agony.
He even saw Liu Li standing on the Sixth Night Pillar beside the smooth area where the Night Pillar had been severed. Her body collapsed and slid across the flat region, leaving behind a long trail of blood.
He saw the entire Sixth Night Pillar be infested with Allsenses. Everyone on the Night Pillar appeared to have died.
Tragic. It was the only word that could describe the scenes he saw in the scroll.
Lu Yin felt a heavy weight settle onto his heart. No wonder the Fifth Night Pillar needed to be sent as reinforcements. Greater Sancte Awe Gate had even prioritized it above settling the upheaval in the Spirit Nidus, just so that Lu Yin could provide assistance for the war.
Liu Li was a peak Dukkhan, and yet even she had died so casually.
Her death had been strange. She had suffered no visible injuries, which meant that her internal organs must have been transformed into particles, which was the method that the Allsenses used to kill.
The creatures infiltrated a body, and then replaced the organs to kill the host. It was a simple process, and yet it had brought misery to the Second, Fourth, and Sixth Night Pillars during the war.
Lu Yin summoned the Azuresword Sovereign and several others so that they could study the scroll together.
The Azuresword Sovereign was surprised. “Cong Gu?”
He pointed to a cultivator who had unleashed an incredible amount of power, only to still die screaming. “That’s Cong Gu, a peak Dukkhan from the Second Night Pillar. While he did accept a Seed Transfusion, his combat strength was still quite impressive. He was known for perfectly combining palm and fist techniques: the Five Yang Palm and Six Harmony Fist. His combined Five Yang Six Harmony technique was powerful enough to make anyone cautious. How did he die?”
Lian Jing stared at the scroll. “I can’t tell.”
Qiunan Zhen, Wei Heng, and Jing Lian were all present, as were Wu Jie, Lang Ruyu, and Ku Nan. Everyone studying the scroll was at least an Ortuser. Lu Yin had gathered them to help identify every method of the Allsenses’ attack that was recorded in the scroll.
Only by understanding the creatures would it be possible to counter them.
The creatures were truly bizarre, able to enter living bodies along invisible channels. Before the Sixth Night Pillar left, the known channels of infiltration were sound, scent, and sight.
From the records in the scroll, it appeared that those were far from the only means now.
“This group died from sound. They chose to be shredded by that storm instead of enduring the pain of having their internal organs replaced. It appears that being killed by the Allsenses is extremely painful.”
“This group died from scent. Look at the plants around them; they must have released some invisible scent that might even be undetectable to humans. Even so, as soon as it comes into contact with the body, it becomes a channel of attack.”
“Only a few died from making visual contact. Everyone covered their eyes.”
Lu Yin immediately ordered everyone aboard the Fifth Night Pillar to blindfold themselves with black cloth.
“The way that Cong Gu and Liu Li died is too strange. They weren’t killed by sound, scent, or sight,” Jing Lian commented in a grave tone.
The Azuresword Sovereign’s expression darkened. The Night Pillars should not have gone. Liu Li and Cong Gu may not have been as strong as him, but they had still been peak Dukkhans. Despite that, they had still died such mysterious deaths. Who knew how many experts from the three Night Pillars had perished? If humans could not determine the methods that the Allsenses used to attack, it was possible that all of them could die there.
“It was confirmed early on that these creatures are able to evolve by coming into contact with other creatures and that they can develop new channels of attack. It appears that some of their new methods are extremely bizarre, to the point where not even peak Dukkhans can avoid them.”
“They must have developed channels of attack that are specifically tailored for us humans,” Wu Jie exclaimed.
Lang Ruyu was filled with regret. If he had known about this, he would have chosen to be beaten to death instead of joining the reinforcements. Just look at how many people died in this scroll! It’s no wonder why they’re so desperate for reinforcements. This is going to be an issue. This is a huge problem.
“The Allsense Megaverse might pose no less of a threat than the Skyveil Megaverse. Judging by the damage that the three Night Pillars have already suffered, it’s clearly more dangerous than the Orchid or Clearvoid Megaverses,” Qiunan Zhen said with a sigh.
The Qiunan family possessed firsthand knowledge of almost every foreign megaverse that had been attacked by the Nine Odysseys, having been part of every war. While some information remained highly classified, the family still possessed a general understanding of each war.
Qiunan Zhen’s words caused Lang Ruyu, the Azuresword Sovereign, and everyone else to fall into even deeper despair.
This war was going to be very difficult.
Lu Yin had never participated in such a war before.
In the past, his enemies had all been tangible. There had been the wars between the Human Domain, the Astral Beast Domain, and the Tehcnocracy of the Fifth Mainland, and later between parallel universes of the Tianyuan Megaverse. The most brutal conflict had been the one between all of humanity and Aeternus, which had culminated in the great battle at the Immemorial Citadel. Later, Lu Yin had fought in the Spirit Nidus as well.
But no matter how fierce or brutal the battles were, everything that Lu Yin had faced had been visible and concrete.
Seeing what the Allsenses were capable of left people at a complete loss.
While it was possible that the creatures were not overly powerful, the scroll showed scenes of many cultivators dying horrible deaths. Even so, tremendous numbers of Allsenses had been slaughtered. One scene showed how a single sword had ripped a universe open, wiping out an entire swarm of Allsenses. The creatures did not seem to possess strong defences, and yet they had still managed to kill both Cong Gu and Liu Li.
The ones to be feared were not powerful enemies, but rather the strange ones.
“Wars against foreign megaverses usually include a long period of studying the local lifeforms’ habits, habitats, birth cycles, and so on. Without such research, it’s nearly impossible for us to win.” The Azuresword Sovereign sighed.
“Unless Greater Sancte Green Lotus is present, as he can see through everything with karma,” Wu Jie muttered.
His comment startled everyone, and suddenly, all eyes turned to Lu Yin.
Everyone present was familiar with Lu Yin, and they each had their own suspicions. It was possible that the power of karma was no longer exclusive to Greater Sancte Green Lotus.
Lu Yin did not hide anything. “I have comprehended karma, so as soon as we reach the Allsense Megaverse, I’ll use that to observe things. Don’t rush in. We need to first understand these creatures.”
“You’ve actually comprehended karma?” Lang Ruyu was stunned.
Ku Nan’s hundred-meter-long black hair drifted upward, visibly revealing her excitement.
Jing Lian’s jaw fell open. So he really has mastered karma. No wonder Master is so preoccupied with this man. There’s no longer any point in keeping an eye on him. Those who cultivated karma and refused to enter the Sea of Karma were essentially defying the heavens.
Wei Heng was speechless. If he had known this, he would not have joined the reinforcements.
The Azuresword Sovereign just stared at Lu Yin. He really has mastered karma. That means that what I felt back at the Sixth Night Pillar must have been from being pierced by karma. That’s too terrifying, as karma can expose anything. This man is the second Greater Sancte Green Lotus.
Lu Yin dismissed everyone after giving them orders to warn the rest of the troops of the necessary precautions. When it came to fighting against the Allsenses, each person would need their own method of coping. Until the creatures were completely understood and their methods seen through, any sort of unified coordination would be impossible.
Lu Yin was eager to understand exactly what the Allsenses were.
It would take about five years to travel from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse to the Allsense Megaverse, which was longer than the journey to reach the Orchid Megaverse.
Five years was not overly long, and many people found themselves wishing the journey was longer, so that they could better prepare.
Everyone on the Fifth Night Pillar was brainstorming for ways to defend against the Allsenses’ channels of attack. Some managed to come up with creative ideas, but Liu Li’s death had shown Lu Yin that human effort was still limited. No matter how much they planned, it was impossible to keep up with the creatures’ rapid evolutionary rate. A single adaptation could cost humanity dearly.
Wait. Lu Yin suddenly realized something. The Allsense Megaverse did not seem to have a Mother Tree.
The thought suddenly struck Lu Yin.
One year later, the Night Pillar was still flying through the Aevum Inch, and Lu Yin was staring off into space. The Morrow Behemoth had thrown the Night Pillar with more power than a springboard, but there were surely limits to such a method. Was that limit also the distance that the Nine Odysseys Megaverse tolerated letting other megaverses approach them before they felt at risk of being exposed by those foreign megaverses?
In that case, just how far could Whither Peak observe?
Also, just where had the two Immortal Greater Sancti gone to? They must have gone to some other location in the Aevum Inch. Was it a place where foreign megaverses met humanity’s territory, or was it at the utmost limits of what the Nine Odysseys Megaverse could observe?
As Lu Yin was pondering such things, someone arrived and offered a respectful bow. “Li, formerly of the Spirit Nidus’s Phantom Reach, greets the Odyssey Commander.”
Lu Yin looked over. “The Phantom Reach?”
Li maintained his respectful attitude. “Yes. I once trained with the Phantom Reach. After losing the position of master to Qianmen Feidu, I followed Senior Hui to the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. I am currently a member of the Spirit Coalition.”
“What do you want from me?” Lu Yin asked.
“Senior Hui asked me to offer an explanation regarding Lan’s situation to you. Senior Hui had no knowledge of Lan’s actions and is willing to swear to that. If you don’t believe her, you are welcome to have someone investigate the matter. If even the slightest attempt at deception has been made, Senior Hui is willing to die without a burial.”
“You joined the Fifth Night Pillar just to deliver this message?” Lu Yin asked.
Li bowed. “Yes.”
“You seem very loyal to Hui.”
“Senior Hui provided me with an opportunity. If I had not entered the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, I would have died long ago.”
“How did Hui enter the Nine Odysseys Megaverse?”
Li had not expected that question. “I do not know, Lord Lu.”
Lu Yin nodded. “Understood.”
Li said nothing more and simply offered another bow before dismissing himself.
He had done what he needed to do. As for the war in the Allsense Megaverse, he intended to stay as far away from the fighting as possible. He had never planned to gain anything from this expedition.
...
Another four years passed in the blink of an eye. The people of the Fifth Night Pillar were finally able to see the Allsense Megaverse.
The megaverse looked hazy, though it was filled with stars, just like the Tianyuan Megaverse or the Spirit Nidus.
Lu Yin looked at the distant object and frowned. There was no Mother Tree to be seen.
To the knowledge of many from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, every megaverse should have a Mother Tree. The Nine Odysseys Megaverse, the Spirit Nidus, and the Tianyuan had all had one. Even the previously targeted Orchid, Skyveil, and Morrow Megaverses had had Mother Trees, but the Allsense Megaverse lacked one. That only served to increase many’s anxiety.
Regardless of what people might think, they had arrived at the Allsense Megaverse. What lay ahead of them was war.
Their first task was to rendezvous with the Second, Fourth, and Sixth Night Pillars and obtain whatever information had been gathered on the Allsenses. Then, they could coordinate their attacks.
The Fifth Night Pillar looked like a streak of light as it shot towards the Allsense Megaverse, violently crashing in a pre-designated location.
The force of the Morrow Behemoth’s throw remained consistent. No matter where in the Aevum Inch a Night Pillar was thrown from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, an entire Night Pillar might as well be smaller than a sesame seed. Upon leaving the Night Pillar, its orientation no longer mattered.
The Fifth Night Pillar landed in a place that should be approximately the same as the other three Night Pillars.
As stars streaked by, Lu Yin’s expression grew increasingly grim. Not a single cultivator could be seen anywhere in the entire starry sky. All he could make out were floating corpses that were pushed aside, flung into the distance by the incredible momentum of the Fifth Night Pillar.
What’s going on? Could all three of the other Night Pillars have been completely wiped out?
Not even the war against the Skyveil Megaverse had been this tragic.
Boom.
The Fifth Night PIllar smashed through dozens of planets before it finally crashed into a massive asteroid field. This region was filled with asteroids as large as the Nightking Planet, which was an extremely rare sight. It looked as if countless planets were interlinked.
The Fifth Night Pillar eventually embedded itself into one of the massive asteroids. Rock fractured and shattered, but they were held relatively in place by the surrounding asteroids, which prevented the asteroid from completely shattering.
As soon as the Fifth Night Pillar came to a halt, Lu Yin looked to his right. Another Night Pillar was a short distance away, a severed section surface clearly visible. It was the Sixth Night Pillar.
“No one is to leave without my command. Follow the plan and guard your designated areas. If anyone is targeted, eliminate them immediately.” Lu Yin’s voice echoed across the Fifth Night Pillar.
