Chapter 319: Four Kids?
Chapter 319: Four Kids?
The drive to the estate where Jamal’s house was located was quiet. Jamal had placed a call to his family to let them know they wouldn’t be joining them for the barbecue as planned because Abigail wasn’t feeling well and he’d be taking them to his house instead.
Inside the car, Josh was still asleep, his small head tilted to one side, his lips parted as he dreamed. Lucy the panda had slipped from his hand onto the seat beside him.
Abigail turned in her seat to watch him, her heart softening. "He’s out," she said quietly.
Jamal smiled faintly. "Yeah. He had an early morning," he said, eyes on the road. "And a long day saying goodbye to the Bees."
Abigail nodded. Her fingers played absently with the strap of her handbag. She was emotionally drained. Both the memories that had come back to her last night and Genevieve’s video all weighed on her chest.
Abigail lifted her gaze as Jamal’s car rolled past the tall iron gates and into the estate. She’d seen her fair share of fancy houses, but she admired that the place looked like something out of a glossy lifestyle magazine.
The streets were wide and lined with different trees. Fancy cars gleamed in driveways, and homes so stunning they looked like architectural art. Every corner of the neighbourhood whispered money, but not in an ostentatious manner.
Abigail smiled faintly, her eyes sweeping past the next property, even grander than the last, before Jamal slowed to a stop in front of his.
If the other houses were impressive, Jamal’s was breathtaking. It stood on a gentle rise, bold and modern yet inviting in a way Abigail hadn’t expected. The smooth white exterior caught the afternoon light perfectly, while dark wooden accents added a touch of warmth. Large glass panels reflected the surrounding greenery, and soft gold lights framed the pathway, making the house seem to glow even in daylight.
The front yard was surprisingly spacious, with a green, neatly trimmed lawn that seemed perfect for evening playtime. Abigail could already picture Josh running across it, chasing a ball or drawing lines with a stick. A few colourful flowers peeked out from the hedges.
"You like it," Jamal said with a proud smile when he saw the light in her eyes and the wide smile on her tired face.
"I do."
"So, you won’t mind living here after we get married?" He asked, and Abigail’s smile widened at the thought that this was going to be her home. She loved it and felt at home already.
"I think it’s perfect. The exterior at least."
"Oh, don’t worry. The interior is just as impressive but you can work on it if you see the need to," he assured her before opening the door.
Abigail stepped out of the car and looked around as Jamal opened the back door to get Josh out.
Josh’s eyes blinked open as Jamal unfastened his seatbelt and he yawned. "Are we there now?"
"Change of plans, buddy. We came to our house instead. I thought you’d want to see where you’ll be living after Mommy and I get married," he said as he lifted him out of his seat and placed him on the ground.
Josh ran around the car immediately to where his mother stood. "Is this really going to be our house?" Josh asked, his eyes wide.
Jamal chuckled. "Yeah, kiddo. Home sweet home. Let’s go see inside."
Abigail followed quietly as Jamal led the way up the short path to the front door.
When Jamal opened the door, the interior greeted them with a burst of natural light and calm sophistication. Cream-toned walls lined with paintings, tasteful art, family photos, and shelves stacked with books and awards. The subtle wooden details gave it character. It wasn’t just beautiful; it was lived in. A faint citrus scent made the space feel fresh and homely.
"It’s beautiful," she said honestly. "Simple, but it feels... peaceful."
"Not as beautiful or peaceful as your presence here would make it," Jamal said, hugging her from behind while Josh ran around, looking and touching everything.
Abigail smiled, turning around to face him. Somehow being here with him had lifted her spirit and she was glad he’d brought them here instead of taking her to his family gathering.
"Thanks for bringing us here despite how important I know this hangout with your family was to you considering you haven’t been with them in a while," she said, and he smiled as he brushed her hair behind her ear.
"Your well-being is my responsibility," he said, holding her gaze. "How do you feel?"
"Better," she admitted.
"Good. Let’s work on making it the best, shall we?" He asked, and she smiled.
"How do you plan to do that?" She asked, looking forward to that.
"In here you’re not Dawn Hank or Abigail Harris. You’re just my beautiful girlfriend and Josh’s pretty mum. Take a break from everything else and just be here with me. You can start by watching me make dinner," he suggested, and she giggled.
"Dinner?"
"See? You’re even laughing already," he said with approval. "So, how about I start by showing you around, then after that you go in and have a cold shower and watch me cook for you?"
"Or you can show me around then we can prepare dinner together and put Josh to bed so we shower together?" She suggested, and a naughty gleam lit up Jamal’s eyes.
"Really?"
She grinned and nodded. "Yeah. I know how tough it was for you the other night. Now we don’t have to worry about being heard," she said, and Jamal chuckled.
"Good thing our room is soundproofed," he said, and she giggled as she leaned forward and brushed her lips over his.
"Jamal, I love you," she said, and he grinned as
"Not as much as I love you," he assured her.
She looked at him for a moment. "There’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you. I’ll tell you tonight."
"What is it?" He asked, and she grinned.
"I’ll tell you tonight. Let’s have a quiet date after Josh goes to sleep," she said, but Jamal wasn’t willing to let it go.
"Is it something good or bad?"
She giggled. "It’s good. I think it’d make you really happy."
"Are you pregnant?" He asked with a teasing smile, and she hollered with laughter.
"We haven’t even had sex yet, how am I supposed to be pregnant?" She asked, and he grinned.
"I dunno. Maybe residual sperm from five years ago?" He asked, and she hit his arm as she laughed.
"Gosh! Quit saying nonsense," she said, laughing.
"Fine. Then tell me. You can’t just leave me hanging," Jamal pleaded.
"Trust me, you’ll like it more if I tell you when we are more relaxed," she assured him.
"Alright. I’ll trust you," Jamal said, and she smiled.
"So, how long have you lived here?" She asked as she looked around the living room.
"I got this place after our meeting five years ago. I wanted to have a nice home to bring you to when I marry you," he said, taking her hand and lifting it to his lips.
"For real?" Abigail asked with a small smile.
"Yeah. It has four bedrooms. One for us, two for our four kids..."
"Four kids?" Abigail gasped before giggling.
"Yeah. Two boys and two girls. Lucky us we have one already. So three to go," he said, and she laughed.
"I’m guessing the last room is for guests?" Abigail asked and Jamal nodded.
"Yeah."
"Speaking about kids," she looked around "Where is Josh?"
"Josh!" Jamal called out.
"Daddy, I’m here in the room," Josh called back from one of the rooms.
They went to find him, "Why are you here?" They asked when they saw him standing by the window in one of the rooms, staring outside.
He laughed. "Bella said I should give you two space sometimes to be alone if I want you to give me a younger brother or sister."
Jamal and Abigail exchanged a look, and they laughed. "That’s thoughtful of you, baby. But we are not in a hurry to give you younger ones yet. We have barely enjoyed our time with you," Abigail said, ruffling his hair.
"We only just reunited. Let us three enjoy our relationship together first," Jamal said, and Josh nodded.
Jamal took one of his hands, and Abigail took the other, and together all three of them left the room and Jamal showed them around the house.
