Stolen Identity: Mute Heiress

Chapter 450: Officially Official

Chapter 450: Officially Official

It didn’t take long before Emily found Dr Loma in the staff lounge, drinking coffee and chatting with two nurses.

Dr Loma brightened immediately when she saw her. "Emily!"

Emily smiled politely. "Can I speak with you privately?" she asked her after exchanging pleasantries with the nurses.

Dr Loma looked surprised by her serious expression. "Sure."

"We were on our way back inside," one of the nurses said, and immediately rose to leave with her colleague.

Once they were alone, Dr Loma folded her arms. "What’s wrong?"

Emily looked directly at her. "I wanted to clear something up."

Dr Loma frowned slightly. "What?"

Emily didn’t beat around the bush. "I’m in a relationship with Callan. He is my boyfriend."

Dr Loma blinked. "What?"

"Callan is my boyfriend," Emily repeated slowly in case she had missed it the first time.

For a moment, Dr Loma simply stared, then realisation slowly crossed her face. "Oh my God."

Emily nodded. "Yeah."

Dr Loma laughed awkwardly. "You never told me."

Emily nodded, then continued calmly. "That’s the reason I’m doing so now. So that what happened yesterday never repeats itself."

Dr Loma opened her mouth. Then closed it again.

Dr Loma looked embarrassed now. "Oh my God. I’m so sorry, Emily. I would never have done any of the stuff I did had I known."

Emily remained quiet.

Dr Loma groaned and covered her face. "I assumed, you know, based on the rumours about him... I just sort of assumed—" she broke off, "Never mind. I’m sorry. It won’t happen again. I wish either of you had said something yesterday. Oh my God."

Emily couldn’t help laughing now.

Dr Loma rubbed her forehead as she laughed helplessly.

"This is so embarrassing. I can’t believe I didn’t even suspect anything. You both must have had a good laugh at my account."

"Not exactly," Emily said, seeing no need to tell her it had caused a bit of misunderstanding between them.

Dr Loma pointed at her. "Why are you so secretive anyway? You should’ve told us he was your boyfriend."

Emily shrugged. "I just did. Now that I’ve passed the message, I’ll be on my way."

Dr Loma sighed. "Fine. Message received."

Emily smiled. "Good. You can pass the message along to the others too. Thanks."

Emily left the lounge feeling much lighter.

One problem solved.

As Emily rounded a corner, she spotted Dan gathering some files.

It looked like he was preparing to leave.

Perfect.

Emily walked over. "Hi."

He looked up immediately and smiled. "Hey."

Emily smiled politely. "Do you have a minute? I want to talk to you."

His smile widened slightly. "About the party? Tell me you have changed your mind."

A day ago, Emily probably would not have paid so much attention to Dan, but now she found herself taking a closer look at him.

Emily folded her arms lightly across her chest. "I told you before. I won’t be coming."

His smile faded slightly, and he sighed dramatically.

"You’re really not giving me a chance to convince you."

Emily smiled politely. "No."

Dan studied her face carefully.

For the first time, she noticed how often he held eye contact and how easily he stepped into people’s personal space.

Had he always been like this? Or had she simply never paid attention before?

Thinking back now, she remembered how he had followed her out of the party that night of the dinner party. And she remembered the other times she’d felt uncomfortable around him but had not thought much about it.

"Is this because of your guardian?" he asked suddenly.

Emily frowned. "My what?"

"Callan. Your cousin."

Emily stared at him. "Cal is my boyfriend, not my cousin."

Dan raised an eyebrow. "Your boyfriend?"

Emily’s expression remained blank. "Yes."

The smile disappeared from his face completely, and silence settled briefly between them.

Then finally, he laughed awkwardly, looking genuinely confused.

"I thought you two were related. And since when did you both get into a relationship? Last I checked, you both hardly got along."

Emily sighed softly. "I don’t believe I owe you or anyone else explanations about my relationship."

His face tightened slightly. "Then why tell me this?"

Because unlike before, she no longer believed his interest in her was completely innocent.

Emily met his eyes calmly. "Because I wanted you to know that I’m in a relationship. So it’s best you move your attention to someone else if you had any ideas about us being together."

Dan looked away briefly. His jaw tightened. Then he nodded. "I understand."

Emily smiled politely. "Thank you."

Dan forced another smile. "I hope you’re happy."

Emily nodded. "I am."

Then she turned and walked away.

The moment she rounded the next corner, she pulled out her phone.

Callan picked up before the second ring.

"Hello, Princess."

A smile immediately appeared on her face. "Hi, Prince Charming."

His voice softened instantly. "You sound happy."

Emily laughed. "I am. I just spoke to both of them."

"You did?" he asked eagerly.

"Yep!"

Callan straightened in his seat. "I didn’t think you would do it so soon."

Callan sounded ridiculously pleased.

Emily smiled. "I figured I’d get to it and get it out of the way."

"So? How did it go?"

Emily leaned against the wall and told him everything.

The conversation with Dr Loma.

Then the conversation with Dan.

By the time she finished, Callan sounded entirely too satisfied with himself.

"So everybody knows now?"

Emily rolled her eyes. "Everybody doesn’t know. Just Dr Loma and Dan."

"Does that mean our relationship is officially official?"

She laughed. "It has always been official."

"Not according to your colleagues."

Emily laughed.

His voice softened slightly. "I like people knowing you’re mine."

Emily’s cheeks warmed. "Callan."

"What? I’m serious."

Emily smiled despite herself. "Well, congratulations."

"Thank you," he said dramatically.

Emily laughed so hard she nearly dropped her phone. "You are so dramatic."

Two nurses walking past looked at her curiously.

Emily quickly lowered her voice. "I need to get to work now."

Callan sighed dramatically. "Now that it’s official, I’m allowed to send you lunch, right?"

"Behave yourself."

"No promises."

"Callan!" She warned.

"I love you."

Her smile softened instantly. "I love you too."

Then she ended the call.

In his office, Callan stared at his phone with a wide smile spread across his face.

They were official.

Everybody knew now.

Maybe not everybody yet. But now that she had told Dr Loma and Dan, he could as well help her tell everyone else.

Then slowly his smile widened when he got the perfect idea on how to do so.
