Chapter 7 – My Angel
A perfect place for the mermaids to live was found on Dark Elf Island. The place, which was the former home and grave of the Ancient Turtle, was repurposed, along with his corpse, to contribute to the mermaids’ new first step. When I think about it, I feel like we’ve done the same thing as the grave robbers.
“Higiii!”
When I woke up and tried to sit up, I felt an intense pain all over my body.
I thought something was wrong, but when I calmed down and thought about it, I immediately understood. It was definitely muscle pain.
My body has become more robust as my level has increased, and I’ve gotten used to the elegant life on a luxury liner, so I haven’t had any muscle pain recently, but as expected, my body was screaming from the intense exercise I did yesterday.
…It’s a nostalgic pain, but it doesn’t make me happy at all.
Now that I understand the situation, I calmly check my body.
Both arms: I feel limp and pain when I try to move them.
Legs: Same as arms.
Abdominal muscles: I feel a painful sensation as if I will cry just by exerting myself.
Pectoral muscles: Same as abdominal muscles.
Back muscles: Same as pectoral muscles.
Neck muscles: I feel a cramp just trying to bend my neck from side to side.
I’m almost completely worn out. My muscles are screaming all over the place. It seems that even though my muscles are getting stronger as the level goes up, I can’t escape muscle soreness when I train as hard as I can.
I guess I’ve been using muscles that I don’t normally use, which is probably the cause of my terrible muscle pain. I’ve heard that swimming is a full-body workout, but I didn’t want to feel that way. I gave myself a good massage in the tub last night, but it seemed to be useless resistance.
I’m glad I took the day off today.
I had declared it a day off before the party because I wanted to give all the male mermaids a hangover and make things vague, but it turned out to be a good thing for me, too.
Now all I have to do is lie in bed and relax until my sore muscles heal, but… there is a problem.
“I have to go to the bathroom…”
I don’t feel like moving, even though I’m in the habit of going to the bathroom when I wake up and feel refreshed.
My bladder still seems to have room, and I still have time before it becomes unbearable, but if I can’t move, I will eventually reach my limit.
If the level-up has made my bladder even stronger, I might be able to bear the muscle pain until it goes away, but I have to do something because it would be miserable if I couldn’t bear it.
I’m really relying on others here. I have a confidant.
“Ines, Ines, I’m sorry, but you have to get up.
Ines, who was sleeping next to me, did not answer. She seemed to be in a deep sleep. I think she will wake up if I scream, but if I scream, it will echo through my whole body. I don’t want that.
“Ines, Ines, please wake up. Ines.”
I fight back the pain in my neck, turn to Ines, and call out to her in a voice that is just loud enough to keep the pain at bay.
“Uh-uh.”
Oh, she answers. Almost there.
“Ines, wake up. Ines.”
“Ugh… Master… what, it hurts… I’m completely hungover. Master, I’m sorry, but let me sleep a little more…”
Ines, who looks sick, is about to fall asleep again. But I don’t want her to sleep again. I want her to carry me to the bathroom before she falls asleep.
“N-no, Ines, don’t go back to sleep, please.”
“I can’t… I have a headache; please be quiet…”
Ines fell asleep without listening to my pleas. I called out to her again, but she didn’t even answer. I wonder what the word “slave” means.
I don’t know what to expect from Ines anymore. If Felicia were here, she would take care of me without any problem, but unfortunately, she is back home.
What a tragic mistake. I had been trying to get the male mermaids drunk with the expensive alcohol, but I should never have thought of getting carried away and crushing Ines, who was in a bit of a bad mood, along with me…
Strong regrets came up, but regrets are not the first thing to go. Let’s face reality and fight for my dignity.
In this case, I have no choice but to fight the pain and go to the bathroom with all my strength.
I couldn’t. What is this? Is the muscle pain so bad that I can’t move much when it gets worse?
It hurts when I strain, and when I try to hold it in and strain, I feel like I’m going to cramp up. I can’t even force myself to do it because if any part of my body cramps up under the current circumstances, I won’t be able to get it back. What am I going to do?
Hopelessness is running through my mind. Peeing at my age is really embarrassing. I must do something about it…
Various ideas go through my mind, and they all end up dead. At the moment, the most promising idea is to summon a rubber boat and throw it in there to destroy the evidence, but that’s also embarrassing, so I’d like to avoid that if possible.
Somehow, I don’t want the gods to see me and use it as a story for the future.
In such a helpless situation, an angel appeared before me.
“…Wataru… Meal…”
My archangel Rimu appeared. I guess he was worried that I would not move when it was time for breakfast, so he came to check on me. He is too cute.
Yeah, I know! I should ask Rimu to run an errand for me. Claretta-san can use recovery magic, and since she probably didn’t drink until she was hungover, she can help me out.
Every time I think of a good idea, another good idea comes to mind. Instead of asking Rimu for help, I could have summoned Saporabi to help me in the bathroom or brought Claretta-san over.
But I still have a hard time with Saporabi, and if I’m going to get help, I’d rather have Rimu help me.
“Rimu, you know, my body hurts, and I can’t move. Can you go get Claretta-san?”
If it’s Claretta-san’s recovery magic, she should be able to help me move. Is there such a thing as a healing spell for sore muscles? I don’t think so, but I don’t care as long as I can get away from the pain.
“…Hurt… Rimu will heal you…”
“Huh?”
A confident thought flew out of Rimu. I feel like he’s kind of puffing out his chest. What does he mean?
Ah… come to think of it, Rimu has a healing magic skill. I’ve rarely seen him use it because no one gets hurt, but…
I feel a little uncomfortable, but I have no objection to putting myself at risk for Rimu’s growth. My dignity is on the line, but I’m willing to throw it away for the sake of Rimu.
Well, I’ll keep trying until the last minute…
“Well then, Rimu. Can I get some treatment?”
“Yes…”
As I rolled on the bed with my heart pounding, a light flashed beside me, and Rimu flew in front of me in angel form. It looks like he wants to treat me in angel form. I was literally looking at the angel Rimu, and it was so cute.
Rimu is floating in front of me, flapping and twitching. I wonder if the frequency of the twitching has become faster because he is exerting himself?
A magic circle appeared in front of Rimu’s body, and a soft light poured down from the magic circle as if to envelop me. I wonder if this is healing magic… the light seems to be warmer than I thought.
“…Healed…”
The light faded, and a confident thought flew from Rimu. This seems to indicate that I am healed.
“Thank you, Rimu.”
“…Yes…”
When I tried to move my right hand, I felt a sharp pain.
I can’t say that it’s completely healed… but it’s less painful than it was a few minutes ago, so it’s not without effect. My body felt like it was about two-thirds dead, but now it’s back to half dead.
If possible, I would like to ask for another treatment, but I can’t tell Rimu, who is twitching with satisfaction, that he did his best.
My body feels a bit better, and I’ve got more strength now, so all that’s left is my mind.
I force myself to swallow the groan that’s about to come out and pick myself up with my mind. My whole body aches, but I manage to move. The healing magic is amazing.
“A-all right, after I go to the bathroom, let’s go get something to eat. I’ll be back in a minute.”
“…Eat…”
I really want to finish everything with room service, but if I can move, let’s go out. I’ll distract Rimu with the food and then sneak out to be treated by Claretta-san. So, full recovery!
After using the bathroom and escaping my crisis of dignity, I make my way to the main dining room with Rimu on my head.
It’s a little late for breakfast, but there’s a good chance that Claretta-san is still in the main dining room with Carla-san, who eats well in the morning. If she’s having breakfast elsewhere… I’ll have Saporabi bring her here.
I just noticed that the ship is very quiet. Since Princess Annemarie and the others joined us, it has been quite lively even in the morning, but only mermaids pass by now and then.
It seems that my aim was more than half successful. I guess most of the male mermaids were too hungover to go out, which is probably why it was so quiet. That should make up for my mistake.
My mood is lifted by the success of my plan.
A good trend is coming my way. Arriving at the main dining room, I find my target, Claretta-san, having her after-dinner tea.
“…Eat…”
Rimu, who had dived from above my head with a pop, moved toward Carla-san. I think it would be a lot faster to fly away in angel form, but I wonder if Rimu has some sort of obsession with it?
“Good morning, Wataru.”
“Good morning… Wataru.”
“Good morning… Carla, Claretta.”
I exchanged morning greetings with Carla-san and Claretta-san, who noticed me when Rimu appeared.
By the way, I was the victim of a call-and-response frenzy. I don’t want to put myself on the shelf here, but the sight of Claretta-san looking puzzled at the idea of addressing a man that way is… so wonderful that I could eat three bowls of rice with it. I love it.
I feel even better because I saw something good this morning, but it’s hard to sit in a chair with my body the way it is now.
If I’m not careful, I might not be able to get up, so I order breakfast standing up. Usually, I ask Saporabi to bring it to me for the atmosphere, but this time, I ordered it directly.
Rimu was so engrossed in the food that appeared on the sputtering table that his attention was completely diverted from me.
I step away from the table a bit and beckon Claretta-san to join me, signaling that it’s a secret.
Claretta-san looks curious but quietly gets up from her seat and comes over to me. Okay, now all I have to do is get her to heal in the shadows, and the mission is complete!
…Huh? Somehow, I felt a sense of satisfaction at having done it all, but was it just me escaping muscle pain?
…It’s a holiday today, so no problem. Let’s work hard starting tomorrow.
