Chapter 18 – I Hate This Dungeon
Just when I thought we had finally gotten over the coffee cup ordeal, a trap was set on the pedestal with the castle pass piece at the end, and it exploded in a big way. Alessia-san’s quick decision to get the piece without incident was successful, but she was also lectured for making a risky decision.
A plea for help came from Alessia-san.
…I can’t help Alessia-san, but I’ll at least try my best to divert the conversation for the sake of impressions.
I was just wondering about some things, and it would be a perfect topic for a diversion.
“By the way, isn’t it too much to cause such a big explosion all of a sudden? I was under the impression that dungeons didn’t have so many horrible traps in the beginning…”
The first attraction. In other words, the first floor of the dungeon, if you want to describe it in a game.
It may depend on when the dungeon is implemented, but it is a scene where slime and goblins can appear as enemies.
It would be impossible to have a big explosion in a tutorial setting like this.
Well, that’s what I think because I entered the dungeon for the first time. It’s possible that the game and reality are different or that this is a difficult dungeon with a last boss class, but even so, I think it’s terrible.
“Wataru’s right; this dungeon is a bit strange.”
“Yes, dungeons always have traps, but this many traps so close to the entrance is unusual. Or was it normal at the time this dungeon was created?”
Dorothea-san and Ilma-san answered my question. Behind them, Alessia-san gave me an appreciative look, so it seems I’ve made a good impression.
“Marina, what about the traps… No, that’s fine. We’ll take a little break so you can get some rest.”
Dorothea-san tried to confirm something with Marina-san, but seeing that she still looked a bit pale, she decided to leave it for later.
Carla-san is not in perfect condition either and will need a break.
“I’d like to take a break, but first, we have to collect the drop items.”
Marina-san understands that she is not in good physical condition, but it is necessary to collect the dropped items.
For a moment, I thought there was no such thing as a drop item as if it were not a game, but then I remembered how many flying cats had disappeared.
I looked at the coffee cup and saw a number of items on the ground that were not there before the ordeal. Were they the drop items?
I had completely forgotten about them since the clown dragon’s speech and lecture to Alessia-san started after the big explosion, but Marina-san was right; we should secure them first.
It would be a waste if the dungeon decided that we didn’t pick them up and absorbed them.
“…Marina. One more time, please.”
“Yes.”
Alessia-san might have made the same decision as me and asked Marina-san to do some extra work.
I could have just picked up the drop items myself, but I can’t help but suspect that even that might be a trap in this incomprehensible dungeon.
Marina-san is having a hard time.
Marina-san checked for traps, but this time, there were none, so we all picked up the dropped items and rested for a while.
By the way, the basic drop item was a magic stone, and the item that seemed to be a rare drop was a small keychain of a cat with wings.
I really thought the dungeon was making fun of us, but the item was surprisingly expensive and made of gold or silver.
It would be worth a lot of money if we were to cash it in, and since there is a difference between gold and silver in the rare drop, we can expect to find extremely rare drops made of more precious metals.
The ordeal will bring countless monsters, and we might be able to make a fortune by destroying them.
However, it was a delicate balance that had to be weighed against the dignity of the maiden, and no one suggested that we go through the ordeal again.
Gold and silver can be mined in the mines near the hot spring village, which is a bit disappointing since I was hoping the drop items on Dark Elf Island would be useful.
If the drops from the other attractions are similar, it would be safer to destroy this dungeon. If we can destroy it…
“As Wataru said, this dungeon is extraordinary. It’s not normal for gold and silver to suddenly fall out of the dungeon.”
“But isn’t it reasonable in terms of difficulty? It’s such a tedious ordeal. It’s only worth it if you get something of value. I mean, it’s not worth it, even if it’s gold and silver.”
Ines answers Alessia-san’s words with a sour look on her face. I guess she doesn’t want her virginity to be damaged, even if she gets gold and silver.
For male adventurers who say that vomiting is nothing to worry about, this might be an attraction that has some appeal. I don’t like it, though.
“Whether it’s worth it or not, I think it’s too risky. I wonder if the adventurers of the past were that skilled?”
I see; it is possible that the adventurers were so skilled when this dungeon was created that an ordeal involving the coffee cup would have been a piece of cake.
As expected from Ilma-san, who is also a researcher, she noticed something that I would never have thought of.
However, if that were the case, the danger level of this dungeon would be too high, so I hope it is not true.
The discussion about this dungeon continued, led by Alessia-san, Dorothea-san, Ilma-san, and Ines, all of whom had experience in dungeons.
The discussion went on for a while, and a conclusion was reached.
The conclusion was that… It is so different from an ordinary dungeon that I have no idea what it is.
What is this conclusion? I would like to complain, but I don’t know what I don’t know, so I can’t do anything about it.
I mean, even I, who knows about theme parks, was asked to give my opinion, and I couldn’t give a helpful one, so I’m not qualified to give a comment.
But it can’t be helped. The attractions I know don’t explode.
In the end, we decided to rest today and continue our exploration tomorrow, taking all the time and care we need.
By the way, the piece of the pass was straight on two sides, and the other two sides were uneven, like a jigsaw puzzle.
In other words, at least three or more attractions had to be completed to complete the pass notes.
The thought of six, nine, or more possibilities made my head hurt. Can’t we somehow smash the dungeon along with the castle?
…I wonder if dropping a luxury liner on top of the castle would make the whole thing disappear nice and neat?
***
“I hate this dungeon.”
In the morning, just before I got ready and entered the dungeon, my true feelings unintentionally slipped out of my mouth.
It had been five days since we cleared the coffee cup. Since then, we have cleared an ordeal every day. In other words, we have collected five pieces of the pass.
Looking at the pieces of the pass, it seems that if we collect six, we will be able to complete the challenge, and if we clear one today, we will be able to enter the castle.
Compared to the countless attractions in this theme park, where you have to clear them all to proceed, we might be lucky to only have six.
However, all the attractions are unpleasant ordeals that are mentally draining.
I decided that it would be better than having no information about the attractions, so I challenged myself to a trial similar to the attractions I know on Earth, and the difference between the two further diminished my spirit.
The day after the coffee cup ordeal, we decided to try the Ferris wheel ordeal to be a little safer.
This time, I prepared myself for the possibility of the Ferris wheel spinning at high speed, but the character of the dungeon was beyond my imagination.
Not only was the Ferris wheel spinning at high speed, but it wasn’t even moving. The clown dragon told us that the challenge was to make the wheel spin. I don’t understand.
First, we had to disarm the traps in each room of the Ferris wheel and remove the stoppers. That was easy enough to say, but we had to climb up the giant Ferris wheel by ourselves to get to the room at the top of the wheel. And that’s all of the many rooms.
Of course, even getting to the rooms was not safe. A winged cat that appeared in the coffee cup attraction flew through the air and attacked us.
When we finally reached the room, we were greeted by a trap with a bad characteristic. I could only watch as the traps were set, but Alessia-san and the others had a lot of trouble.
Finally, we disarmed the traps and stoppers in all the rooms. I thought we were all clear, but the Ferris wheel did not move even a little, even though the stoppers were released.
Upon further investigation, we found out that we had to use human power to turn the giant Ferris wheel despite the monster’s obstructions.
This dungeon is crazy, I thought.
I also thought that Alessia-san and the others who had managed to move the giant wheel with ropes were a little crazy.
However, they were unable to turn the wheel, so I was relieved to know that even if they were crazy, it was only a little.
Finally, considering the risk of breaking the Ferris wheel, we managed to make it spin by summoning the Hideaway on top of one of the rooms.
In the end, the Hideaway did not cause a single scratch on the Ferris wheel, but I wanted to test it a bit to see what would have happened if I had summoned a ferry or a luxury liner.
I would have tried it if there hadn’t been a tit or something in the dungeon, but as expected, I couldn’t do such a reckless thing after the ordeal, so I had to give up.
The calm Marina-san must have been very dissatisfied with this dungeon because she flippantly pushed to summon the luxury liner.
By the way, the pedestal that appeared after the ordeal was over had a trap, as it should have. I wish such a dungeon would be destroyed.
