Chapter 25 – Unexpected Ending
Homura, one of the four Heavenly Kings of the Demon King. I thought he was all bark and no bite, but I was a little surprised to find that he was more powerful than I expected. The first opponent of the Four Heavenly Kings is usually a weak dog, but it is difficult to read the atmosphere in this dungeon.
After defeating Homura, we drank, ate, and made a lot of noise in the Hideaway to further stir up the dungeon.
However, it seemed to have no effect on the agitation, and the next day, the day after that, and the day after that, the peaceful, just-enjoyable routine was repeated.
It was all good because it was fun, but we decided to get out of the dungeon and see what would happen.
Then it was a week. Ten days after defeating Homura, we were faced with a problem.
“How did it go, Aletssia-san?”
I asked with a hint of hope as Alessia-san and the others returned from their visit to check on the dungeon.
Well, I understand that it is hopeless because the expressions of Alessia-san and the others are dull, but I hope that things will change, even if for the worse because it is getting to be a nuisance.
“Not good. No change today.”
“I see.”
It was no good, huh?
Now, the roller coaster has been broken for about ten days and has not been repaired.
If the roller coaster hadn’t been broken, it wouldn’t have mattered if it stayed broken. We just had to try another ordeal.
But the roller coaster is different. It is the final ordeal, and it is an important ordeal, so you cannot move on without clearing it.
That ordeal will not be restored.
If something is broken in a dungeon, it will usually be repaired within a few hours at the earliest or the next day at the latest, with no notice.
However, it is said that if there is a person in the broken part, it will not be restored, so we gave up stirring up the situation and left the dungeon.
We entered the dungeon the next day, thinking that the roller coaster would have been restored by now, but it was not.
We gave up that day and left the dungeon, thinking that it might take a long time because the dungeon was dormant.
The next day, the roller coaster had not been restored. The day after that, and the day after that… eventually, a week passed, and the roller coaster was still not restored.
Thinking that there might be some other condition for the restoration, we tried to challenge other ordeals, but the clown dragon that had appeared in every ordeal did not appear, and not a single monster appeared when we broke into the facility.
When we tried to enter the castle, everything was locked and unresponsive.
“Are we somehow being completely ignored by the dungeon? Could it be that the dungeon was sulking because we were pestering it too much… haha, that’s impossible, isn’t it?”
Even if the dungeon had a will, there is no way it would sulk and not restore the dungeon’s facilities since it is not a child.
“Of course not, there’s no way it wouldn’t reinstate the ordeal for such a ridiculous reason. Right, Ilma?”
Alessia-san, the one who initiated the harassment plan, agrees with my words, and she calls out to Ilma-san as if clinging to her.
Although she denies it in her words, Alessia-san may think it was too much.
“There’s more in the dungeon that we haven’t figured out yet. So I can’t rule out the possibility that the dungeon was sulking.”
Seriously?
“Does that mean we can’t try this dungeon anymore?”
Are you saying that we are banned from the dungeon?
Huh? I don’t really like this dungeon, so that’s fine with me… No, that would be a disaster for the Dark Elf Island, so that’s not good.
I’d like to make this annoying dungeon a recurring dungeon if possible.
“Hmm, that’s a possibility, but I think something else is more likely.”
“What do you mean?”
If there’s a chance to destroy it, I’m all for it.
“The dungeon thinks it doesn’t stand a chance now, so it has begun to accumulate power to defeat us. Until that power builds up, doesn’t that mean that it won’t restore the facility so that we can’t continue?”
“Huh? Is that possible? If that were the case, no one would be able to defeat the dungeon.”
If it looks like the dungeon is going to be lost, it will stay until it becomes winnable. That’s the right choice, but what about it as a dungeon? That’s cheating.
“There are dungeons that have been conquered, so I don’t think it applies to all of them. But in this case, I think it’s possible.”
I don’t get it. Cheating is not good, right? Because it’s a cheat.
“I don’t understand. Ilma, please explain.”
Thank God I’m not the only one who doesn’t get it.
“It’s going to be a little long, is that okay?”
“Yeah, there’s nothing to do anyway, so just tell me more about it.”
At Alessia-san’s request, Ilma-san’s dungeon class was to be held in a hurry.
It’s been a long time since I attended a class, and I’m not sure I’ll be able to understand it properly.
***
I managed to understand it.
And I think Ilma-san’s hypothesis seems to be the right one.
There are limits to what you can do in the dungeon.
It seems that this is almost a certainty.
The reason for this belief is derived from the fact that senseless or large-scale destruction in a dungeon will result in repercussions.
Only after such an act occurs will the dungeon retaliate in a strong way, but in a normal attack, a dungeon would not send a horde of monsters into battle if it knew it would be destroyed.
Even though I know it would help us.
So, speculation is that if the attacker of a dungeon breaks a rule, then the restrictions of the dungeon will be loosened as well.
That makes some sense.
If they can send monsters in randomly, no one can attack the dungeon, right?
And then there is the act of the dungeon not restoring the facilities.
Ilma-san had a hypothesis about this as well.
She said that the fact that we survived the group of monsters might have loosened the restrictions even more. That seems to be the case.
Ilma-san reminded us that this is really just a hypothesis because there are no other examples, but it is certainly a possibility.
The fact that there are no other examples is subtle, but since it is supposed to be a miracle to survive the effects of the dungeon, it is only natural that there are no other examples.
And even if you miraculously survive, it is impossible to escape without getting hurt or losing anything unless you are a cheat like us.
Most people will be wiped out. And even if you miraculously survived, you would be badly injured, lose most of your friends, and your party would be in a state of total destruction.
When that happens, Ilma-san expects the dungeon’s revenge to be complete.
In our case, we were unharmed; we stirred up the dungeon, massacred the monsters, and even killed one of the Four Heavenly Kings.
On top of that, we didn’t escape from the dungeon, and we even caused more trouble.
Yes, there is a good chance that the restrictions, if any, will be relaxed. I mean, isn’t it almost certain?
“So you’re saying that the next time the facility is restored, the dungeon will decide it’s ready to kill us?”
“That’s just a theory.”
“Let’s see, since the Ship Summoning has a ridiculous performance in terms of defense, doesn’t that mean that it will never finish preparing the dungeon for the rest of our lives?”
How can the dungeon easily break through the barriers that prevent the gods from attacking en masse? If it can do that, it would mean that the dungeon is stronger than a group of gods, right?
“It’s not a question of whether or not it can kill us in reality. If the dungeon decides that it can kill us, then I believe that it will be restored.”
I see; the dungeon doesn’t know that Ship Summoning can prevent a group of gods from attacking. If it thought it could do it by increasing the power of its attack, it would probably challenge us by increasing the power of its attack to the limit.
…Still, I don’t think the Ship Summoning barrier will be broken.
Hmm? Something very uncharacteristic came to mind.
A dungeon full of life that will attack us to the limit to kill us. Me, intercepting it with Ship Summoning.
As a result, we survived without a scratch, and I laughed out loud.
It seems I can make the dungeon that pisses me off go crazy, but it’s the same pattern as Homura. Let’s hope the dungeon is more elaborate.
For some reason, I feel like I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s not let our guard down because, at times like this, mistakes are often made, and it can be a painful experience.
“That means we can’t capture the dungeon until the preparations are finished, right? When will the preparations be finished?”
Ines was right, there was no telling how long we would have to wait.
“Well?”
Ilma-san shrugged as if she had her hands full.
Even Ilma-san can’t seem to decipher the dungeon plans. Well, that’s only natural. It would be scarier if she could.
“It’s a problem, isn’t it? Wouldn’t there be some kind of reaction if Master emptied the theme park?”
Ines started to say something disturbing.
“It’s not impossible, but… would it be okay to do that?”
Will the constant summoning of luxury liners be enough to destroy, if not clear, the area? If there is no risk, I have no objection…
“No. It’s just a crazy situation, and I can’t imagine what would happen if we got any more reckless.”
I know, right?
“Then what are we going to do?”
I really don’t know. I don’t mind taking it easy, but it’s hard to just stand by and not know what’s going to happen.
“The only way is to come back periodically to check on the situation. Or we could offer a reward and ask one of the dark elves to keep an eye on things.”
“Well, that’s the only way. In the meantime, let’s go back to the dark elf village and ask the village chief to send someone from the village. If the people change, maybe there will be a reaction. Also, Wataru, can you provide supplies and create an environment for the dark elves to live in?”
Alessia-san made a decision based on Ilma-san’s words. Well, it seems like there’s no other way, so it can’t be helped, can it?
“I understand.”
We’ll ask the dark elves to do some strange work, and we’ll make sure to set up a perfect environment.
We should have at least two tents, right? No, we’ll add another tent because it’s better to have more space.
Also, it would be better to have some board games and some fishing equipment since it is near the sea. Otherwise, it would be boring.
The food will be all retort pouches and instant stuff, but I’ll make sure to prepare a wide variety.
Yes, if I prepare this much food, they should be free from boredom for a while.
“Master, if it’s that complete, I’m afraid we’ll be flooded with applicants…”
“Really?”
Felicia looks worried.
“But, well, better fun than hardship.”
Even those of us who took it easy on the Hideaway got bored, so this should be acceptable.
“Well, it would be a problem if the dungeon guard was neglected, but the dark elves are very serious about it, so I’m sure it’ll be fine. Just be sure to warn the village chief, just in case. Well, let’s go back then.”
With a single word from Alessia-san, it was decided that my first dungeon exploration would be interrupted mid-sentence.
I’m feeling a bit sluggish, but I guess it can’t be helped under the circumstances. Let’s go back.
Huh? By the way, wasn’t the story that the princess was kidnapped and we had to rescue her?
…What happens to the kidnapped princess?
Well, I guess the princess is part of the dungeon, and the next time we come to the dungeon, she will remain kidnapped and in good health.
If I get a chance, I will try my best to rescue her, so please wait for me. Maybe…
