Chapter 4 – Motivated Saporabi

It was supposed to be a vacation, but I was presented with a proposal from Saporabi, and although it is only a trial, Saporabi’s work style reform will be implemented. Saporabi’s vacation went smoothly without any major incidents, but the trial pre-opening was a shock from the beginning. Unlike a vacation, the pre-opening is likely to be eventful.

After breakfast, we continue our tour of the Chateau.

Let’s start with the atrium.

The atrium is the symbol of the Chateau. It has a high ceiling, and in the middle, there is a cool-looking object that I don’t quite understand, and the stairs are glittering.

“Hmm, it feels a little more lively, but otherwise, it doesn’t seem much different.”

“Master, did you give the Saporabi permission just to manage the shop?”

“…That’s right.”

Felicia’s sharp remark made me realize my mistake. I hadn’t given Saporabi permission to manage the atrium, so nothing would change.

Hmm, I guess I screwed up a little. I should have given them permission for the parade. Then, they would have shown us a different parade than before.

…I guess I’ll just watch the parade with Marina-san and Camille-san. I’ll let Saporabi know later.

“As for the shop… Let’s go to the promenade.”

That place is much more fashionable, but it’s like a shopping district, so we should be able to see the changes clearly.

When I go to the promenade, I feel a strong sense of life that I hadn’t noticed before. Willpower is important.

Other than that, I don’t feel much of a difference so far.

Of course, it’s obvious that sale banners and discount signs wouldn’t fit on a luxury liner.

Hmm, there are quite a few restaurants here that charge for food, but Saporabi waits patiently in front of the restaurants where they cook in front of you.

They used to come only when I called them, so this is a bit different. But since we’re the only passengers on this luxury liner, it’s too sad to make them wait like this for customers who won’t even come.

If I had thought they didn’t have any emotions, I could have accepted them as robotic staff, which occasionally exist in Japan, but now that I know they’re quite expressive, I can’t just leave them alone.

Maybe we should suggest that they don’t have to stay in the store all the time, but instead, be stationed when we’re likely to use the service and take breaks otherwise.

I’ll write down the points to discuss later and continue to explore.

“Ines, Felicia, any other differences besides the increased energy?”

We’ve checked a few shops, but there are no noticeable differences at first glance. It’s only been a day since yesterday, so maybe they’re not fully prepared yet.

“Master, there wasn’t much change, but there was a section labeled ‘Manager’s Recommendations’ on the cash register.”

“Huh? Really? …Manager’s Recommendations?”

The shops on the luxury liners are brand-name stores, but… Well, let’s have a look.

I also appointed the staff, but I don’t remember appointing a manager.

“…Could this be a recommendation aimed at us?”

Saporabi nodded.

The store we entered this time had relatively casual items, but the recommended corner had items that Ines, Felicia, and I would like.

We are the only ones here now, but I have a feeling that there will be more items in the recommended section once we reunite with Alessia-san and the others.

Maybe they look at statistics and things like that when it comes to setting up the recommended section in the Castle, which gets a lot of customers.

That’s kind of interesting.

For lunch, we decided on a steakhouse with a variety of meat dishes, as Rimu requested.

“Huh? You can order the doneness level in more detail?”

Until now, the doneness levels for steak were rare, medium rare, medium, medium well, and well done.

I didn’t even think there were more options, but if it can be adjusted further, I’ll give it a try.

“Um, can you cook it somewhere between rare and medium rare?”

Saporabi nods. It seems they can.

For me, rare is too rare, and medium rare is a little too well done. If this can be adjusted, my life of luxury liner meat will be even more enjoyable.

I’m sure if I asked for something like blue or blue rare, they’d be able to answer.

“Oh, Rimu and Pent like meat that’s closer to raw, right?”

“…Rimu, like everything…”

“…Shuu…”

Did Rimu like everything? It would be more accurate to say that he didn’t dislike anything, and based on my observations, there is no doubt that Rimu and Pent enjoy rare meat.

“Give Rimu and Pent blue rare steaks.”

Saporabi nods understandingly.

The curious Ines shows interest in the cooking temperature, which she’s never heard of before, but loses interest as soon as she hears about it. Ines prefers medium.

That’s surprising because she’s a tiger-type beast-man, and you’d think she’d like rare meat.

The steak was very satisfying.

Being able to adjust the cooking level more precisely is a big plus. Rimu and Pent loved the blue rare, and it proved that my observations were correct—great satisfaction.

I was a little worried about how it would turn out, but liberating the Saporabi’s consciousness might not be so bad after all.

Well, this afternoon, I’m going to the spa, relaxing by the pool, and finishing off with teppanyaki.

It’s a relaxed inspection, but Camille-san will be handling the details, so I’ll just have to make general assessments.

It’s nice to have someone to rely on.

***

The inspection of the Chateau was completed without incident.

The spa services and techniques have improved, and although the pool is the same as always, snacks are now delivered from the poolside shop, and the teppanyaki performance by the Saporabi was outstanding.

“I think it’s good that the Saporabi are aware of their work, but what do you all think?”

“They are very attentive and provide various services, so I think it’s good.”

Yes, I don’t know if it’s my influence, but Saporabi’s service is very Japanese and very considerate.

I have the image that overseas service workers don’t do anything extra and just stick to their jobs, but I prefer the more attentive service here.

“The current Saporabi-chans are cuter.”

“Saporabi is fun…”

“…Shuu…”

My companions also seem to have a good impression. I think we can look at this positively.

I look at the three Saporabis sitting on the sofa in front of me. These three Saporabis are the ones who came to give a presentation on the first day of the vacation, and now they are waiting with bated breath for my decision.

“For now, we’ve cleared the first hurdle. We want you to continue working with your consciousness unlocked.”

“””Puuu!”””

The Saporabis cheer and raise their voices in joy. It’s scary that I find them cute, even though I don’t feel comfortable around them.

“But this is just the first hurdle.”

What do you mean? The Saporabis look at me as if to ask.

“Even if I give you permission, you can’t work on the Castle in your current state. The next step is Camille-san’s evaluation. If you pass, you’ll be able to work on the Castle with your consciousness unlocked and entertain many customers. You’ll also be able to discuss which ship you want to work on.”

Since I’m the owner of both the ship and the Saporabis, you may wonder why Camille-san’s evaluation is necessary, but when it comes to entertaining customers, a strict evaluation is necessary.

“””Puuu!”””

The Saporabis stand up with determination, their eyes burning. Well, “stand up” might not be the right expression—they are more like sliding off the sofa.

“You’re motivated, aren’t you?”

The Saporabis nod in unison.

“Then think about what you can do to entertain Camille-san. I wish you well.”

The Saporabis leave the room with determination. They don’t forget to bow as they leave, so they seem to have passed the etiquette test.

“So, Master, the Saporabis have free will in our living space, right?”

Ines asks with a slightly awkward expression. She liked the Saporabis, though not as much as Felicia, so what’s wrong?

“That’s the plan, but is there a problem?”

“While you were exploring the ship, you went to the casino, right?”

I didn’t gamble, but I went to check it out. The Saporabis, dressed in bow-tie dealer outfits, were livening up the casino.

“You may not have noticed, but the Saporabis were looking at me as if I were prey.”

Oh, so Ines is also recognized as easy prey by the Saporabis.

Unlike a regular casino, it doesn’t seek profits, but perhaps the Saporabis have developed a desire to seek profits as dealers.

“Anyway, no borrowing money. If you’re upset, don’t go, or just win. Felicia, don’t lend money to Ines either.”

“Yes.”

“Hey, both you and Felicia talk as if I’m going to lose. Why?”

“Why are you asking me? It’s obvious, isn’t it?”

Felicia and I exchange looks and nod. Of course, Ines doesn’t always lose.

In fact, she often wins. On those days, she’s all smiles, so we know.

But in the end, she always loses.

She gets carried away with her winnings and ends up losing all the money she has earned, along with her original pocket money. On days like that, she’s depressed, so Felicia and I know.

“Fine! Then I’ll show you that I don’t lose!”

Ines stormed out of the room.

“…Instead of being angry, she just wanted to go to the casino, right?”

“Yes. She was in fight mode when she left the room. She probably wanted to prove to the Saporabi-chans that she was strong.”

Is it the thrill of challenging a strong opponent? I don’t understand it, but I guess Ines is also a tiger.

…When Ines came back at night, she looked like she was going to cry.
