Chapter 1144: Inspectors

When the person from the Array of Stars saw Kyle and Sebastian, her eyes widened. Almost immediately, a feeling of threat washed over her.

Her job was to inspect suspicious but powerful individuals. In order to do this job, one needed a high Realm since suspicious people might turn out to be aggressive and dangerous. As a Four-Infused Ascendant, almost nobody in the Main Dimension could threaten her. She was always the person in charge.

Most of the cases she was called to involved unknown Sages or Spirit Lords, but she was occasionally called to inspect Ascendants. As a Four-Infused Ascendant, she could handle most Ascendants. Even if the other party were a Major Ascendant, she could still send a message to her leaders to ask for backup.

However, when she saw that both Ascendants had Avatars, she became terrified. Sure, it was rare for any of the suspicious individuals to attack, but it wasn't unheard of.

The fact that the two Ascendants had Avatars was terrifying to her since this meant that both of them were Fulfilled Ascendants. Not only were they three levels above her, but they also had several powerful Laws. Even more, due to their Avatars, they outnumbered her.

Her first instinct was to send an infuriated voice transmission to the Head. Why the fuck hadn't this guy mentioned that these Ascendants had Avatars?! However, she knew that Fulfilled Ascendants could see through all voice transmissions, which was why she didn't scream at the Head.

She knew that she couldn't take charge of this situation with her own power. In fact, it was even possible that these two Ascendants were actually Immortals, which would be even worse.

"These Teleportation Formation Arrays are property of the Array of Stars," she spoke with a friendly but firm tone. Even though she was much weaker than the two Ascendants, she still represented the Array of Stars, which was why she couldn't act like a pushover.

"We know," Kyle answered, "we just want to use it. Do whatever checks you feel are necessary. If we wanted to break the rules, we could have broken them."

The Ascendant took a deep, covert breath. She knew that she couldn't call for backup without the two Ascendants noticing, since they had already undergone their Fusion. This put her in front of a difficult choice. Should she try to handle the situation by herself, or should she call for backup, potentially angering the two suspicious individuals?

Her mind ran through countless possibilities, and in the end, she made a decision.

"While I have the power to grant you permission, I must admit that I lack the power to conduct an investigation that would satisfy my superiors. At this point, you may choose to leave without any negative consequences. If you still wish to use the Teleportation Formation Array, I must call for an Immortal Inspector."

If these two Ascendants were actually Immortals, they would definitely drop the matter and leave. After all, they weren't supposed to be in the Main Dimension. By handling it this way, she could protect her life while still following the rules.

"You may call the Immortal Inspector," Sebastian said calmly. "We're not Immortals yet."

The Inspector suppressed a sigh of relief. This meant that she didn't need to solve the problem anymore since somebody else would take care of it.

"Then, please be patient as I call for the Immortal Inspector," she said.

In the next moment, she used her Communicator to send a message to the Chief Overseer of her branch. While Kyle and Sebastian could sense the transmission, they couldn't decipher it since it was heavily encrypted.

The message reached the Avatar of the local Chief Overseer. To become a Chief Overseer, one had to have three Avatars. Being a Chief Overseer paid very well, since the job required two dedicated Avatars. One was in the local branch, in the Main Dimension, while the other was in the headquarters of the Array of Stars in the Immortal Dimension. The third Avatar would be free to do whatever it wanted. Most of the time, it simply comprehended Laws.

The Avatar in the headquarters sent a message to one of the leaders of the Immortal Inspectors. The leader forwarded the message to someone in their squad, who started teleporting rapidly after descending to the Main Dimension. While there were Teleportation Formation Arrays in the Immortal Dimension, using them was exponentially more costly.

The Immortal Dimension used the True Primordial Force Laws, and breaking them was unimaginably hard. These Teleportation Formation Arrays were only used in special and important circumstances. These circumstances included an incoming attack by the Cult of Final Fate, important diplomatic meetings, or when one of their Immortals died. Inspecting a couple of Ascendants in the Main Dimension was not important.

Sadly, the Teleportation Formation Arrays in the Main Dimension could only teleport an Immortal exactly once. They weren't powerful enough to teleport an Immortal, but by overcharging them and consuming their entire existence, they could forcefully catapult an Immortal to the destination. Of course, that would completely destroy the Teleportation Formation Array, but in an emergency, having this option was still better than not having it.

As the Immortal Inspector teleported through the Main Dimension, he was noticed by a couple of safeguards, who were designed to scan for rogue Immortals. Yet, when the safeguards scanned the symbol on his chest, they ignored him.

The symbol depicted a lightning bolt that struck the ground, breaking it into pieces. This was the universal symbol for Immortals with permission to enter the Main Dimension. There were dedicated Planet Systems where any Immortal could enter the Main Dimension to visit family, talk to their subservient Organizations, and so on, but the Immortals were not allowed to leave these Planet Systems. Only someone with such a symbol was allowed to freely traverse the Main Dimension.

Of course, while the safeguards didn't sound an alert, they still made a record of the Immortal's movements.

While the Immortal Inspector hadn't been that far away, he also hadn't been very close. Despite his impressive speed, he still needed about two minutes to get to his destination. Naturally, in two minutes, many things could have happened, but the local Inspector had only assigned a priority of three to the call.

Priority four meant that it was not time critical and that the visit would essentially just be a formality. Priority three meant that the Immortal Inspector was actually needed but that there was no real danger. Priority two represented potential danger, and the overcharge function of the normal Teleportation Formation Arrays would become available. Priority one meant that the Inspector believed that they were about to die. In this case, even the Immortal Teleportation Formation Array might be activated.

Of course, needlessly assigning a high priority to a call could have devastating consequences. The Immortal Inspector was required to make a special report for any priority one and two calls.

Finally, after a long journey, the Immortal Inspector arrived in front of Kyle and Sebastian, who waited patiently.

When the two sides saw each other, they both became mildly surprised by the other side's powers.
