Chapter 1016: Nie Zhulong; The Judicial Officer

Chapter 1016: Nie Zhulong; The Judicial Officer

The next day… At the sunrise…

Rumble!

A group of the Nie Family’s strongest people, led by their patriarch, headed out of the Nie Estate.

People had already gotten the wind of what happened last night, so there were many already gathered on the way from the Nie family estate to the Judicial Office of the outer region.

As they watched the Nie family march out with a dark look on their faces, the crowd erupted into an excited commotion. They didn’t care about who had died or whether the Nie family would destroy the Gu family, they only cared about watching a good spectacle.

To this end, they didn’t forget to say some inflammatory things such as:

“How dare a mere Gu kid kill the Young Master Nie?! Does he not fear the Nie family?”

“The Nie family has to teach the Gu family a painful lesson or people would begin to take them lightly.”

“Still, the Nie family is too cowardly. If that Gu kid had killed any other family’s young master, they wouldn’t have waited until the morning to get revenge, nor would they have been going to ask Judicial Officer’s permission.”

“What are you saying? If they had attacked the Gu family without his permission, they would have been punished?”

“What punished? They could have just paid some Silver as compensation. But heh, it seems the Nie family is too greedy. They didn’t want to pay any money and instead chose to wait. Young Master Nie and those two elders must be ashamed of being the members of the Nie Family…”

Patriarch Nie and others’ expressions turned darker when they heard these comments and the fury boiling in their chests blazed even hotter.

Soon they arrived before the Judicial Office.

“Halt!” The guards stopped them.

The Nie family’s procession stopped.

“I’m Nie Zhulong. I need to meet with the Judicial Officer to inform him of a grave crime committed against my family.” Patriarch Nie informed them, his imposing aura of the Bone Tempering flaring outwards.

The guards were merely early Blood Condensation cultivators but they didn’t get intimidated and indifferently stared at him. Seeing this, Nie Zhulong’s expression mellowed out a bit and his posture became a bit less imposing.

The guards nodded and stepped aside, “Go in.”

Nie Zhulong entered the building while the first elder and others stayed out.

The guards looked at the first elder and asked, “I heard your Young Master and two elders were killed?”

A cold glint flashed in the First Elder’s eyes. They clearly knew who they were, but they still forced their patriarch to introduce and humble himself.

Still, he dared not not answer because not only did they had the backing of the Judicial Officer and thus the City Lord Mansion’s, they themselves were from cultivation families, more powerful than theirs.

“Yes, it happened.” He grunted.

“Hm? Speak like a human being. I didn’t understand what you said.” One of the duo said, raising his brows at him.

“You!” The first elder’s temper flared but before he could say anything, the second elders placed her hand on his shoulder, “Calm down.”

She then looked at the guards and said in a clear and loud voice, “That’s correct. Our young master and the two elders were murdered last night by someone from the Gu family. Also, may I know if you are from the Zeng family? I heard one of your peak Blood Condensation elders was killed recently. My condolences! If you don’t mind me asking, how did he die?”

Instantly, the Zeng family’s guy’s face darkened and he snorted coldly in lieu of answering.

The crowd around them stirred and began whispering among themselves.

“Hey, why don’t I know the Zeng family’s lost an Peak Blood Condensation Elder?”

“It’s because they suppressed the news. I’m surprised the Nie family knows about it.”

“They suppressed it, why?”

“Hehe, that’s the interesting part. He had tried infiltrating the Mi Family to steal something from the Patriarch Mi, thinking he would get unnoticed because the Mi family is busy trying to move up into the Middle City and he had bribed some servants there. But he ended up getting caught and Patriarch Mi executed him on the spot.”

“He deserved it then.”

“Yeah, he did. But does anyone know what he wanted to steal?”

“No idea, maybe we should ask this dog of the Judicial Officer…”

“Shhh, keep quiet, he might bite you.”

“Haha!…”

The Zeng family guy’s face turned ugly and he glared at the Second Elder, “Good, good. I’ll remember you.”

The Second Elder acted as though she hadn’t heard him.

Inside the building, Nie Zhulong entered the Judicial Officer’s office after passing through several checkpoints.

The Judicial Officer was a man with a sallow complexion, sunken eyes and drooping shoulders. Anyone who saw him would think he was sick but he wasn’t. The reason behind it was something very few people knew and they were too afraid to speak of it recklessly.

“Greetings, Respected Judicial Officer.” Nie Zhulong bowed with respect.

The Judicial Officer raised his head from the document he was reading and looked at him, “You are the Nie family’s leader?”

“Yes, Milord.” Nie Zhulong secretly gulped, feeling a bit uneasy.

He had heard a rumor that one should do one’s best to not get noticed by the Judicial Officer. He didn’t know whether it was because no one was really innocent and had committed some crime or other or because of some other reasons entirely…

“Hmm.” The judicial officer thoughtfully hummed and said, “I heard what happened. Tell me what you are here for.”

Nie Zhulong took a deep breath and ignoring his unease, he said, “I want Milord’s permission to exact revenge and kill the murderers of my son and elders.”

“I see.” The Judicial Officer hummed, then asked with interest, “And what about that Golden Book? What are your thoughts about it?”

Ba-Dum!

Nie Zhulong’s heart skipped a beat.

“I-I have no thoughts about it, Milord.” He said, dipping his head lower.

“Oh, think again.” He heard the Judicial Officer’s voice and gritted his teeth, “I would give it to Milord for granting me the favor of exacting revenge for my son.”

“Hmm.” The Judicial Officer hummed softly, then said, “That Gu family… it should not be annihilated before the time granted by the City Lord Mansion is over. You understand what I mean?”

“I do, Milord.” Nie Zhulong nodded. A short while later, he walked out of the office, his eyes glinting with a much denser murderous intent than when he had seen his son’s decapitated corpse.

‘Gu Family… You truly deserve death…’

Tap! Tap! Tap!

After Nie Zhulong left, the Judicial Officer tapped the table for a while, deep in thought.

He then asked, “Are you sure that the Golden Book is a Sky Ascension level treasure?”

A shadowy figure materialized behind him and a hoarse voice sounded, “Yes. Why? You have thoughts about it?”

The Judicial Officer took a deep breath and shook his head, “No. I just want you to do what you promised me when I give you that book.”

Then his expression hardened, “If you dare renege, I will destroy you no matter what price I have to pay.”

“Heh.” The shadowy figure scoffed but said, “Don’t worry. I’m not like you lowly humans who goes back on their words without a second thought.”

As these words sounded in the Judicial Officer’s ears, the shadowy figure disappeared without a trace.

“Lowly humans, huh?” The Judicial Officer muttered under his breath.
