Max checked his status screen while taking a bath in Zhao Ziyan’s bathroom. He had invited her to bathe with him but she had refused. He didn’t insist either because he didn’t really want her to join him.
Why?
Because if she had, she would have seen the wounds all over his body and gotten worried. This was also why he hadn’t taken his robes off while having sex with her and since most of the wounds had already closed, the pain wasn’t too much for him to bear so he didn’t let it show on his face even when the wounds were stretched during the sex or when she touched them.
He stared in his reflection in the mirror as he touched a comparatively large wound on his chest.
“System, can’t you use the Lust Points to heal me?” He asked. The Lust Points were the Nascent Energy which had incredible healing power. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to use it on his own so he had no choice but to ask the system to do it instead.
However…
[The system can help you only through the quests’ rewards and occasional information.] came the system’s response.
Max wasn’t too disappointed because he had somewhat expected it.
A while later, he got dressed again and came out of the bathroom. Then kissing his mother goodbye, he left her residence.
Zhao Ziyan lay curled up in her bed. She was feeling too comfortable to get up and clean herself. This was why she had declined his offer to join him in the bath.
“I should cultivate.” She muttered after a while, remembering what Max had told her about properly utilizing the energy she received from his Cultivation Art.
Forcing herself to sit up, she sat cross-legged, closed her eyes and began to circulate her cultivation technique.
A short while later, she opened her eyes, her brows furrowed tightly.
“No wonder Chen’er’s father wasn’t able to improve much despite possessing a high aptitude for cultivation… This cultivation technique… it’s too low level for Bone Tempering realm cultivators.” She murmured.
The techniques or arts, whether they were cultivation, combat, movement or any other type, were divided into different grades.
The lowest graded techniques were Bronze Grade techniques and they were further divided into three minor tiers—Low-Tier, Middle-Tier and the Top Tier.
The Top-Tier Bronze technique could be said to be true Bronze Techniques because only they could be cultivated until the peak of the Marrow Cleansing realm—the entire mortal realm. But they were very rare, which was clear from the fact that even most of those Marrow Cleansing families in the Upper City didn’t have them.
Obviously, the Gu family also didn’t have a Top-Tier Bronze Cultivation Technique. In fact, they didn’t have any Middle-Tier ones that could be cultivated to the Peak of Bone Tempering realm.
This was true for almost all other Minor Cultivation families in the Lower City—they cultivated the Low-Tier Bronze ones that were decent for cultivators from the Skin Refinement to the Blood Condensation realm. But if someone wanted to rely on them to reach the Bone Tempering realm, though not impossible, it was extremely difficult.
This was the reason why it was so hard for people of the Minor Cultivation families to reach the Bone Tempering realm and by the time they reached it, they were already in their late forties or fifties. This left them a very short period of time before they would become too old to progress any further and even their cultivation realms would begin to weaken and even regress.
Unfortunately, because their cultivation techniques were just Low-Tier Bronze ones, no matter how hard they worked, they were never able to progress much. This was true for Gu Family’s Previous Patriarch, Liu Bashan, Song Heiran and several others.
Zhao Ziyan had often seen her late husband emerge from his cultivation chamber, looking glum. Now she was able to sympathize with him in the true sense of the word.
Suddenly her eyes flickered and her brows furrowed slightly, “I’m sure Patriarch Mi, being a Late Stage Bone Tempering realm cultivator and the Family Lord of the more prosperous Mi family, had a storage pouch. Why didn’t Chen’er take it when he killed him?”
The reason this thought crossed her mind was because the chances were Patriarch Mi was carrying his family’s Middle-Tier Bronze Cultivation Technique.
“It seems the fight wasn’t as easy as he said it was.” She murmured. Then her heart clenched and her eyes glistened when she remembered the somewhat rough sensations she had felt when she touched his chest but hadn’t paid them much heed at that time because she was too lost in pleasure.
‘I’m… truly a bad mother.’ She cursed herself and had the urge to rush out and go see him, take care of him. However, after hesitating for several moments, she decided against it. She couldn’t help him in any way and he clearly wanted to deal with them on his own.
Gritting her jaws, she closed her eyes and began to circulate her cultivation technique. Even if it could only help her digest just a bit more of the energy inside her, it was still better.
She had to get stronger, if not for herself and the family, then for his sake.
…
Time passed and soon the sun went down on the horizon and stars twinkled in the night sky.
The ordinary members of the family hadn’t been told about the imminent attack, so they were relaxed, had dinner with their families, laughed and talked before going to sleep.
In complete contrast, the Elders and the Main Line were on full alert.
“Why hasn’t anyone from the Judicial Office come yet? Could it be that the Patriarch was lying to us so we wouldn’t worry too much?” Frowned the Third Elder as he paced about in the Second Elders’ house.
The Second Elder was also thinking the same, but he still said, “Let’s not panic and just wait.”
The Third Elder grunted, then he paused and looked at him, asking, “Say, Lizhu, do you think Patriarch is sure about this attack? I mean, where did he find out about it? Don’t tell me Liu Bashan and others had told him because if they knew about this attack, with Patriarch Song’s cautious nature, they wouldn’t have gone after him in the day.”
The Second Elders shrugged, “Who knows. Maybe the Judicial Officer told him?”
Before the Third Elder could respond…
Swoosh! Swoosh!
Bang! Bang!
Thud! Thud!
Sounds of people rushing and clashing echoed from the outside, from the direction of the main line’s residences.
Swoosh!
Both of them grabbed their weapons and rushed out of their residence. While Max hadn’t told them to interfere, he hadn’t prohibited them either.
The other Blood Condensation Elders also came rushing over.
“A few of you stay here, don’t let family members come near.” Shouted the Third Elder. A few of the early stage Blood Condensation Realm Elders stopped to carry out the orders while others joined them and went to the centre of the estate.
However, when they saw the battlefield from a distance, their eyes widened in fear and they froze in place.
