Strongest Mage with the Lust system

Chapter 1050: Dead

Chapter 1050: Dead

“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves too much.” Max said, tapping the table to help them refocus. “I’ll first talk to Chu Liangxing first and see his response. Then we’ll see what we have to do.”

The Second and Third Elders nodded.

Max then asked them for more information on this Endless Wasteland Domain but the Second Elder forced an awkward smile in response, “Third Elder has already told you everything we know. Only the Noble Chu family can give you more information about it, Patriarch.”

Max stared at them expressionlessly.

These old guys… they weren’t too reliable, were they?

Under his gaze, even the Third Elder somewhat lost in his thoughts after the Second Elder’s earlier comment snapped back to his senses fully and began to feel awkward.

Fortunately for the duo, Max soon retracted his gaze and curiously asked, “You mentioned the Sacred Saintess Temple… tell me what you know about it. Apart from the fact that it’s the strongest force in the Azure World and is quite mysterious, I know nothing about it.”

The Elders exchanged a helpless glance. The Second Elder said, “Patriarch… We also don’t know much. The only thing we know is that the last time the Sacred Saintess Temple had made its presence known was over 150 years ago when the number of the demons had increased a lot and they were running rampant all over the world.

It’s said that several Temples had appeared throughout the world and then… the demon plague disappeared.”

Max’s eyes flashed brightly when he heard the mention of ‘Demons’ and immediately enquired about them.

The Elders’ expression became grave.

“Patriarch, you must have heard the rumors that other races, be it the Beasts, Elves, Goblings and others, don’t have good relations with our human race.” The Second Elder said. Max nodded in response. He had indeed learned this from Gu Chen’s memories.

The Second Elder continued, “That’s true, we are indeed not on good terms with them and we can even be regarded as enemies. However, the humanities’ true mortal enemy isn’t them… it’s the demons.

These demons… they aren’t a singular race. They can come from other races and sometimes even from the human race too. Without exception, all demons are bloodthirsty and treacherous. They kill other races too but their main targets are humans. They revel in killing us. Several times, they have almost annihilated humanity from the face of this world but the Sacred Saintess has managed to prevent this from happening…”

From his speech, it was clear the Second Elder didn’t know much about them and the same was probably true for the Third Elder and others too. But he still figured something out.

‘These demons are most likely the Infernal Devils or their underlings. And seeing how they can come from any race… they are probably like me, not the natives of the Chaos Dream Realm and are being sent here.’ After thinking this, his brows furrowed, ‘If this is the case, they should be sent here for the Realm’s opportunities and their time here should be limited too. Then why do they focus so much on killing humans instead of finding their opportunities?’

It didn’t make sense to him because when presented with opportunities, people often tended to forget their enmities and would even cooperate with each other unless…

‘Their goals clash… or the enmity between them is just too deep.’ His eyes flickered with thoughts.

Something told him even though the former seemed more logical, the latter was the reason.

‘The devils in the magic world… they weren’t the natives but seemed to have come there to kill the humans…’ He mused, the look in his eyes becoming solemn.

‘Are humans…’ He shook his head and stopped his thoughts from wandering.

After a while, just when the Elders were about to take their leave, he remembered something and said, “The First Elder’s family should arrive today. Let them return and don’t give them a hard time.”

“Huh?” The news startled both Elders, then their expression turned a shade darker.

“You are letting them return after their betrayal, Patriarch?” The Third Elder said, a hint of reproach in his voice.

The look in Max’s eyes cooled a little in response, and after a moment, he told them what Gu Wanfeng(*1) had told him.

Bang!

“How dare Liu Family do this?!” The Third Elder’s temper flared and his palm on the table after hearing how the First Elder, Gu Lichen, had been blackmailed and controlled.

The Second Elder’s expression was also dark and he let out a sigh, “Old Man Chen, why didn’t he tell us? We could have tried to find a solution.”

Max calmly watched them, not surprised by their reactions. Now that the Gu Family was way stronger than the Liu family and Liu Bashan had already died, adding the fact that the First Elder hadn’t voluntarily done what he did, it was normal that they forgave him and their past close relations even made them feel guilty because they hadn’t noticed how the First Elder was suffering.

Right then…

Clang! Clang! Clang!

The sound of someone knocking on the residence’s main door sounded.

Max stood up and since the Elders were also about to leave, they followed him.

“What is it?” Max asked as he walked out and looked at the young man of the Gu family, no older than 20 years old, standing outside with an urgent expression on his face.

“Greetings, Patriarch! Greetings, Elders!” The young man greeted them and quickly said, “It’s the First Elder’s family. They were attacked not far away from our estate and…”

The trio’s expressions fell.

“Are they fine?” The Second Elder urgently asked.

“No, Elder. They all… perished.” The young man informed with a complicated expression on his face.

Instantly, the trio’s hearts sank.

“Who was it? Who did it?” The Second Elder asked, his voice hoarse and cold.

“I—I don’t know.” Under the trio’s heavy gazes, the young man stammered and nervously said, “The attackers were wearing black cloaks, so no one saw their faces.”

A while later, Max and the entire Gu family, save for the young kids, were gathered. Everyone’s expressions were heavy with sadness and anger as they stared at the Thirteen mutilated corpses of the First Elder’s family.

“Elders, make preparations to bury them. I’ll go bring the First Elder. If he is alive, he should meet them for the last time and say his farewells and if he’s dead, he should be buried with them.” Max said, his face expressionless and his voice emotionless. He then turned around to walk away. After seeing so many familiar faces dead, he was no longer able to suppress his murderous intent.

“Patriarch…” Zhao Ziyan spoke. Max’s steps paused and he looked at her.

“The Liu family… they shouldn’t exist any longer.” She slowly said while looking into his eyes.

“They will not.” Max gave her a nod, then walked away, his steps unhurried but filled with gravity.

Liu Family…

Though the Liu family was just a minor cultivation family, it was prospering unlike the Gu family. Save for late night, people could be seen moving around in the estate at any time, doing their things. It was quite lively.

But from last night, a heavy gloom had covered the entire family. And the cause was the three pieces of news they had received one after another.

(*1) —> Gu Lichen’s descendant and the carriage puller who Max met outside the Red City when leaving for the forest. He is the one who told him the reason of Gu Lichen’s betrayal.
