Chapter 885: Something Wrong
Chapter 885: Something Wrong
Haaa! Huff! Huff!
After a while, Max was huffing as though he had run a marathon, his whole body drenched in sweat which wet the blood and gore sticking to it and produced a nauseating stench.
Max, however, could care less about it right now. In fact, he didn’t even notice it because the painful throbbing of his head wasn’t allowing him any distractions.
Several minutes later, the throbbing eased up, but at the same time, the slight mental clarity that had left seemed to be on the verge of disappearing.
’Just... what... was that?’ He thought.
The instant he tried to activate his Bloodline Sense, an overwhelming pain shot through his body and mind. While he could have endured the physical pain, the mental pain was unbearable.
At that moment, he felt his head was going to burst and he was going to die—every neuron seemed to have been lit on fire.
’I can’t... try yet.’ He decided to wait and fight off these dark thoughts overwhelming his mind first.
...
Chila~!
Lightning crackled above Isabelle’s raised hand as she stared dead at a 100 feet tall rhino-type beast.
Roar!!
The rhino roared and the surrounding mana began gathering on top of its single horn.
Mike and Ryuu, covered in blood, were lying on the ground behind her, nervously looking at Isabelle, hoping she would be able to kill the rhino with this attack, because if she failed to do so, they would be the ones to die soon after.
The lightning’s color slowly deepened and it went from light blue to slightly deeper blue.
Crackle!
Then, in the next moment, it took the shape of a phoenix with its wings stretched out and right as the rhino launched its energy beam attack, Isabelle pointed at it and growled, "Die!"
Swoosh!
The lightning phoenix shot forward and met the energy beam a split second later.
Boom!
A loud explosion occurred, blinding Mike and Ryuu for a moment.
When they regained their vision, they saw Isabelle clutching her right shoulder while staring at the Rhino, who stared at her.
Their hearts fell.
"Wait, look." Mike suddenly noticed something and pointed at Rhino’s forehead.
As soon as he did...
BOOM!
Rhino’s head burst opened and a moment later, its headless body slumped to the ground.
Thud!
Both Mike and Ryuu stared at her back in astonishment.
"...Senior Sister... when did you manage to combine the [Lightning Phoenix Reap Lives] and [Thunder Implosion]?" Mike asked, still having a hard time believing it but also feeling relieved because if she had not, the Rhino would have killed them.
Isabelle turned around and looked at them, a faint smile emerging on her pale face, "Just now."
Ba-Dum!
The duo’s heart skipped a beat, not because she had succeeded merging the spells just now, but because they thought what would have happened if she had failed.
Seeing their expression, Isabelle chuckled and walked over to them. Handing them healing pills, she said, "Hurry up and heal. I will guard you."
Mike and Ryuu nodded, forced themselves into a sitting position and put the pills in their mouths before closing their eyes and began circling their cultivation techniques to digest the pills and heal their injuries faster.
Ten minutes later, they were done and stood up. While they hadn’t completely healed, they could use at least 50% of their powers now, which was enough to leave this place and find safety.
"Elder Sister, you heal too." Ryuu said, eyeing her wounds. Though she wasn’t as severely injured as they were, her injuries weren’t light either.
"No worries. I’ll heal later." Saying this, she walked over to the Rhino’s corpse and put it away with a wave of her hand. Then, she took to the sky and flew away. Mike and Ryuu followed after her.
Soon, they arrived at a safe location they had already placed some formations at and began healing.
Three hours later...
Phew~!
Isabelle exhaled deeply and opened her eyes. Except for the wound in her shoulder which had yet to heal fully, she was as good as new.
Looking over, she saw Mike and Ryuu had also finished healing and were sitting around the fire atop which a deer’s—Early Stage King Beast—meat was shimmering.
Mike was cooking and seasoning it while Ryuu watched with an impatient look in his eyes, almost drooling.
When they sensed her wake up from her meditation, the duo looked over and smiled, "The food’s almost ready, Senior Sister. Come join us."
"Mm." Isabelle nodded and soon the trio was eating with relish.
Though Mike was no professional chef, it still tasted great, One, because it was a King Beast’s meat, and second because their bodies urgently needed energy which the meat had an ample amount of.
"Senior Sister..." After hesitating for a while, Mike said, "Are we going to continue?"
Ryuu also looked at her as she was the one who would decide whether they were going to continue braving the dangers to look for more resources or they would stop here and leave even though it had only been just over two days since they arrived and could stay for five days more.
"No, we stop here." Isabelle said and immediately, the duo sighed in relief.
It wasn’t that they had become scared after almost dying to the Rhino, but because they had realized the minor realm had, for some reason, had become a lot more dangerous.
They hadn’t felt it before when they hunted down Five Star and Early and Mid stage beasts because save for Ryuu, who was in Mid Stage of the King Realm, both Isabelle and Mike were High Stage King Mages, and it was very easy for them to kill them.
Then, they met their first High Stage King Beast early this morning, and it took quite some effort to take it down even after they joined forces.
However, thinking it was probably on the verge of advancing to the Peak of realm which was why it was so strong, they continued their hunt and a few hours later, met the Rhino, another High Stage King Beast.
When the battle began and it started to thrash them, they felt something was wrong. When they thought back to their previous battles, they realized the beasts in this minor realm had somehow become stronger, way stronger.
"Something is definitely wrong here. We have to report it to the authorities before this realm becomes a danger zone." Isabelle said.
The duo nodded before Mike asked, "What about that... blue haired kid?" It was now he realized Max had never reported his name. ’What a guy.’
"Of course, we are taking him with us?" Isabelle said before taking out her communication crystal and sending a message.
Soon, her brows furrowed.
"What is it, Elder Sister?" Ryuu asked.
"He didn’t answer." Isabelle said. Then, she put down the piece of meat she was eating, "Let’s go. He might be in danger."
Swoosh!
Even as she said this, she was already flying out of the stronghold.
Mike and Ryuu exchanged a glance, both seeing displeasure, insecurity, envy and dark glee in each other’s gazes.
"Let’s go."
Mike said, deactivating the formation and storing the formation plates in his storage ring with a wave of his hand.
The duo then shot in the direction Isabelle left.
