Chapter 903: A Crisp Slap

Chapter 903: A Crisp Slap

While they conversed, the Grand Elder of the Inner Elder Hall and others arrived one after another, causing the crowd to erupt in hushed conversations.

They were shocked by so many important figures’ sudden presence in the coliseum, but were also excited because it told them something monumental was going to happen.

They watched as everyone but Disciplinary Hall Master, Velerie, Isolde and the Blue-Haired young man took their seats. So, they focused their attention on the trio.

"Are they going to battle to death?" Suddenly someone asked, but no one replied because Velerie was starting to speak.

"Today, Disciple Isolde Grimheart and Disciple Maxwell Garfield are going to have a Life and Death battle. Elder Blood Flower, Grand Elder, I and all of you are going to be witnesses to it."

Boom!

Just as Velerie finished speaking, a boom sounded out from the arena and one of the combatants was sent flying and smashed onto the ground along with their companion beast.

On the stands, Rima had just finished talking with Sanya and finally paid attention to the arena. Immediately, her brows furrowed because the one who was just smashed into the ground was none other than Kayla, her friend.

The next moment, her brows furrowed deeper because even though Kayla was clearly unable to continue, her opponent, a girl in pink robes pointed towards her and her companion beast—A black mantis—rushed over, raised its front-blade-like legs and slashed towards Kayla and her companion beast, clearly intending to cripple or at least seriously injure them.

Rima instinctively turned towards Sanya, wanting her to stop the battle, but then she realized that unless Kayla passed out or admitted defeat, her opponent was allowed to attack. Since it was not against the rules, Sanya most likely wouldn’t interfere.

Sanya noticed her anxiety and faintly smiled. It was true she wouldn’t interfere, but there was someone else who would.

Right then...

"It’s enough! You have won." A cold voice penetrated the arena’s formations, causing them to ripple, and froze the black mantis in place.

The pink robed girl frowned in displeasure, but shock flickered in her eyes because she was aware no ordinary person could interfere in a ranking battle like this.

Therefore, she immediately smoothened her displeased frown and looked up. Even though she was ready to see someone important, the sight of Velerie shook her. Hurriedly, she bowed, "Yes, Disciplinary Hall Master."

A moment later, the formations opened. After taking a last glance at Kayla, the pink robed girl walked out.

Swoosh!

"Hm?" Above the arena, Max raised his eyebrows in surprise when he saw Rima fly into the arena and land next to Kayla who was struggling to get up.

’So she made a friend...’ Max thought, his eyes flickering.

If it was him of a few months before, he wouldn’t have felt anything, but right now this was not the case.

After the minor realm episode, his thinking had changed.

All the while he was stranded in there, he was deeply afraid that Rima might do something drastic thinking he had died because as far as he knew, she didn’t have anything else to anchor her to the world of living.

So seeing she now had a friend, he felt happy.

He then shifted his gaze to the pink-robed girl, and memorized her appearance.

Soon, Rima took Kayla away before helping her put away her companion beast.

Velerie waved her hand and a formation on the arena’s ground flickered.

Swoosh! Shua!

Immediately, the destroyed ground mended itself to become smooth and pristine.

She then ordered, "Go down."

Both Max and Isolde nodded and flew down, landing on the ground fifty meters away from each other.

"Disciple Isolde Grimheart and Disciple Maxwell Garfield are going to have a Life and Death Battle. All of us are going to be witnesses. No matter who comes out of the arena alive, their grudges would end there. They are not allowed to cause any further troubles for the other party’s related people."

Valerie’s calm but cold voice echoed throughout the Inner Hall. She then waved her hand, causing all the formations to thrum to life.

"You can start whenever you are ready."

She said this right before the formations completely cut off the arena from the outside world and flew over to the stands, taking a seat beside Sanya.

In the arena...

Isolde and Max stood facing each other.

When Max didn’t do anything, Isolde frowned, "Take out your companion beast and get into your battle form. I want you to be completely satisfied of your defeat before I kill you."

Max patted his beast storage bag hanging by his waist and shook his head, "My companion beast is severely injured, so I’m going to fight you without him."

As Isolde furrowed her brows, he smiled, "But don’t you worry, I’ll make sure you won’t feel his absence."

Isolde’s eyes blazed with fury when she heard him.

"Are you trying to provoke me so I would give you a quick death? If so, you are wrong. I wouldn’t do that. I’ll torture you and make you kowtow and apologise for your impudence." She said while slowly walking towards him.

Max’s smile didn’t waver and he curiously asked, "Are you sure you don’t want to take out your companion beast?"

"A puny worm like you isn’t—"

Swoosh!

Slap!

Before she could finish her sentence, the wind in front of her shifted, causing her pupils to constrict and heart to skip a beat. She began to retreat but before she could, a loud and crisp sound of slap rang out before she felt searing pain on her right cheek.

"Let’s quit the trash talk, shall we?"

Max calmly said. He had put just enough force on the slap to make her feel pain and cause the swelling but not enough to send her flying, so she stayed in her place, staring at him in dumbstruck silence.

"You... Did you just..." She murmured, lightly touching her rapidly swelling cheek. Then, her eye turned red and green mana surged out of her in a violent explosion, causing the air around her to distort.

Boom!

Then, her aura surged out, causing the ground several meters around her to sink half a foot.

’An Aura Sphere?’ Max’s eyes flickered, ’No, it’s still an Aura Field, but has the signs of turning into a nascent Aura Sphere.’ He thought.

"I will..."

Isolde was so angry that she was shaking from head to toe, dense killing intent oozing out from her. But then she saw his thoughtful and almost careless expression, and became even more enraged and roared:

"I’ll slaughter you, you whoreson!"

Max’s expression fell and his previously concealed killing intent became visible in his eyes.
