Chapter 921: Curiosity
Chapter 921: Curiosity
"What are you looking at, pretty boy?" The man sneered.
Max watched him calmly before asking, "You are one of Grimheart’s underlings, right?"
"You disrespectful scum. You still haven’t come to your senses." The snarled in anger and it seemed like he wanted to attack, but then he just snorted and walked away.
Max didn’t stop him, after all it was prohibited to fight in the library, and even if it wasn’t, he couldn’t fight in his current condition.
Thus, he memorised his appearance and returned to his place and began waiting, his Bloodline Sense trained on the comprehension room. The moment any showed signs of opening, he would be the first to react.
Half an hour later, another room opened and this time, he managed to claim it and entered.
He glanced around the room and saw it completely empty save for a cushion in the middle of the room.
He focused his Bloodline Sense on the ground and walls, trying to find out the formations but he failed to detect them.
When he walked over and sat down on the cushion, immediately, his mind jolted before extreme clarity washed over him.
"This is really useful." He muttered and closed his eyes. Before trying to comprehend the Thunder Runes, he wanted to go over the theoretical knowledge he received from the booklet.
It only took him less than 20 minutes, and he felt his decision to do it was good because he had absorbed that information more deeply and understood the talisman making technique better.
’Alright, it’s time to comprehend the runes.’ With this thought, he injected his Bloodline Sense into the memory crystal.
First came the darkness, then a rune flickered into existence before his senses. It was extremely clear and unlike before, he could feel a very faint connection to it.
He soon realized it was thanks to his Law Comprehension. If he didn’t have it, no matter how miraculous this comprehension room was or how much time he spent in here, it would have been nearly impossible to make any connection to the rune.
Quickly calming down, he focused all his senses on this faint connection and through it, he began trying to comprehend the rune.
As he immersed himself into it, time ticked by and soon only ten minutes were left before his two hours were up.
Max wasn’t aware of this and continued sitting motionless, not even breathing.
Soon, the final ten minutes passed and right on the dot, the heightened clarity slowly diminished before vanishing completely.
Suddenly, Max found the rune becoming a lot harder to understand.
Fortunately, he hadn’t wasted these two hours and even though he couldn’t comprehend the rune, he had strengthened the connection to it—it was no longer very faint, but strong enough to be sensed as long as he focused.
’With this, I no longer need to rely on the comprehension room,’ he thought.
He knew his speed of comprehension would be severely impacted if he wasn’t in the comprehension room, but he could still comprehend. This was more important.
Of course, when he had enough Merit Points, he was going to return here. If he could lessen the time it took to comprehend the rune, he would absolutely do it. Time... it was extremely important and he couldn’t afford to waste any.
...
Max walked out of the room and looked around. After not finding the one he was looking for, he took out his Identity Badge and sent a message before descending the second floor and leaving the Library Tower.
Swoosh!
The moment he left, a figure appeared before him—Ryuna.
"I’m glad you have decided to join our hall, Mr. Maxwell. Now, please follow me." she said and began walking away.
After glancing in a particular direction, he followed after her, his expression calm.
Ryuna seemed to have noticed something and sent him a Divine Sense Transmission, [Mr. Maxwell, due to your enmity with Isolde Grimheart, people of Grimheart Faction have been looking for you. Now, they already know you have been to the library and will be going to the Talisman Faction.
I wish I could say our Talisman Faction will be a safe haven for you, unfortunately, those vermin have already unfiltered our hall. Thus, it won’t be safe and they would most definitely target you.]
After this transmission, she looked at him and seeing no change in his expression, she knew he was already aware of everything and she couldn’t help but admire him.
If she was in his place, even with Grand Elder Rowan’s backing, she wouldn’t have dared to venture into a place full of her enemies. After all, while Grand Elder was strong, what if the enemy decided to disregard everything and kill her.
Grand Elder could avenge her afterwards, but what good it would be... she was already dead.
[Can they attack me directly?] asked Max as she stared at him.
Hearing his transmission, she snapped back to her senses and sneered, [They wouldn’t dare.]
[Oh?] Max was surprised by her complete confidence.
[Our Hall Master has publicly said this: you might get away with violating the Beast Emperor Hall’s rules outside, but within my hall, no matter who you are or who stands behind you, you’ll be killed without a trial.] Ryuna explained, a proud look on her face.
Max raised his brows. This was even more surprising.
How could this Hall Master be this domineering?
Was he just putting on a false front to scare everyone or...did he truly not fear anyone?
The latter could only be true if...
[Is the Hall Master a Monarch?] he asked.
Ryuna’s lips curled up into a smile, [I know why you would think that after hearing this, but no, she isn’t a Monarch. She is a Peak Emperor Mage, still some distance away from the Quasi-Monarch stage.]
[Then...] Max frowned but before he could ask, Ryuna cut him off. [No, no Monarch is backing her. In fact, because she is quite taciturn and reclusive, she doesn’t even have many friends.]
[Then what gives her confidence to say that.] Max truly couldn’t understand.
[This... you will only understand when you meet her.] Ryuna said, a complex look appearing in her eyes.
This made Max curious enough to want to meet her.
Just what kind of person this Hall Master was?
