Chapter 975: Overbearing Song Family

Chapter 975: Overbearing Song Family

When Song Huichen didn’t hit Gu Chanhui and instead lowered his hand, Song Huishi couldn’t help but look at him in confusion.

Song Huichen felt his face burn in humiliation but he didn’t dare strike again. After all, it was never a good idea to enrage an enemy you can’t see through.

“You want to know what’s going on?” He coldly said, then pushed Gu Chanhui forward, which made him stumble and fall, “Ask him, he will tell you all about it.”

Max looked at him for a second which made him look away. Shaking his head inwardly, he took another bite from the fish in his hand, walked forward and helped Gu Chanhui up.

He then grabbed a stool behind the counter of the shop and helped him sit on it.

“Chanhui, right? Tell me what happened without leaving any details.” Max said, chewing the delicious fish meat. As he gulped it down, he felt his fiercely burning hunger ease up a bit.

Gu Chanhui stared at Max and seeing his uncaring behavior, he became even more uneasy.

“Don’t be afraid. I won’t let anyone touch you again.” Max comfortingly said while tearing another chuck of fish.

“Heh, that’s some big talk.” Song Huishi mocked.

Max ignored him, his gaze focused on Gu Chanhui.

Gu Chanhui gulped nervously and hesitantly began speaking.

What happened wasn’t too complicated.

A river flowed through the outer area of the Redwood city and it was rich with marine life.

Several cultivation families in the outer region had leased a part of it from the City Lord Mansion. There, they went fishing and sold the caught fishes through their shops in the outer market.

The Gu, Liu and Song family had also leased a part of it and because they had leased it at the same time, their territories were adjacent to one another.

Before the tragedy struck the Gu Family, all three families respected their boundaries and fished in their own territories.

But for the past two and a half years, the Song Family which had adjacent territory to theirs, began breaching the boundary but it only happened occasionally and Song Family people would return to their own territory once they were done.

However, in the past few months, their actions became a lot more overbearing as they began to encroach upon the Gu family’s territory.

When Gu family’s people saw that they showed no intention of returning and were instead making fishing camps there, they protested it. However, all they got in return was a beating.

Helpless, they reported it to the personnel assigned by City Lord Mansion to handle the minor issues related to the river in the outer region. But to their dismay, the personnel ignored them completely. Only later did they find out that he had been bribed by the Song family.

Since they weren’t powerful enough to take their territory back forcefully, neither the authorities were helping them, the Gu Family could only swallow the humiliation and let it be.

But as the saying goes: People want a mile after taking an inch, the Song family didn’t stop and continue their encroachment.

By now, they had taken control over half of their river territory.

This morning, Gu Chanhui had gone to catch some fish for the shop when these two from the Song family came and began beating him without saying anything.

When he asked, they told him the place he was fishing was now their family’s territory and he had broken the rules by fishing there.

Once Gu Chanhui was finished, he lowered his head, feeling very anxious and scared.

Max had devoured the fish by now. Throwing the bones in the trash bin, he stared at him in astonishment which made Gu Chanhui even more uneasy.

“Chanhui… Why are you scared?” Max asked, unable to understand his reaction.

“Becasue I have caused trouble for the family…” Gu Chanhui answered in a low voice filled with guilt and helplessness.

“Look at me.” Gu Chanhui heard Max say this and looked up at him, preparing himself to receive his admonishment.

As expected, he saw a serious expression on his face which looked very uncharacteristic on him given his earlier ‘I don’t give a fuck’ attitude.

He gulped nervously.

However, what he said next made his eyes widen, then well up with tears.

“You haven’t done anything wrong. So don’t feel guilty.” Max said before giving his shoulder a strong pat that seemed to say ‘Don’t worry, I’m here.’

‘Gu Chen… He…’ He was overcome with emotions and felt guilty for thinking badly of him earlier.

Meanwhile, Max ignored him, turned around and looked at Song Huichen and Song Huishi, his expression incomparably cold.

“We all know who is at fault here but I don’t want to discuss it right now. If you don’t mind heading over to the Judicial Officer to sort this matter out, I will accompany you. If you don’t… Fuck Off!” He said, his voice low but frigid.

Both Songs and the crowd stared at him in astonishment.

Did they hear it right?

Did this Gu kid just threaten them with the Judicial Officer?

A few moments of stunned silence later, both Song Huichen and Huishi burst out in a mocking laughter.

“Hahaha, you want to take this matter to the Judicial Officer? Be our guest and see what happens.”

Max had the urge to rub his forehead in frustration. From what Gu Chen knew, while the officer in charge of looking after the section of river in the Outer Region occasionally took bribes and looked the other way, the Judicial Officer was a just man. Anyone who went to him would get the rightful justice.

This was why he had dared to threaten them with his name, but the Song’s mocking and the crowd’s pitying expressions told him he was wrong.

‘What a headache.’ He grumbled inwardly. Then suddenly, his eyes flashed and he put on a clueless expression on his face as he asked,

“What are you laughing about? Do you think the Lord Judicial Officer won’t give me justice? Could it be that you have bribed him too?”
