Chapter 985: A Huge Windfall
Chapter 985: A Huge Windfall
Nie Xiaolu, who was about to walk out, paused when she heard him. Looking at him, she said, “If you are busy today, we can do it tomorrow.”
“Mm, let’s do it tomorrow morning then.” Max nodded. He wanted to marry her and consummate their marriage as soon as possible because her Yin Constitution was sure to give him a large amount of Lust Points, but he already had things planned for the night.
“Okay.” Nie Xiaolu calmly nodded before walking out.
Just as Max had finished regulating his breathing and was about to consume the Golden Spirit Fruit, the door opened and Nie Haolong walked in.
Max opened his eyes and looked at him in silence.
Nie Haolong also stared at him, his expression complicated. After a while, he finally opened his mouth and said, “I guess we are about to become brothers-in-law.”
“Yeah.” Max nodded while inwardly sighing in relief because Nie Haolong didn’t seem offended or displeased.
Silence reigned between them for a few moments again before Nie Haolong stepped forward and held out the cloth wrapper towards him, “Here, I found this and the Golden Fruit together.”
“What is it?” asked Max, taking the cloth wrapper without any hesitation.
“I don’t know, but it seems like a book.” answered Nie Haolong, then he said, “Alright, you eat the fruit and cultivate well. I’ll help Elder Sister prepare a meal for you.”
Saying this, he walked out of the room, closing the door after him.
Max focused on the cloth in his hand and slowly opened the cloth. When the contents were revealed to his eyes, he realized why Nie Haolong said it ‘seemed’ like a book.
The thing covered in the cloth was a golden book, or it seemed like it because he wasn’t able to open it no matter how much force he used.
“Hm?” As Max stared at it in confusion, he suddenly noticed an extremely hazy image on its cover that previously was completely blank. At the same time, the trace of Garfield Bloodline within him stirred.
Thus, he completely focused on the cover and slowly, the hazy image began to become clearer. It took half an hour, a significant portion of his mental energy but Max finally saw the image.
In the image, a man dressed in ornate golden robes was sitting atop a golden throne with one leg crossed over the other. His expression was calm, pleasant even, but Max felt a deep sense of trepidation, fear even as he looked at him. At the same time, a sense of reverence surged into his heart along with the willingness to bow down and submit to him.
Bang!
His Garfield Bloodline flared up, as if it was provoked, and his body began heating up. This snapped Max out of the hypnotic daze he had fallen into and immediately, his expression turned cold.
While glaring at the image, he strengthened his will and began suppressing and erasing the sense of reverence and wish to submit.
He became surprised because he found that the more he suppressed it, the stronger it became.
He knew the easy way to remove this influence—he just needed to look away, but his pride didn’t allow that.
Thus he continued using the brute force of his will.
…
Ha! Ha!
Just five minutes later, his breathing had become ragged, his entire body was covered in sweat and the veins on his forehead were bulging and twitching.
Just as his mental energy was about to be used up completely and his vision turning blurry, suddenly the sense of reverence inside him stopped strengthening.
His eyes lit up and within a few seconds, he had completely eradicated it.
Phew!
He exhaled deeply, feeling proud that he didn’t let it influence it, at the same time, he became solemn.
Just what was this book? How could a mere image almost make him, whose will was countless times stronger than ordinary people, submit?
‘Good thing Haolong and Xiaolu didn’t see it or they would have lost themselves.’ He thought. After a while, he refocused on the book. The image was still there but it no longer had any effect on him.
He tried opening it and…
Whoosh!
The cover was turned and a golden light suddenly filled his vision. Before he could even form the thought of closing his eyes or the book, a large amount of information appeared in his mind.
[…Imperial Sovereign Sutra.] An indistinct voice spoke in his mind.
At the same time, the golden light vanished and Max watched the golden book in his hands rapidly disintegrate into nothingness.
Max stared at his hands in a daze for a long time. Finally, he muttered, “Did I just… receive a Sovereign Level Inheritance?”
[Yes, Host, but it’s not the same sovereign level you think it is.] Suddenly a system screen flashed.
“What do you mean?” asked Max.
[Host, the only thing I can tell you is that what you just got is something beyond the level of those so-called Sovereign forces of your world.] The system answered.
Max’s eyes widened in disbelief.
He already knew the Supreme Mage realm wasn’t the ceiling of power, higher realms existed. He also didn’t have a hard time believing that the inheritance he received was such a High-Level Inheritance.
However, what he couldn’t believe was the fact that Nie Haolong had randomly found this inheritance in the small forest some distance from the Redwood city.
“Chaos Dream Realm…” He muttered. Indeed, it was as he had thought, this place wasn’t ordinary at all.
Just as Max recovered and was about to rejoice, another system screen unfolded before him and his face froze.
[Host, I have a warning for you. Some powers in this world has already noticed you receiving this Inheritence… Trouble times are ahead. Please be prepared.]
“Am I fated to not rest for a bit and enjoy my life?” He murmured, frustrated.
He had thought he only needed to find a way to unlock his Bloodline’s 3rd lock and yeah, hunt down some Infernal Devils the person outside the Chaos Dream Realm requested. But now he had to worry about himself being hunted down?
[Host, do you wish to avoid being hunted down?] The system asked suddenly.
Max was speechless. Was this something it needed to ask?
“Of course, I do.”
