Chapter 2389 Please… please be Nux…
Just as the women were about to have a go at each other to take their built-up frustration out—
Zzzzpp
All Energies in the room disappeared as if they had never existed.
The women froze, shocked by what had happened. Shadow's expression hardened as she sensed something and warned the rest.
"Someone's forcing their way into the Universe."
She tried to resist, to keep whatever entity it was outside, but it wasn't working. There was no 'defense mechanism' built in the Universe, or a Wall she could simply strengthen to stop whatever was coming.
There was honestly nothing she could do.
It was either an Entity could come inside, or not.
And right now—
It seemed like it was coming.
Hearing her words, the women's expressions turned solemn too, even Astaria and Vyriana, who hadn't participated in the chaos because they had given up on their will to fight suddenly stood straight, their eyes narrowing dangerously.
They may have made a decision to not fight, but when it came to their children's safety, it was an entirely different matter.
And the rest of the women were the same.
No matter how broken they were.
When the enemy was coming in, they were all ready to face him, together. All of them took their battle stance and prepared for the worst, Shadow turned towards the children and tried to use the Power of Space to send them away.
But just then—
Lane, who had taken her sword out and had extended her senses to the maximum, making sure the enemy didn't take her by surprise—
Noticed a movement right beneath her.
Her Shadow—
It was moving.
Or more accurately, it was trembling. In the same way as when…
"Nux…?"
Lane called out, a little confused.
"Huh?"
"What?"
The rest of the women reacted strongly at their husband's name, but before they could understand what Lane was trying to say—
RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE
The entire Universe trembled, Shadow's eyes widened in surprise, she had no clue what was happening. She tried to spread her energy to calm the Universe down, to tell it she and the others were still here.
But suddenly—
"Wha…?"
Shadow froze.
She lost her Authority over the Universe.
As if… the Universe itself deemed her less worthy and gave itself to someone more worthy.
"Who is it?"
Shadow's face distorted as her eyes looked around, glowing with anger.
The rest of the women were now even more confused but—
RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE
The Universe shook again, this time, stronger than before. Then suddenly—
"COME OUT YOU BASTARD!!!"
Shadow screamed.
The rest of the women turned towards her, this time, more alert than before.
"Shadow, what's wrong?"
Vyriana questioned.
"S-Someone's devouring the Universe's resources."
"Resources?"
"Five Worlds just vanished."
Shadow answered and the women's eyes widened in horror.
"The enemy was already here?"
Astaria had already grabbed her sword.
But then—
"It is not an enemy!"
Lane spoke, much louder than any of the women here had heard her speak, but Lane didn't care, she looked at Astaria, then at Shadow, with her dark eyes shining with strong excitement and—
"It's Nux! He's back!!"
She informed as she pointed at her shadow that was still trembling softly.
The women frowned, especially Shadow, after all, the two of them were saying the exact opposite things.
"It's… Nux…?"
Shadow wondered out loud, her mind was then jolted awake as she started thinking.
It made sense.
She had been panicking because someone was taking control over the Universe Nux gave her.
But—
This was the Universe Nux gave her. She, his wife, inherited it from him and no being would be able to take it from her, no matter how strong they were.
So when the Universe was being taken away from her.
There was only one logical answer.
It was Nux.
And it wasn't him taking away the Universe, it was the Universe reacting to his presence and returning to him.
Like it was supposed to.
"Yes! It's Nux! My Shadow only trembles in that manner when Nux is reforming his body to appear next to me!"
Lane exclaimed, her tears streamed down her eyes, but this time, the emotion these tears were carrying wasn't sadness.
It was relief.
Relief and happiness so strong that her mind couldn't completely process it.
The rest of the women stared at Lane's Shadow and as if answering those gazes—
The Shadow rose.
Unlike how it almost instantly turned into Nux in a matter of seconds, this time, the process was… a lot slower than usual.
And that was when Shadow realized it—
"He is using the Universe's resources to reform his body."
She commented.
"So the five worlds you mentioned before…"
Lyriana asked in a low, uncertain, but hopeful voice.
"Yes, it was him."
Shadow nodded.
Even now, she still wasn't absolutely sure since none of the women here could sense it, even Lane had only recognized the pattern. It was like listening to someone's footsteps and assuming who it was.
The only difference was Lane wouldn't mistake it, or at least, she was absolutely sure she wouldn't mistake it.
But the rest of the women were still prepared.
Their children were here, they couldn't take any risk, so they were prepared to move the moment they realized it wasn't Nux but someone trying to copy him.
However, as suspicious as they were.
The women's eyes had changed.
Hope.
A terrifyingly strong, almost painful hope.
"And he's… devouring more…"
Shadow mentioned as she sensed three more worlds disappear out of existence.
These were the worlds Nux had devoured for the future, worlds that their children were supposed to use to get stronger, worlds they had saved as a form of 'resources'.
And this action made Shadow doubt herself and Lane.
Was it… truly Nux?
Would he truly use resources he had saved for his children to… return…?
She wondered in her head.
But then she looked at the women around her, the tears in their eyes, their half-broken state, then her eyes fell on a dark, tinted window that reflected her own face, which was no better than the others.
And she got the answer.
He would.
If it was for his wives, Nux would do anything.
Please… please be Nux…
Shadow muttered as she stared at the thin black thread that originated from Lane's shadow, flicking non-stop as if it was doing everything it could to survive.
