Chapter 1086: Eleanor
Chapter 1086: Eleanor
Inside the vast territory of the Blake family, there was a secluded manor just off the main building. It is surrounded by a low wrought-iron fence, hiding a world of silence and aromas.
The house itself is a two-storey building made of light stone with wide windows covered with ivy. Inside, perfect order reigned, maintained only by a couple of loyal servants who worked, moved silently, trying not to disturb the peace of the only mistress.
The main pride of the estate is a small but lush garden. An open wooden gazebo, painted white, is installed in the center of it. Its carved railings are entwined with climbing roses of the new world, which create a living wall from the wind.
Another morning greeted an elderly woman with gray hair who came out onto the garden paths, holding a watering can in her hands. For her, gardening was not just a duty, but a real sacred ritual. She carefully examined each leaf, talking to the plants and watering them, without resorting to the help of her servants.
After completing the morning ritual, the woman entered the gazebo, and at the same moment one of her faithful maids appeared in front of her. She started pouring warm tea for the mistress, and then, handing her a book, disappeared as imperceptibly as she appeared. Now the woman could enjoy reading in the morning sun, alone with herself.
She spent about half an hour in complete silence, immersed in reading a book, when suddenly a calm male voice sounded next to her.
“It’s so quiet and pleasant here.”
Eleanor jumped slightly in surprise and turned to see a young man with brown hair sitting across from her. He leaned his elbows on the table and, resting his chin on his palm, looked with interest at her garden.
Idan, having discovered the place where Eleanor lived, was pleasantly surprised to find this cozy corner. However, what surprised him the most was Eleanor herself.
Unlike many other members of the Blake family, and even her maids, she remained an ordinary mortal. Even with age, she retained grace and beauty, which indicated that in her youth she was a real beauty.
The fact that she remained mortal when almost the entire Blake family had already succumbed to temptation and began to serve the creatures of fire told Idan a lot about her character and perception of the world.
Moreover, she wasn’t afraid when she met his gaze. After the initial surprise, there was no fear in her eyes, just curiosity.
“Lady Eleanor, I hope I haven’t disturbed your privacy,” — Idan asked with a smile.
“Of course I did,” she replied, returning to reading her book. “Wait until I finish reading this chapter, and before all the intrigue disappears.”
Idan’s right eye twitched. And then he realized that his “grandmother” was not an easy person.
Out of respect for his elders, Idan decided not to do anything. He leaned back in his chair and watched the garden while Eleanor finished reading her chapter.
She was completely focused on reading, not paying attention to anything around her.
Only when she had finished reading the chapter did she carefully insert the bookmark, closed the book and put it on the table.
“Where are Amanda and my grandchildren?” was the first thing she asked Idan.
Idan wasn’t surprised. After all, this was the wife of the head of the Blake family. Despite her isolation, her age, and her mortal condition, she must have her own source of information. It had been long enough for the news to reach her.
“There’s no need to worry, they’re completely safe,” Idan assured with a slight smile and added with confidence, “They’re in one of the safest places in this world right now.”
“A safe place?” snorted Eleanor. “It’s dangerous everywhere these days, and there’s hardly a safe place in the world.”
“Oh, believe me, Lady Eleanor, there really is such a place.” Idan was sure that the Kingdom was one of the safest places on Earth.
Eleanor did not believe his words; she looked attentively at the young man in front of her.
After a short silence, she said:
“If you’re so sure of your words, then let them stay with you for a while.”
Idan hadn’t expected to hear such a request from her.
“Although this place seems safe, it’s really just an illusion,” Eleanor added, noticing his silence.
“Well, I don’t mind if that’s Lady Eleanor’s wish,” Idan did not refuse.
Sheltering his aunt, a mortal with two children, was not a problem for the current Kingdom.
“In exchange for this, I want Lady Eleanor to listen to my story from the past and correct it if she finds a mistake in it,” Idan asked.
For the first time, Eleanor frowned, but after a short silence, she agreed.
“It’s a deal,” she said.
This combination of circumstances was in Idan’s favor.
“So, I’d like to tell you a story about two twin brothers,” Idan began, and those words were enough to make Eleanor get serious.
“From the moment the brothers were born, it was almost impossible to tell them apart by their looks.”
“However, their characters were completely different. The former was more freedom-loving and did not tolerate control, while the latter was quieter and more obedient.”
By this point, Eleanor had already guessed that they were talking about her two boys.
Her calm finally cracked, but she tried not to show it.
She did not interrupt the young man’s story. Instead, she wondered who he was and why he was telling her all this.
“Despite their differences in personalities, the brothers were very close.”
“In addition, they possessed a vibrant natural beauty that captivated the hearts of many young girls.”
“When the brothers turned 18, the first of them found a way to leave the family for a while and went to study in another country.”
“However, he did not know that the girl he was dating before he left had become pregnant and given birth to his child.”
“In a new country, he found freedom, met new people and a new love.”
“Over time, his new sweetheart also got pregnant by him.”
“Unfortunately, this time the family found out about it and sent the second brother to bring the first one back.”
“After completing his mission, the second brother brought his brother back, but not alive, but only his body.”
“The family was in grief.”
“One of the brothers died.”
“There’s only the second brother left.”
Idan paused. The entire time he was talking, he was carefully watching Eleanor’s reaction.
“That would be the end of the story of the two brothers, if not for the secret hidden behind it all.”
“No one suspected that it wasn’t the second brother who returned, but the first…”
“And then he brought not his own body, but the body of his second brother.”
“As a result, the family buried the second brother under the guise of the first brother, and the first brother assumed the guise of the second.”
“It was strange that such a big family didn’t notice the substitution…”
“And it’s even more surprising that the twins’ mother didn’t notice it… the only person who could tell at a glance which of the brothers was which…”
“Or is it not?”
“Perhaps the brothers’ mother knew the truth and helped the first brother hide it?”
“What do you think of this, Lady Eleanor?”
By this point, Idan had already received an answer.
The woman who listened to his story couldn’t hold back her tears and burst into tears.
