Chapter 835: Lake of the Dead

Chapter 835: Lake of the Dead

From a bird's-eye view, one of the Forbidden Zones looked like an ordinary lake, almost beautiful: cold clear water, reeds, smooth boulders near the shore, duckweed in the pools. At dawn, the surface of the lake is covered with a misty "milky" veil.

The smell of silt and wet wood is in the air near the lake, and the voices of frogs and birds can be heard around.

If look at the surface of the lake for a long time, can notice one oddity: the waves do not move in the wind, but as if under the influence of someone's slow breathing. Sometimes barely noticeable dark circles appear on the water surface, like the traces of huge craters, which immediately disappear.

There is not just depth hidden under the lake, but a whole "other side" — a special space that seems to be superimposed on the water surface, like the inside of a fabric.

The water here serves as a kind of membrane: can dive in there and find yourself in the usual dark water column, or can "fall through" — and suddenly there is no water around, but a black, heavy environment resembling liquid twilight.

Here can breathe, but the air is icy and dry, like in a crypt.

The sounds are muffled, and the light behaves strangely: the torch burns with a low purple flame, and the magical light casts shadows that do not correspond to objects.

Like all Forbidden Zones, the Lake of the Dead is divided into three layers: outer, middle and central.

However, unlike other places, guests here do not need to move forward, but dive deeper. The deeper the guest sinks into the dark waters, the closer he gets to the heart of the lake.

The "other side" of the lake looks like a cross between water and sky. Here can see bizarre fish swimming around, and mysterious birds, as if floating in the air.

There are three ways to get to the "other side" of the lake, rather than into the dark waters of the lake itself.:

* The first method: dive at the moment when a dark circle appears on the surface and the air around becomes too quiet for a second, as before a thunderclap.

* The second method: Enter at night, when the Limbo moon is reflected on the water in a perfect disk, without ripples. This reflection becomes the "door" to the inside of the lake.

* The third way: Allow the water to close over your head without a struggle. The inside does not like those who try to break through by force, but gladly accepts those who are ready to accept it.

To the sounds of frogs croaking and unknown birds singing, a lone figure walked calmly across the surface of the quiet and frightening lake. She walked confidently towards the center of the lake, ignoring the world around her.

She was wearing a black outfit with a hood hiding her face, but her steps and figure gave her away as a woman.

After walking quite a distance from the shore, the figure finally stopped. However, her calmness did not last long. The water around her began to move, and the support under her feet disappeared. The woman began to sink into the water.

When the water closed over her head, the figure disappeared. She did not drown, but plunged into another part of the lake, ending up in the outer layer of the Forbidden Zone — the Lake of the Dead.

Once on the surface of the Lake of the Dead, the figure that seemed to be sinking suddenly opened four massive black wings and hovered in the air.

There were two ways to move in this lake: to swim (dive) or fly (fall).

With a flap of its wings, the figure rushed towards a certain direction, as if it was being pulled by an unknown force.

She flew fast and confidently, as if she knew exactly where she was going.

Cutting through either the water or the air, she soon found herself in front of three figures who were already waiting for her on a floating black stone, like an island.

"You're finally here," said the woman standing in the center, looking at her with a smile.

The figure stopped and took off its hood, revealing its identical face to that of the woman who stood in the center.

This figure was a Doppelganger of Sierra, who had arrived at the Lake of the Dead at the call of her Master, directly from the First City of Limbo.

The woman who met her was Sierra herself. Next to her stood the Princess, the former Queen of the Womskinner race, in the form of a little girl with four arms, long black hair and a small tiara on her head.

On the other side of Sierra was a tall and elegant figure clad in a black robe decorated with long veils of algae and tentacles. Her skin had a cold, ghostly shade-pale bluish-silver with a slight purple undertone.

From behind the veil, two blue eyes were looking at the new guest, in which a faint glow flickered.

Sierra looked down at her three contracts.

The first was her Doppelganger, who had been in the First City of Limbo all this time. She ran errands for Sierra and enjoyed her freedom, secretly watching the city and indulging in little pranks under the influence of the Energy of Madness.

Sierra was aware of her Double's antics and did not interfere with them, as long as they remained unnoticed and did not harm her reputation.

Her second contract, the Princess, looked at Sierra with adoration, became her devoted fan, and after Sierra signed her third contract, she was named Prina.

Their first meeting was not a happy one.

Sierra knew that she was responsible for the death of Ned, Idan's first contract, and also nearly took the lives of Idan and Arabel.

If Idan hadn't assured her that Ned could be resurrected, Sierra would never have considered signing a contract with her, let alone the fact that Geminia would hardly have allowed her to do so.

The pride of the former Queen of the Womskinner race was broken by Geminia, and Sierra did not know what methods she used to do this.

When the former Queen ended up in Sierra's hands, she was already partially broken and scared.

After signing the contract, Sierra initially felt dissatisfaction and residual pride of the former Queen through the bond, but she did not let this develop by spanking her small ass.

It was only after Sierra regained her Dark Spirit Form that the Prina completely lost her resistance and discontent. She accepted Sierra unconditionally, became her fan, and even started calling her big sister respectfully.

And the last person Sierra looked at was her last contract, which she signed here, during her dive, reaching the middle layer. She was the Princess of the Current, or, in other words, the Princess of the Drowned.
