’Not bad... but I’ve barely scratched the surface with these skills. Too much to master, too little time,’ Anos thought as he let the glowing status vanish. His eyes closed, his head leaning back.
’This day has been... heavier than I expected. I need rest.’ He let out a long sigh, his lashes lowering, and soon drifted into sleep.
Across from him, Isabella Ruth tilted her head as she watched her son’s breathing even out. A softness melted into her features—something her subordinates had rarely, if ever, witnessed.
’He fell asleep so easily...’ Isabella mused, her lips curving into the faintest smile. She quietly shifted in her seat, sliding a pillow behind Anos’ head so that he wouldn’t bump against the wooden carriage.
’Sleep well, my child. Let me carry your burdens for now.’
Her hand lingered briefly, brushing his dark hair from his forehead with surprising tenderness.
From the side, Lira watched the interaction, her heart clenching. She had never seen her teacher like this—radiant, happy, almost... human.
’Teacher... you’ve changed,’ she thought, staring at Isabella with conflicted eyes. ’But maybe it isn’t a bad change.’
She glanced at Anos, his peaceful face lit faintly by the carriage’s lantern glow. A small pang stirred in her chest. She quickly closed her eyes, leaning back as if to hide her thoughts.
The carriage wheels rolled steadily onward, guarded from above by The Shadow and Cody, both streaking like silent sentinels through the skies.
---
Hours later, the carriage creaked to a gentle halt. Outside, a towering castle-like structure loomed into view, majestic and radiant under the sunlight—the seat of power itself.
"Hm, we’ve arrived," Isabella whispered as she peeked from the carriage window, her voice low but steady.
She reached over and lightly shook Anos’ shoulder. "Wake up, Anos. We’re at Soul Haven."
Anos stirred, his golden eyes blinking open, still hazy with sleep. When his gaze lifted, he found Isabella’s smile waiting for him—warm, almost glowing.
"...Soul Haven?" he muttered, rubbing his eyes before glancing outside. His jaw slackened.
’It’s even more grand than I imagined,’ Anos thought, awe breaking across his young face. ’Reading about this in the Soulspire World novels and standing here in person... it’s a world apart.’
He chuckled quietly to himself. "So this is the legendary Soul Haven."
On the opposite seat, he turned—and nearly laughed outright.
Cauli was fast asleep, her head tucked onto Lira’s lap like a child clinging to comfort. But the funny part was that Lira herself had slumped sideways, her cheek pressed into the cushion, a thin line of drool glistening from her mouth.
’How amusing...’ Anos smiled faintly, shaking his head.
Meanwhile, Chloe was asleep as well—but unlike the others, she sat with her back perfectly straight, posture impeccable, almost statuesque.
"They’ve earned their rest," Isabella said softly, catching Anos’ curious glance. Her eyes lingered on her disciples. "Cauli and Chloe fought hard in the Starshade Forest, and Lira spent her strength battling a beast for her soul band. It’s only natural they’re exhausted."
Her gaze slid back to Anos, sharp and knowing. "But you... you are different."
Anos met her look for a heartbeat, then shrugged slightly. "Is that so..." He let the subject drop, his focus drifting back to the massive Soul Haven gates.
At that moment, The Shadow and Cody landed beside the carriage, their black robes stirring faintly in the breeze.
"Let’s wake the others," Isabella said, and without warning released a soft pulse of her soul power.
"Ahh! Wh-where am I?!" Lira yelped, jerking upright in panic.
"C-Cat?! Where’s the cat?!" Cauli cried, springing up so fast her forehead smacked directly into Lira’s chin.
Pak!
"Ow—my chin!" Lira hissed, clutching it.
"...my forehead..." Cauli muttered pitifully, rubbing the red mark blooming there.
Chloe calmly opened her eyes, unbothered. "We’ve arrived, haven’t we?"
"Yes," Isabella confirmed, her voice carrying its usual authority. "Welcome to Soul Haven."
Lira and Cauli straightened instantly, their embarrassment giving way to seriousness. "Teacher..." they said in unison.
"Mistress." Chloe bowed deeply. "Forgive our poor performance."
"It’s fine. Gather yourselves—we’re stepping out." Isabella’s lips quirked faintly before she added dryly, "And Lira... wipe your drool."
"Ehh?! Drool?!" Lira squeaked, her face turning crimson as she fumbled for her handkerchief. Anos smirked at her mortification, though he said nothing.
They exited together, the group passing through the towering gates and into the grand expanse beyond. Cauli and Chloe were stunned speechless by the immensity of the castle’s interior, eyes wide as they took in every towering column and sprawling hall.
"This place is... enormous," Cauli whispered in awe.
"Of course," Lira chimed smugly, puffing out her chest. "This is Soul Haven—the pride of the Soulspire World."
Cauli blinked at her, unimpressed, and promptly ignored her.
"...You’re not even listening!" Lira huffed.
Cauli tilted her head. "Who are they?" she asked suddenly, pointing at a group of youths training on a white-paved field.
"Talented children, invited personally by Soul Haven," Lira replied proudly, flashing a grin.
"I see," Cauli said softly, her gaze drifting back to Isabella.
"Heh. Since you’re now Teacher’s disciple, you’re my junior sister. You’ll call me senior sister from now on," Lira declared.
