Chapter 637: Count William
Chapter 637: Count William
Count William
Night fell over the lands of Nagareth like a soft blanket. The old city of Nagareth and the new city of New Nagareth were really apart.. Even from very far away you could still see the light of New Nagareth. It was like the city was shining bright. The torches and lanterns made the streets look like they were on fire. In a good way. They made the city feel alive even when most other cities would be quiet and sleepy. New Nagareth was a city that did not sleep the streets of New Nagareth were busy, with people. The city was really something under the rule of its city lord. It had become a fancy and proud place. The streets were made of stone and they looked beautiful in the moonlight. The big buildings were polished. They shone with gold and silver colors, which made the whole city look like a dream. The city of its city lord was an example of what people can achieve when they have big goals and are, in charge.
The city had a house in the middle it was like a crown on the city. The house had walls with carvings of the golden seven-headed naga on them this was the special symbol of Nagareth and it meant they were protected. The roads that went to the house were made of stones and fancy cars went on them they did not make a lot of noise. Each car was pulled by gold horses they had shiny things on their heads and they looked like fire in the light of the two moons. The golden seven-headed naga was a deal for Nagareth it was, on the walls of the big house and it showed that Nagareth was important. Guards and servants stood at spaces bending down really low as each carriage went by. They did this in a smooth way like they had done it many times before and they never seemed to question it. The guards and servants just kept doing what they were doing.
Count William was a deal in this place. And just saying his name made people respect him all over the northern areas. Tonight everything in the city was ready, for Count William. Every light every step people took every breath they made it was all quietly waiting for Count William to show up.
The first carriage slowed down as it came to the gates of the estate. The wheels made a sound on the stone before stopping. The gatekeeper was a man with a big scar on his left cheek. He put up his hand, which was covered with a leather glove and the lantern light shone on it as he signaled for the carriage to come forward. The estate gates were really fancy. The carriage stopped right in front of them. The gatekeepers glove looked nice in the light. The carriage had stopped moving and it was waiting for something to happen next. The gatekeeper was still standing there with his hand up waiting for the people, in the carriage to do something.
The carriage doors opened smoothly and a soft whoosh of night air came into the hallways. This air was cool and it smelled nice it went inside like when you hold your breath. Then you let it out. The night air, from the carriage slipped into the hallways and it was cool and it smelled nice.
The servants were all dressed up in their uniforms and they moved really fast. You could see the silver buttons on their clothes as they came forward to greet the people who were arriving. It was really quiet you did not hear any footsteps or voices. The servants were very calm and quiet as they showed the guests where to go walking with them on the shiny marble floors. The servants were very good, at their job. You could tell they were there even if you did not actually hear them.
The estate was really inside. There were velvet curtains on the walls. These curtains had stories to tell about people who had won big had a lot of money and were very successful. The stories were told in quiet colors. There were crystal lights hanging from the ceiling. They were heavy, with a lot of light. This light was bouncing all over the shiny stone floor. It was like the light was made of gold. The estate had a lot of luxury inside. Everything was fancy and nice. The crystal lights and the velvet curtains made the estate feel like a place. The estate was full of luxury.
The maids in uniforms trimmed with subtle silver moved through the corridors with quiet precision. They walked quietly. Their long hair went back and forth a little with each step catching the light from the candles before it went back to how it was. The maids eyes had something, than just doing what they were told. There was a lot of focus in their eyes they were very smart. Had been doing this job for a long time. The maids watched the maids watched everything without looking like they were watching.
The butlers moved among the people smoothly. They carried trays with control it looked very easy for them. The butlers had faces it was hard to tell what they were thinking.. The way they walked and stood showed that they were in charge. It was like the butlers were the ones who made sure everything on the estate went according to plan. The butlers had a power, about them the estate seemed to depend on them.
The hall was really big. It had high ceilings that curved like the stomach of a huge animal. This made the sound and light get swallowed up. In the middle of the hall there was a table made of dark wood that had been polished until it shone. The table looked like it had grown there naturally than being made by someone. The table had carvings on the edges, which were like little markings that shimmered a bit in the light from the candles. It was like the table was alive and breathing because the shimmer, from the carvings seemed to be moving in time with the candlelight. The hall and the table and the carvings all seemed to be connected, like the hall. The table were one thing and the carvings were a part of the table and the candlelight was what made it all work together.
The chairs were put out with a lot of care they were evenly. They were waiting for the people who would sit in them. These people were nobles, strategists and powerbrokers the men and women of the table. The table felt crowded when it was empty because you could feel the tension, in the air the tension of the nobles the tension of the strategists the tension of the powerbrokers. The men and women of the table were people who made promises and threats. This was what made the table feel so crowded even when there was nobody sitting at the table.
Tonight the staff were the people in the space. The maids walked quietly between the chairs. They made sure the embroidered napkins were straight and the crystal goblets were in line. They polished the plates until they shone like the candle flames. The maids took steps, on the marble floor. They did not want to disturb the feeling in the room. The staff moved carefully so they would not make any noise. The silver plates and crystal goblets sparkled in the light of the candles. The room was still and the staff tried to keep it that way.
The air in this hall is really nice. It smells like jasmine and polished oak. The smell is sweet and sharp at the time. This hall is beautiful. It is also a place where important people make big decisions and they make them official. The air in this hall reminds me that this is a place of authority, where important things happen and big decisions are made and finalized by the people, in charge the authority figures in this hall.
The maid stopped by a window and her fingers touched the cold glass. The twin moons were shining outside above the courtyard. They made the water, in the fountain look really pretty. The maid forgot what she was supposed to be doing for a second. She just looked at the city. The twin moons and the city were really beautiful.
Life outside the window was really calm and peaceful. People and horses with carriages were moving in and out of the gates all the time. The carriages had lanterns that hung from them. These lanterns were moving gently back and forth like fireflies in the night. It was like something was helping them move in a line.
The world, outside the walls of the place was going on without worrying about what time it was or being quiet. Life was just moving along at its pace beyond the stone walls.
The northern wind came through the window and touched her face. It smelled like pine trees that were really away. You could smell how fresh and clean they were. There was also a bit of salt in the air, which reminded her of the ocean that was really far away too. This smell made her feel like she wanted to do something it reminded her that the world is a big place and there is a lot to see outside of where she was. The northern wind and the smell of the pine trees and the sea made her think about what it would be like to walk away, from everything and do what she wanted without anyone telling her what to do.
Inside the hall the vastness of the place felt far away. Everything in this hall was very orderly and symmetrical with rules that nobody was brave enough to ask questions about. The servants moved quietly across the floors with their eyes looking down their hands very steady and they held their breath for just a little bit too long as if they even had to be careful about the air they breathed. The grand hall was a place where the servants had to be very careful, about what they did. The rules of the grand hall were not to be questioned.
The chandeliers were shining nicely above us. The area under them felt really cold. It was like something was weighing heavily on the space even though we could not see it. The chandeliers were still shining above but this did not change the cold feeling, under them.
"Everything must be perfect," whispered a butler as he adjusted a candelabra. His voice was low, almost conspiratorial, yet sharp enough to slice through the stillness. "Count William will not tolerate disorder. Not tonight."
