Chapter 672: Welcome Home [Part-2]
Welcome Home [Part-2]
Stillness filled the space between them. Her head leaned on him, close to where his heart beat. Words stayed unspoken. Instead, there was only breath, warmth, the quiet sound of being near.
Breathing against his chest, she listened - each beat a quiet anchor pulling her back to now. Cloth gathered under her hand, knuckles whitening just slightly, holding on like memory tends to slip. He stayed. Warm. Unmoving. Not fading at the edges like things do when sleep unravels. Her thumb brushed threadbare cotton near his shoulder - not asking, just checking. Still here. Even silence felt solid, shaped around them like something built to last.
Eventually she spoke, soft and close, a quiet ache in her words like something held back too long. You’ve lost weight, she said, almost under her breath. Her eyes stayed on his face, tracing what had changed.
A quiet chuckle slipped out of Leon, barely more than a breath against her strands. "It’s something you catch every time," he said
Everything shows up clear to me, Aria answered. Backing off a little, she studied his face - like something there might explain what he kept silent about - then closed the gap again, arms pulling him close. All that tightness stored in her body began to slip away, softening into quiet release, stronger than anything spoken. We could have carried it too, she murmured after a pause.
"I know," Leon said, his tone softer now. "I didn’t want to burden you."
Cynthia came behind - calm, steady, yet her hands stayed wrapped around him, stretching past what was usual. A breath slipped out as she shut her eyes, drawing in air like she wanted to keep the smell forever. Her voice curled low, barely there: "You’re still here."
A steady pressure pressed into the small of her back - Leon’s touch, quiet but sure. His words came slow: "That’s me," though everyone knew he meant it deeper than sound.
A breath slipped out, soft and measured, then she moved away. Her face looked steady once more - yet something flickered behind her gaze, a near slip held just beneath the surface.
Out of nowhere, Syra showed up just as Kyra did - matching smiles lighting things up like they’d rehearsed silence. Hugs came from both sides, sudden but smooth, joy spilling into the air between them. Their arms wrapped around him, steady and known, as if this moment had happened a hundred times before.
"Hubby," Syra said lightly, tilting her head to study him. "Next time you disappear like that, we’re chaining you to the bed."
Leon snorted. "That sounds less like a threat and more like motivation."
Kyra elbowed him gently, her smile softer. "Don’t make us wait again," she added, just as softly. "We don’t like wondering if today is the day we stop waiting."
The smile softened, letting something real slip through. "I’ll return," he said. Each promise landed like a quiet vow.
A quick squeeze, tight like armor locking into place - Nova held on hard enough to feel real. Her hands pressed deep, checking if he’d stay or slip through. Eyes lifted when she stepped away, steady on his face, needing no words before one sharp nod ended it.
On her feet, she spoke these words.
"Because of you," Leon replied.
That was enough.
Mia hesitated.
Twisting at her waist, her hands moved like restless birds, never still. One foot edged ahead, just slightly, before freezing mid-motion. Her eyes jumped from Leon to the group, then snapped back again. Something inside seemed torn - pulling toward warmth but held by an invisible thread. First doubt arrived, sharp and sudden, followed closely by a quiet hunger that flashed across her features.
Cassidy noticed.
Her fingers pressed into Mia’s palm, steady and sure, before she moved ahead without waiting. Leon felt the hug - soft at first, then firm, like a dam giving way after too long under pressure. A small shake ran through her words as they came out, barely there but impossible to miss.
"Next time," Cassidy said with a small, tired smile, "welcome us properly. My heart nearly broke on the road."
Her back pressed into him just as his arms closed in. Warmth ran down from where he touched above her head. The weight of his jaw on her scalp stayed soft.
"I know," he said quietly. "I felt it too." Then, softer still, "I’ll do better."
Cassidy eased away slightly, her gaze locked on his face, bright with emotion. "See that you do," she whispered, then moved to one side.
Mia took a breath, then stepped ahead slowly. Pink touched her face, each foot placed like it mattered. She reached for Leon, hugging him gently - almost questioning - with hands that barely pressed. His head dipped toward hers, creating a shelter just by how he stood.
His voice was low, meant only for her ears. "You’re safe," he told her.
A shaky breath caught in Mia’s throat. Her head moved up and down once - no voice came out - but light flickered behind her eyes. For just a second, she leaned forward, touching her forehead to his chest, then stepped back.
Lira stepped forward just as Sona drew near. Together they moved, closing the distance at once.
Mother and daughter.
Wives.
A moment held him still, eyes fixed on them. Softness crept in, turning his stare quiet, intimate. Lira was pulled close, drawn into a hug that carried weight - time, struggle, loyalty - all moving between them, silent.
Lira broke the silence with a soft remark. Her words carried quiet strength. They settled like dust after wind.
Leon exhaled. "So did you."
Into his embrace she moved, without pause. Around him her arms went, steady and sure - no second thoughts, no waver. Silence grew thick nearby, like the air itself had noticed a piece falling where it always belonged.
Home now," Sona stated flatly.
For just a beat more he kept her close, then spoke - his words quiet but steady.
