Chapter 1771: Chapter 1628 Twin Destiny (Part 2)

The Dark Cliff lies behind the Heavenly City and Palace. This is a completely desolate land, devoid of any life or vegetation.

In fact, the land within the Heavenly Palace itself rarely has any vegetation. So, when Yusuo was very, very young and discovered a Good-Evil Flower with holy blue and vibrant red colors blooming at the edge of the Dark Cliff, she made that place her secret little world.

Whenever she was heartbroken and didn’t want to confide in her older sister, Yuqie, she would sit by the cliff, let the wind from beyond the Star River blow through her hair, and gaze at the distant stars hidden within the endless darkness.

Knowing that plants required nutrients to survive, she would, from time to time, secretly steal a portion of the power of Divine Dew from the Human Mother’s room.

She never took the entire drop of Divine Dew, only siphoned a portion of its energy to drip onto the petals of the Good-Evil Flower. That way, the solitary flower blooming in the Heavenly Palace could continue to grow.

The Divine Dew was something Yuqie used for meditation and recovery. Yuqie, of course, noticed when its energy diminished. She also knew who the culprit was. Compared to recklessly killing Sky Demons or Heavenly Demons, Yuqie thought Yusuo’s act of using the Divine Dew to nurture a small life was inconsequential. For this, she always chose to turn a blind eye.

...

The Moon Spring at the Tower of Ten Thousand Floors was another place Yusuo frequently visited.

There used to be girls who would play and chat here, but whether it was because her sister became the Totemic Goddess or because of Yusuo’s past mistake that plunged the city into panic, those girls who once came often now deliberately kept their distance from Yusuo.

The Heavenly Palace had changed. It suddenly felt distant, and everyone within it seemed like strangers.

There, sitting alone by the spring, she overheard people say that from this spring one could see the world below.

And so, she kept staring, her gaze fixed on the calm surface of the spring.

"This spring can really show our world?" Bai Jinrou, standing beside Yusuo, earnestly stared at the spring.

"Yes, this is the Mirror Spring. The Soul Temple also has springs like it, capable of showing scenes from the Immortal City," Chu Mu nodded.

"At this time, she must be yearning for the lands of the Mortal World," Bai Jinrou said softly.

"In an environment full of constraints and controls, being different indeed comes with a price," Chu Mu remarked.

As the two spoke, a figure appeared beside the spring.

The figure seemed to be someone in his early twenties, with a refined appearance, but his eyes held many hidden emotions.

"Yusuo." The man smiled faintly and approached her.

Yusuo glanced at the man, a trace of disgust surfacing in her heart.

At some point, Yusuo had stopped dressing the same as her sister Yuqie. Her style had always been her own, and it was for this reason alone that no one confused her with her elder sister anymore.

As for the man in front of her, her distaste for him was perfectly reasonable. She could never forget how, back at the pavilion, this man had referred to her as a mere accessory.

What was laughable was that this man thought she hadn’t heard him. Yet now, here he was, showing up frequently and shamelessly trying to court her.

"Some people are really amusing. When she was younger, they called her an accessory. Now that she’s grown up and become beautiful, they lower themselves to pursue her..." Bai Jinrou said.

Chu Mu didn’t say anything. If it were only because of the term "accessory," Yusuo wouldn’t harbor such deep hatred for Yutian.

Could it be that Yutian had used some insidious scheme, doing something shameful to her?

No, that kind of person should’ve been me, not him.

"Recently, we were patrolling outside the city. Do you know what we saw?" Yutian started trying to start a conversation.

Yusuo was entirely uninterested.

Yutian kept talking, "It was a type of plant soul pet, what the older generation calls a Flower Demon Ancestor. You wouldn’t believe how terrifying the scene was — beneath the Dark Cliff, vines as thick as monstrous demon serpents were everywhere, covering the area like a serpent’s nest."

"Dark Cliff?" Yusuo froze for a moment.

Wasn’t that the place where she had been nurturing the Good-Evil Flower?

The Good-Evil Flower was frail and small. The Heavenly Palace’s environment wasn’t suitable for plants to grow at all. If not for her years of secretly nurturing it with the Divine Dew, the small Good-Evil Flower would’ve long withered and died.

But the thought that there might be a terrifying Flower Demon Ancestor beneath the Dark Cliff startled her. That small Good-Evil Flower would surely be devoured!

Without a second thought, Yusuo bolted toward the Dark Cliff.

That flower was the only one in the entire Heavenly Palace. To Yusuo, it was like herself, living in a world with which it was fundamentally incompatible.

After years of nurturing, Yusuo already considered it her soul pet. How could she let it be devoured by the monster beneath the Dark Cliff?

"The Good-Evil Flower is the Flower Demon Ancestor... Yusuo is just overthinking," Bai Jinrou remarked as she watched Yusuo’s anxious departure.

"Mm, perhaps many years ago the Good-Evil Flower was indeed just a small plant, but so much time has passed..."

Chu Mu still harbored curiosity. Why did Yusuo harbor such immense resentment toward Yutian?

If Yuqie were the Totemic Goddess, wouldn’t Yusuo’s current actions directly oppose her elder sister?

Could it be that there had been a significant rift between the two sisters, turning them from the closest of family into bitter enemies?

Such an outcome would be truly tragic, Chu Mu thought.

Yet, something felt off. Yusuo’s inner resentment and anger couldn’t be explained simply by a familial fallout. It seemed more complex than that...

While Yusuo and Yuqie had very different personalities, one could still see Yusuo’s reliance on her sister, just as when they were little. Yuqie, like a mother, had always been composed, calm, and wise. She had never lost patience with Yusuo, enduring all of her tantrums and acts of rebellion with tolerance. Her genuine smiles were reserved only for her younger sister, Yusuo. Their bond shouldn’t have been something that external forces could interfere with or sever.

"Chu Mu, what are you thinking about?" Princess Jinrou asked, noticing Chu Mu’s silence.

"I’m thinking of the look in Yutian’s eyes earlier," Chu Mu replied.

...

Yusuo didn’t have any soul pets to assist her and could only run on foot toward the Dark Cliff.

Gradually, she left the Heavenly City behind, passed through the desolate land behind the Heavenly Palace, and moved further and further away from it.

The Dark Cliff drew nearer and nearer. Thinking about the colossal, terrifying floral demon beneath it, Yusuo’s face became pale.

But how could she bear to see that single flower be devoured just like that?

"Creak... creak... creak~~~~~~~~~~~~"

Suddenly, the ground ahead of Yusuo split open, revealing a massive fissure!

From within the dark blue-black crevasse emerged a monstrous creature with a scaleless skull!

Then its claws appeared. Between its arms and claws stretched black flesh wings resembling those of a bat!!

A monster of this kind, Yusuo had encountered countless times before, even in her nightmares — it was a Sky Demon, the species that threatened the survival of the Heavenly Palace!!

How could there be a Sky Demon here!!!

The land between the Heavenly Palace and the Dark Cliff wasn’t suitable for living creatures. It was utterly desolate, incapable of sustaining any life!!

Yet, here was a Sky Demon, right before her eyes!!

This creature’s body wasn’t particularly large, but from its aura alone, Yusuo could tell — this was the strongest Sky Demon she had ever encountered!!

It wasn’t an ordinary Sky Demon beast; this was a genuine Sky Demon King!

From its eyes burned an undeniable fury!!

Because over the many long years, the Sky Demon species had always feasted on the humans they found delicious. Yet one day, those same Sky Demons who went out to feast were mercilessly slain by this very girl, not a single one returning alive!

"Heh heh... so delicious... what a delicious morsel of a woman..." the Sky Demon King sneered, its thick, salivating throat spewing forth human speech!!

Yusuo froze in place, utterly stunned that this Sky Demon monster could speak human words!

Chu Mu and Princess Jinrou, standing nearby, were equally dumbfounded. Certain soul pets with immense spiritual power could communicate mentally with humans, but verbal communication was nearly unheard of. A Fox Elder or Fishman Princess could speak because their kind bore human bloodlines.

Could this grotesque Sky Demon also possess human lineage?

"I... I like... like the scent... the scent on your body..." the Sky Demon King lumbered forward, step by step, closing in on Yusuo!

Paralyzed with fear, her body gripped by the monster’s terrifying aura, Yusuo couldn’t move. She could only watch as the creature advanced closer and closer.

At that moment, the purple crystal pendant around Yusuo’s neck seemed to sense her life was in danger, suddenly glowing with a brilliant violet light!

Seeing the purple crystal, Chu Mu suddenly recalled their previous battle in Wanxiang City, where that same pendant had been shattered by his own attack...

And if his memory was correct, Yuqie also wore an identical crystal pendant around her neck.

The crystal formed a violet shield to protect Yusuo.

Yet the Sky Demon’s strength was overwhelming. A single strike shattered the violet shield into dust, its immense force nearly ripping apart the barren land!

Yusuo was entirely consumed by terror. The defensive spells she had learned proved useless. Even if she managed to chant a spell successfully, against an opponent as powerful as the Sky Demon King, it would be utterly futile!

As Yusuo remained defenseless and exposed beneath the approaching claw of the monster, Bai Jinrou grew nervous as well.

From the direction of the Heavenly Palace, a violet beam of light streaked toward them like an enraged meteor, moving at unimaginable speed!! (To be continued.
