Chapter 314: Strikeback begins (1)

“Hey! Over here and be careful! Move it to the storage room!”

“Be careful over there! That’s gunpowder!”

“Didn’t you hear the instructions?! Food is stored there! Don’t come this way!”

“I’m sorry, sir!”

“Ugh, what is this smell anyway? Is something rotting in there? Hey, stop! Is that even food?”

One of the carts was stopped and the officer who was in charge of supplies quickly came over and pulled off the cover. Inside, there was a chopped up pile of dead horsemeat.

“Ugh! Horses?!”

The officer frowned and backed away as the soldier nodded.

“Yes, Sir Burel. It’s a dead horse from yesterday’s fight. We could only bring it back today. Baron Gerdan told us to move it back so we can process it and use it as meat. There will be a few more of these carts coming, sir.”

“Ugh, Baron Gerdan said that?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Are you sure we can eat this?”

“Yes, sir. We can boil soup with the bones.”

The war had been going very well. As the first to attack, the Dentrion Kingdom was able to occupy a total of seventy-nine fortresses from the Khalodian Empire. It was a sneak attack, but the victory came easily. They had been well-prepared to strike at the Empire and it paid off.

Now, the Dentrion Kingdom was readying to strike their next target, inwards of the Empire.

‘Hah! They are nothing without their emperor!’

Burel smiled. There was still a long way to go with the war, but it was hard to hold back his excitement. However, there were still concerns. Aside from the Dentrion Kingdom, none of the other countries were able to occupy a single fortress. None of them even crossed the border of the Empire.

With the Empire working quickly to replenish its border troops and supplies, the war had become stagnant and nothing much happened in the last two weeks. However, the Dentrion Kingdom was now preparing to move forward onto the next step.

“Come on! Move!”

The soldiers moved about quickly to prepare. They were busy with preparations, but all of them seemed eager as they were highly motivated by their victory against the Empire.

‘It’s almost time now.’

It was now four in the early morning. Squadron Lieutenant Captain Rex was smoking his cigarette in an enclosed room that was connected with many metal pipes. He was opening the ends of the pipes one by one and was listening to the voices that came through. Rex then glanced at a small box in the corner of the room. It was full of explosives, prepared to be detonated in case of any emergency to remove all evidence.

Rex then checked the map that was pasted on the wall. There were markings on the map, totaling seventy-nine, throughout the border. They indicated the explosives that had been set in each fortress. And with just a flick of a finger, all of them would explode.

“As much as I want to see it, it is still an honor to blow up all these places myself.”

Rex then pressed the switch in his hand. With the mighty roar of explosions from outside, all the pipes trembled and shook, and the vibrations of the explosions seeping through. Rex was also able to hear the faint screams of people and animals through the pipes.

It was the start of the Empire striking back.
