And so, more than a dozen years passed.

Calogero had grown into a young man, and had become an adept Deputy High Priest.

He now oversaw the church’s operations but always maintained respect for the High Priest, to whom he owed much.

He remained unmarried.

Although he frequently received flirtatious glances, no woman had shown enough initiative to pursue a relationship with him. He, too, hesitated to take the step due to his special ability.

Calogero had given up, thinking that a man with the skill to see sins would be too scary to date, let alone marry.

Until yesterday, nothing had changed. Calogero continued his life as a priest, listening to people’s confessions, urging atonement, and cleansing their sins.

He thought today would be another ordinary day… However, Calogero’s peace was shattered.

He was informed by the Mayor that a Lord had appeared at the long-abandoned fortress, and a notice was issued requiring everyone to gather there in a week’s time.

If they didn’t gather, the town’s repairs would not proceed.

Calogero furrowed his brows, thinking it might be a threat. However, the Mayor read Calogero’s expression and waved his hand.

“It’s not a threat. The one who became the Lord is simply saying that they’ll repair the town if the townspeople recognize her as their Lord. …Well, it’s understandable. After all, she’s a young girl. Just take it as the whim of a child.”

Calogero was stunned this time.

What could such a young girl possibly accomplish? However, he decided that he must discern what kind of sins she bore, so he headed to the assembly. What he saw there left him in shock.

―The young girl standing on the platform was entirely free of sin.

Her expression was blank, and her small body seemed fragile.

Calogero recalled something the High Priest had once told him:

“If there is someone without sin, it is proof that they are a pitiful person who has not interacted with others.”

The young girl standing there was precisely that.

The girl unleashed magic.

Only Calogero could recognize it.

However, that magic felt incredibly pleasant.

At that moment, Calogero thought to himself that God had sent her.

The pure, sinless young girl had become the Lord.

If that were the case, he decided then and there to support her and protect her from all sins.

―While he was gazing at Sylvia with those thoughts in mind.

A man, who until then had escaped his notice, knelt before Sylvia.

Calogero was utterly shocked as he looked at the man.

Written upon him, in vivid, blood-dripping crimson letters, were the charges of sins, the likes of which Calogero hadn’t seen in over a decade.

*

“…Calogero, I understand your concern. But, as I’ve said multiple times, sins are-”

“High Priest. I understand what you’re saying. However, if things remain as they are, Lady Sylvia will be in danger. I must protect the first sinless, innocent young girl I have ever seen… from that sinful man…”

The High Priest tried various ways to stop him, but Calogero wouldn’t listen.

He made preparations to hand over his duties and set off to join Sylvia.

Calogero was troubled by the fact that Sylvia had repaired and reopened the bridge.

After more than a decade, it was unlikely that the Chief Justice was still pursuing him, tracking his whereabouts and massacring the residents along with him. Especially now, with the daughter of a Duke from a neighboring country residing in the fortress as the Lord, such actions would undoubtedly lead to a war caused by the Chief Justice’s sins.

Moreover, it was unclear whether the Chief Justice was still committing sins. He might have already been captured and punished.

However, Calogero couldn’t afford to let his guard down.

Calogero apologized to the High Priest for deceiving him for so long and explained his circumstances.

“…Given those circumstances, it can’t be helped. However, you should speak with the Lord.”

The High Priest suggested, but Calogero shook his head in response.

“I would love to tell the Lord, but as long as that sinful man remains by her side, it’s too dangerous.”

The High Priest was at a loss.

He wondered what kind of sins the knight guarding the Lord could possibly be burdened with.

Dealing with the stubborn Calogero now was as challenging as it had been when he was in his adolescence.

“…Calogero. Please understand, I’m sorry to bring up the past, but there have been cases like that of the lady before. Listen to their confession, urge atonement. If you purify them in that way–”

“High Priest, his sins are not of that nature. Neither confession nor atonement will ever be forgiven if they’re merely superficial.”

Calogero responded with a beautiful smile, leaving the High Priest at a loss.
