Chapter 467- Second Phase (2)
Chapter 467: Chapter 467- Second Phase (2)
Air trembled and mana swirled violently as the beast prepared its wide area annihilation skill.
"It’s using an AOE attack. Brace yourselves!" Rolan hurriedly cried out. But the Cerberus was faster.
It fired a breath of destruction that packed enough might to erase this place.
"[Release- Tiamat]." Kevin jumped in front and thrust his sword forward.
Tiamat devoured the oncoming breath, its large maw easily swallowing the powerful attack the Cerberus dished out at them.
That said, this instance was different from the previous ones. Having seen the young man devour its attacks many times, the beast learned from its failures and adapted itself to the battle.
During the previous fight, it was carefully observing the squire use his skills and techniques and counted the interval between each of them, which is why it knew that the boy with the crimson sword could not use the same ability consecutively in quick succession.
GRRR... The middle head of the Cerberus snarled; a grin could be seen appearing on its face at this moment. The two other heads opened their mouths, condensed breaths of destruction flashing in their throats.
Kevin opened his eyes in horror; he realised that he had fallen for the trap. It was the same for the other squires, too. They realised that the beast had laid a trap, one that was meant for Kevin.
It had realised that, out of all the abilities of the squires, the boy with the crimson sword represented the highest danger and unpredictability. The latter was the one who had been stopping most of its powerful attacks since the start. Now with that ability gone, there was nothing to stop it.
Gwen, Rolan, Delicia, Stark used their powerful skills, and Kevin forced himself to use the devouring ability again. But it was too late.
BOOOOOM!!!!!
The remaining two beams collided into the arena, swallowing dozens of squires in a blinding explosion. The shockwave threw Kevin and the remaining four against the wall like ragdolls.
"Gugh!" The boy groaned, biting his teeth to endure the pain. He could feel some of his bones break from the impact, and blood surged out from his mouth.
"Is everyone alright?" He coughed and looked around.
TEEEEEE... A high-pitched noise rang inside his head, and his vision was completely covered by dust.
Slowly, when the dust began to settle, he could see the figures of his comrades again. All of them except for Gwen, Rolan, Delicia, and Stark were rendered unconscious.
As for the four, they were not in any good state either. The breath attack did a number on them. While they were still conscious and moving, it didn’t seem like they would be able to continue fighting any longer.
All of this from just a single attack from the Cerberus. The beast, standing true to its legendary S class rank, was a force to be reckoned with.
Was it still too early for squires like them to face it?
Be that as it may, with everyone down, someone had to do something. And so, while propping his battered body up, he dragged the sword along with him to stand in front of the beast again.
"Wait... don’t... Kevin."
Gwen cried out, seeing him face the beast all alone. She pushed her body to the limit to try and stand up. However, it refused to listen. The same could be said for Rolan and the others.
"Dammit... Dammit... Dammit... Why can’t I get into that state again?" The former punched the floor in annoyance.
Try as he might, Rolan was unable to enter the state of [One with the Sword]. Seeing Kevin, who was one year junior to him, stand up to face the beast while his own body refused to listen, made him feel pathetic and disappointed in himself.
The Cerberus advanced towards the boy, drool falling from its mouths continuously. Its fangs were long like daggers, its eyes were like pits of malice, feral and filled with bloodlust, and its crimson fur radiated a powerful heat.
In that moment, in that situation, it looked like a nightmarish creature that came straight from hell.
BAM... The creature stomped down, cracking the floor. It then raised its front paw, ready to reap the life standing in front of it.
"Come!!" Kevin shouted defiantly, his body wobbling a little.
Clearly, he was in no state to battle either. However, with his comrades down, he willed his body up with superhuman levels of willpower. That’s right, what was powering him at this moment was none other than reckless drive and the will to protect.
Kevin braced himself. Nevertheless, no matter how much he waited, the attack never came.
What was going on?
Looking up, he saw the Cerberus frozen in place. What’s more, given its looks, it didn’t appear that it had stopped due to an injury. No, it stopped due to an emotion much more primal.
Kevin’s eyes shifted from the Cerberus’s paw to its eyes. At that moment, to his disbelief, what the squire saw was... fear!! The creature that had single handedly destroyed them all.
The creature who was like calamity incarnate. A legendary Class S monster that had gone extinct a long time ago. Yet such a powerful creature was at this moment showing the signs of fear?
When he saw that, another question popped into his head. Just what or who was the creature so afraid of?
Chime... Chime~...
Before he could ponder it, a sound that fell completely out of place with the atmosphere here rang out.
Something; no, someone was approaching. A faint chiming sound accompanied their footsteps, slow, delicate, and rhythmic.
However, every time the sound came closer, the beast’s fear became even more pronounced.
Finally, that person stopped just behind the Cerberus.
Turning around, Kevin and the others noticed that it was the Queen. The sound was from the chime of the anklets she wore.
"Y-Your Majesty?!"
Kevin questioned, perplexed. The fact that she woke up from the mysterious unconscious state that plagued the entire population of the capital was shocking.
