Chapter 475- Minerva: Origin (4)
Chapter 475: Chapter 475- Minerva: Origin (4)
The knights fought their way through collapsed corridors and ancient traps, avoiding dormant, powerful weapons.
Reinhardt quietly followed them.
After what felt like hours but played out in fast forward, they reached a structure rising from the earth like a half-buried monolith.
A massive dome, covered in moss. Though the ravages of time had crushed it in places, its shape still hinted at the sophisticated craftsmanship used to build the place, craftsmanship far beyond the current era.
The knight order forced open the doors and entered.
The inside of the building was chaotic, just like it should be. Shattered consoles and machines, weapon schematics projected in holograms, artifacts and data slates scattered like fallen leaves.
Sigh... Reinhardt exhaled slowly. Yes... he had seen similar scenes many times before. This was not new to him.
The labyrinths that were created by the Arcanists held great treasures and weapons that could help humanity fight against the demons. The numerous inventions that came from the Kingdom of Lunaris were all thanks to the knowledge preserved in these fortresses.
The dream should have ended here. However, at that moment, a commotion erupted among the knights. They rushed toward one of the inner chambers.
Reinhardt followed behind, and when he laid his sight on the thing inside, his heart pounded for the first time since he entered this dream.
Inside the room stood a large cylindrical pod. It was frozen, but still intact. Its glass surface was frosted thick enough to distort the figure within; however, Reinhardt could make out how the figure looked.
The commander of the knight order wiped his hands across the glass, and finally, the sight inside was in clear view of everyone.
Inside the cryogenic stasis sphere, suspended in a pale blue liquid... was a woman. Her crimson hair floated in the liquid, her face extremely beautiful, and her aura serene and elegant.
Even while asleep, the woman exuded an inborn grace and authority. Those features were unmistakable; the woman inside the pod was none other than the Queen.
How long had she been here? What was this timeline? What was real?
Numerous questions floated inside Reinhardt’s mind. Before he could ponder over it, the dream was over.
.
.
Reinhardt opened his eyes and found himself still locked in a heated kiss with the Queen. Her lips were pressed against his, her arms looped around his neck, and her tongue coiling around him in an intoxicated, yearning manner.
The burning atmosphere between them made even the dream he had just experienced pale in comparison.
Huff... The Queen broke the kiss with a soft, wet sound. A thread of saliva, like a reminder of their passion, tugged between their lips.
"Welcome back... my knight." She spoke with a mischievous smile, her pink eyes held his face within them.
Just as she promised, she revealed everything about herself.
Now, face to face with a being whose past was tied to a timeline so ancient that the world had forgotten about it, he felt the weight of her life.
"You are..."
The woman before him, the Queen, yet not the Queen, spoke in a poised and serene voice. "Mm. I am that fetus you saw in the vision. The life cultivated in that research facility. A body grown from Minerva’s cells. A vessel built to house two souls."
Reinhardt’s chest tightened. That confirmed everything. The fact that his title [Inquisitor of the Sacred Truth] did not react meant that there was no corruption, no deceit in her words. She was telling the truth.
"Then are you the same person that I saw in the dream?"
"That is incorrect. Although I share a fragment of her soul, I am my own person."
"Then your current appearance?"
"It’s the power of the fragment that was fused within me, the power of the demon." The Queen answered all of his questions without any iota of lie.
Reinhardt fell silent, his [Eyes of Divine Clarity] flickering as threads of truth aligned in real time as he pieced together what she was, what she had been, and what she had become.
Finally, after a while, he spoke in a soft voice that was unusual for him to take towards a demon.
"Can you bring the other soul/personality back?"
At that question, the Queen gave him a brilliant smile. "My knight, you speak like this is a possession. There is no enemy here, no usurper wrestling for control. It is merely a completion. This body always housed two souls, it’s just that due to a trigger that I surfaced again."
While explaining, she ran her hands against Reinhardt’s broad shoulders and manly chest.
"Then does that mean that the Queen is still alive?"
"That’s right. She is right here with me, just that she is too embarrassed to face you right now. We can interchange anytime we want."
"I see." Finally, he had the full picture. That said, even though he had full clarity on her situation, knowing and being able to accept it were two different things. To think that the Queen would have such a complex background.
"You spoke about a trigger? Just what was it that caused you to change like this?"
The Queen he had seen so far had never shown the slightest trace of demonic activity on her body. If she had, he would have known instantly; after all, given his many Divine Traits, he would have sensed even the minutest pulse.
However, this demonic side of hers never surfaced, not until today. While he was aware that she had a great destiny and was covered by providence, she never had the Status [Twin Host] and the titles [Empress of Calamity] and [Taboo] before.
"The trigger, huh? If I had to point it out, it would be the moment I caught the king’s eye."
Reinhardt stiffened.
"After I was rescued, I wandered the world for many centuries. I saw kingdoms crumble, wars swallowing the land, tragedies over and over, some natural, some manmade. Then I came to realise the world is incomplete and it needs to start all over again."
