Chapter 500: Chapter 500- Spirit Realm & The Fairy King Asterius (3)
"This is absurd. No one saw any of what he says. How can we believe it is true?"
"That’s right, he is simply spinning tales to cover his failure. How could it be that every threat he mentioned left no witnesses? He alone saw it? How convenient!"
Their words empowered the other nobles who were similarly hostile against the Divine Paladin to also raise their voices.
Like flies swarming over a corpse, they buzzed continuously, throwing accusations, ridicule, and denial.
Reinhardt turned a deaf ear to them and turned towards the throne, bowed slightly, and addressed the Queen.
"Your Majesty, with your permission, I would like to bring Earl Malmond and the demon responsible for this calamity."
At those words, the chamber fell silent. Especially those nobles who started the fiasco; their faces were a sight to see. A faint darkness surged within their eyes before disappearing in an instant.
The Queen gave a nod, not caring about the outburst of the nobles and ministers. "Guards, bring those two in."
The royal guards saluted and left. A few moments later, heavy footsteps echoed through the hall.
Everyone turned toward the doors. A royal guard walked out first, holding a chain. Behind him walked a man who was shackled with sturdy looking chains that restrained all his limbs. He looked pathetic, sweat soaked and trembling, his eyes darting around desperately as though seeking someone, anyone, to save him.
Who else could this person be other than Earl Malmond?
Right after him entered another person; no, being. Shackled from head to toe, the being was restrained by dozens of artefacts embedded into its limbs, chest, and spine.
Heavy chains glowing with runes suppressed its power. Its height towered over every knight. Its eyes glowed with a menacing crimson that rattled the mind of everyone gazing at it.
And its form was terrifying enough to give others nightmares.
The instant the being appeared, the temperature in the hall dropped. There was no doubt; the being in front of them was a demon. Even when restrained and weakened, its presence was still something.
Many of the nobles who couldn’t take the pressure felt their knees getting weak and buckling under.
A demon of this calibre... was not something ordinary humans could stand before. Even some fake knights felt their hearts squeeze as if an invisible hand had wrapped around their chest.
Of course, the likes of a High Ranking Demon, especially one that did not specialise in combat, was not even enough for the Seven Commanders to even bat an eye. They were seasoned veterans who had weathered calamities and had seen demons far worse and more nightmarish than the one in front of them.
The Seven Commanders straightened their gait and, releasing their own controlled but powerful auras, pressed back the demon’s oppressive presence.
Thanks to the Seven Commanders, the pressure in the hall lessened, allowing the weaker nobles to breathe again.
The Queen’s eyes landed on the two figures, her bearing regal and filled with authority. The her right now was not Minerva, but the Queen that Reinhardt knew.
"Earl Malmond, for conspiring with a demon and plunging the capital into chaos, do you accept your sins?"
Before the noble could say anything, he was cut off by the demon, who started laughing eerily.
"KEHEHEHEHE... HAHAHAHAHAHA!"
Its voice was so grating that it felt like nails scraping over glass; it was unbearable. The demon revealed a wide grin.
"Sins? You worms speak of sins? Do you even understand... the era that is coming?" Its crimson eyes flashed with a demonic light.
"Enjoy your remaining days. Humanity will fall, your cities will burn, and your roads will be drenched with blood. The demonkind will rule everything; the world will drown beneath... us."
Before the demon could complete its sentence, Reinhardt grabbed it by the throat and lifted it off the floor as if it weighed nothing.
The demon struggled, but it was impossible to resist the Divine Paladin.
"Pest, how dare you open your mouth when you haven’t been given the command to speak?" Saying that, he released a minuscule drop of his divine power to coat his grip. It was just a fraction of a fraction of his power. However, for the demon, it was still too powerful.
"AAAAAARGHHHHHHH... Stop... Stop... Sto...!"
The demon screamed. Under the divine powers of the Divine Paladin, its skin sizzled, and its soul burned. It might possess [Super Regeneration]; however, it was useless against holy and divine powers.
The demon, which had frightened the hall, now seemed so helpless and weak against the Divine Paladin, who did not even look like he was exerting any power.
At this display of power, the hall became speechless. The nobles who had started accusing him earlier instinctively took a step back.
That burst of divine energy earlier gave them an inborn sense of crisis. It was not only them. At that moment, every person in that hall, guards, nobles, ministers, advisors, were all forced to accept a truth they had forgotten.
The Divine Paladin was not merely a knight. He was a walking calamity against demons. A knight among knights, a force capable of reducing even a High Ranking Demon to a whimpering insect. If he wanted to, he could easily erase them all.
Reinhardt tightened his grip around the demon’s neck and began questioning it.
"I–I’ll talk! I’ll talk! J-Just don’t kill me!" The latter begged in a shrill voice. Its fear of the Divine Paladin was far too great.
And so, the demon started spilling all the information. It confessed to infiltrating Solaris more than ten years ago. It confessed to manipulating several nobles and the King.
The phenomenon that descended onto the capital, the tower’s emergence, the awakening of the Abyssal Compass, scheming against the Divine Paladin and the High Ranking Knights, and trapping them. It spilled all the information it had without a lie.
What’s more, everything that it told, matched with the testimony Reinhardt had given earlier, point for point, line for line.
