The Adventures of an Overpowered Knight in Another World

Chapter 507- Purge (4)

Chapter 507: Chapter 507- Purge (4)

At the same time, the realisation that these people had long betrayed humanity struck everyone.

"Kukuku..." Veylor, or rather the demon who took the guise of him, laughed. "I applaud; you all are not completely brainless. Nevertheless, I, or rather we, have been mixing among you for so many years, yet you only realised it now. I don’t know whether to commend or ridicule you humans."

"Truly pathetic. They have long walked into our traps again and again. And yet they never realised anything." Another demon added.

Then, one after another, they started spitting comments of ridicule. Laughter and cruel remarks filled the hall. But beneath their amusement, everyone could clearly see the irritation written all over their faces.

Their disguise was blown, and their plan had gone awry; how could they not be mad? Soon, their laughter ceased, and they cursed out loudly.

"Damn you, Divine Paladin. Because of your meddling, no, because of your existence, so many of our plans have failed. You are the greatest thorn in our side. However, don’t get conceited. Even if our plans have failed to kill you so far, you will still die by our hands sooner or later."

Usually, these people who were always at odds with Reinhardt would mask their killing intent. However, with their guise blown, there was no longer any pretence in their words, nor did they hide their hostility.

After threatening the Divine Paladin, they declared solemnly and ominously. "Humans, don’t think that you have a long time in your hands. The Seven Kingdoms will crumble. And humanity will drown in eternal darkness."

These people; no, these demons spoke as though they held the advantage, as if they were the ones in power and controlling the fate of everyone here. But the truth was far from that.

Even as they mocked and postured, they were secretly conjuring their spell, pouring every demonic energy inside their body into the magic circle behind them. They were desperately preparing a spatial gate.

Soon, the air behind them warped, and a swirling black gate formed. The moment the spatial portal stabilised, the demons turned towards the humans and ominously declared.

"Farewell, humans. The next time you will not be as lucky." Saying that, they started backtracking towards the gate.

As it turns out, they were planning to escape from the beginning. The burst of power earlier and the powerful speech were all just a deception; their real motive was to escape from the start.

"Leaving, are we?"

That said, it begs mentioning that the place they were in currently was the royal palace and the ones in attendance right now were the Seven Commanders, the strongest knights in the entire kingdom. Even thinking about running away in front of them was a foolish endeavour.

Needless to say, the moment the spatial gate formed, they were already in motion. However, before they could take action, before even a breath of battle intent could leak from them, Reinhardt moved.

From beginning to end, he had not removed his hand from his sword hilt. He had stood there as still as a statue, but the instant he sensed the spatial gate stabilising, his hands moved.

SHING... To everyone except the Seven Great Commanders, everything that happened next bordered on impossibility. All they saw was him sheathing his sword back and five heads hitting the floor.

Needless to say, the five heads belonged to the demons. The slice was clean; there was no resistance, scream, or spray of blood. Everything was engulfed in a white fire that purged their demonic bodies.

The flames devoured them instantly, leaving nothing but smouldering white ash blowing across the shattered hall.

Gasps erupted throughout the assembly. The nobles, in their horror, finally realised what would have happened had they also refused to go through the trial or collaborated with the demons.

They gulped hard and for a second imagined their own heads rolling across the marble. The nobles were shocked, but so were the commanders.

While others didn’t catch his movements, they saw what happened in that instant. The moment the five demons shifted their bodies to step towards the spatial gate, Reinhardt drew his sword so fast that it was impossible for mortal eyes to capture.

In that fraction of a moment, his sword cleaved through reality like a streak of white lightning, white flames burning soundlessly at the edges of his blade.

It wasn’t just a slash; it was a strike that passed through space itself.

The demons barely had time to react before their heads were separated from their torsos. The Commanders exchanged glances. After fighting with him in the Grand Aegis Shatter, they knew Reinhardt had become stronger, but the speed, the ferocity, and the precision of that strike... it exceeded even their expectations.

Even they could barely register it.

That slash could have cut through a siege wall, possibly an entire battalion. Most of all, he did that while still standing in one place.

.

With the betrayers of humanity taken care of, the assembly reached a grim closure.

That said, everyone in the hall had an inkling; the torches carrying the Fire of the Willows and the buckets of Fairy Water told them this was merely the beginning.

Just like they predicted, Reinhardt turned towards the Queen and knelt on one knee.

"Your Majesty... I humbly request permission to conduct a crusade. Allow me to cleanse the capital of all demons that still lurk within the walls." His voice was calm and unwavering; however, his words struck the hall like thunder.

Shock rippled through the nobles; even the advisors exchanged alarmed looks.

Cleanse the entire capital? Doesn’t that mean open war within the city? As shocking as his declaration was, the Queen’s response was even more astonishing. She nodded her head, her voice filled with authority.

"Granted, Divine Paladin Reinhardt Arcknight, you shall cleanse the capital of every demonic presence."

Saying that, her eyes shifted towards the other commanders present in the hall.

"Additionally, this order extends to all Seven Great Commanders. Sir Brutus Sparta of the Order of the Blazing Sun..."
