Chapter 528- Journey
Chapter 528: Chapter 528- Journey
Reinhardt stepped forward and extended the egg with both hands. The Queen stared at it, stunned. At first glance, the egg might look like it was laid by some beast. However, when she looked at it carefully, she felt its powerful and ancient presence.
Even without knowing what it was, she instinctively knew that the thing was immeasurably precious.
"My knight," the Queen asked, her eyes never leaving the egg, "what is this... and why are you giving me something so extraordinary?"
Reinhardt smiled. "This egg will protect you from now on."
He had sworn an oath to protect her and keep her from harm’s way no matter what. However, as a knight and hero of Solaris, his duty was such that he could not just stay in one place constantly.
Which is why he needed someone who could protect her in his stead. What’s more, that being could not be weak either. From this event, it became clear that the demons were aiming for the power sleeping deep within her, and it was likely that this would not be their only attempt.
As his shadow, Karina was someone who could be entrusted with the job. However, she was in the end a wanted criminal and a former associate of the Organisation. If she stuck to the Queen, it would only make her position worse if Karina’s identity got revealed, which is why he needed something, a being more powerful than Karina, to protect Her Majesty.
Reinhardt’s eyes fell on the egg. "The beast that laid this egg can only do so once in its entire lifetime. To be chosen as its bearer is considered an unparalleled blessing, an omen of survival, rebirth, and protection."
The Queen did not hesitate and reached out; her trust in the knight was absolute. The moment she touched the egg, heat incredible enough to even melt steel surged from it. It was like holding living magma. Be that as it may...
"It’s warm." What she felt holding was not scorching heat, but rather a kind of warmth. The heat seeped into her palms, her arms, her chest, gently and reassuringly. The feeling was more like being embraced by wings than anything else.
Seeing the change in the Queen’s expression, Reinhardt nodded and explained. "Although I have awakened it, it will still need a trigger. Your Majesty, please feed it with your mana every day and speak to it. It will recognise you as its master."
In short, what he was asking was for her to act as the egg’s mother. The Queen followed his instruction and inserted some of her mana into the egg. At that instant, the egg pulsed brightly and brilliantly, like the core of a sun. It was just for a fleeting moment, but she felt like something within had responded to her mana.
Watching the scene from within the mind realm, Minerva couldn’t help but mutter in amazement. "This thing’s value is immeasurable."
At those words, the Queen couldn’t help but turn to her. "Do you know what kind of beast’s egg this is?"
As someone who had lived for hundreds of years, she thought that Minerva would know about it. However, even she shook her head, saying that she had no idea. "One thing is clear though. Whichever beast laid it, it has to be incredibly powerful."
A second later, though, her smile turned teasing. "To give something so incredible to you, he does have some conscience. It looks like he intends to stay true to his words. Anyways, it looks like my guess was off. He didn’t call you here to have sex."
At the bold and unfiltered words of her other half, the Queen blushed fiercely and glared at her other half.
Reinhardt left after bidding goodbye to the Queen.

Three days later, Snowpoint City. Reinhardt was buried by piles and piles of documents that were waiting for him to sign. Having been absent from the city for more than a month, quite a lot of work had accumulated on his desk.
Fortunately, his absence did not impact the development of the city as his exceptional secretary was there to handle it. That said, no matter how capable, she was in the end his secretary. Without him the Governor, most major tasks could not be completed.
And so on the day Reinhardt returned, he had to pull an all-nighter in his office. During the evening, a knock came from his door.
"Lord Reinhardt, Sir Vanguard wants to see you?"
At those words from a maid, Reinhardt furrowed his brows. Nonetheless, he glanced at Melissa next to him, who nodded and went out to fetch Vanguard. A few moments later, a young knight with grey hair and an unkempt appearance was standing in front of his desk.
Finished with the document he was working on, Reinhardt kept the pen away and looked at his subordinate. It hadn’t even been a day since they came back from the expedition together. What was so urgent that the knight sought him out?
"Speak."
Vangeance, who had been patiently waiting, finally opened his mouth. "Boss, I want to go on a journey."
"A journey? Did we just come back from an expedition? Don’t tell me you..." The knight nodded his head, flashing a smile that he could no longer hide. "I received a trial from the Altar."
Melissa, who had been listening to their conversation from the side, widened her eyes in surprise. What did it mean for a level 6 knight to receive a trial from the Altar? While she might not be a knight, even she knew that receiving a trial was necessary for someone at level 6 to reach the next level. In short, it meant...
"Hoh, so you gained the qualification to become a high-ranking knight, huh? That is great news."
That’s right. After one reaches level 6, one cannot level up like one used to before. The only way to reach level 7 is through receiving a trial from the Altar and going on a journey. Depending on the trial and your result, your future growth and class will be decided. As such, it could be said that for a level 6 knight, the trial was extremely important.
What’s more, Vangeance was only seventeen years old; his accomplishment was quite great and could even be compared to his own.
"A journey... huh. I know you are eager to complete the trial. However, you must wait for a few days before you go on your journey." Reinhardt instructed. Then, before the knight could get confused, he added. "I am planning to change the training of the order. Given the increase in demonic activities around the world, I believe it is high time for you all to learn this skill."
After Vangeance exited the room, Reinhardt once again delved himself into his work.
Time flew by, and by the time he realised how long had passed, it was already early morning.
"Kuh!" The Governor stretched his body and put his pen down. Though he would like to rest a little, the situation was such that he could not just leave his work unattended.
Reinhardt glanced at Melissa, who had fallen asleep on her table. One arm was cushioning her head, while the other still held the pen. To help him, she worked tirelessly through the night; it was only natural for her to be exhausted.
Reinhardt pried open the pen from her fingers, carried her off the chair, and laid her onto the sofa. Next, he covered her with his jacket and silently left the room, letting her sleep there.
Training Field... Before the sun peeked its head out of the snow-capped alps, the place was already buzzing with the members of the Temple of Light. The time was six in the morning, sharp. Not a single knight was absent.
High ranking knights stood with disciplined stillness, their gait straight like a sword despite the coldness of the early winter morning. The knights and squires, though visibly sore and bleary-eyed, still stood in line while possessing a sharp aura honed through experience and battles.
As for the new recruits, their faces and bodies bore faint bruises and aching muscles from the previous night’s initiation, the Temple of Light’s infamous Inauguration Ceremony, also known as the Newbie Crushing Ceremony.
Pitting the new recruits against older squires was the order’s long-standing tradition of breaking the ice. A trial that crushed arrogance, shattered fear, and imparted unity and bond into the recruits.
While crude and unorthodox, the results could be seen with one’s eyes. The new recruits, who had all gone through the same experience and suffered under the hands of their seniors, were now more open with each other, smiling and standing beside each other in shared camaraderie.
Reinhardt stood at the front, donned in boots and training gear. His unmatched presence erased all murmurs, and wherever his golden eyes passed through, that knight or member would instinctively puff their chest and straighten their backs.
That was the kind of respect and awe he commanded from his order.
