Chapter 663- The Formation Of The Dawnbringers
Chapter 663- The Formation Of The Dawnbringers
The demons in cages acted as bait.
If any suspicious movement was spotted, that person or group was immediately detained for questioning and purge.
That’s right, purge.
Even without needing the demons to play out as bait, Reinhardt possessed other means.
And by other means, he meant the Trial of Fire.
At one corner of the fortress grounds, emerald flames burned silently.
The fire of Yggdrasil, pure and sacred.
It had the power to burn all corruption.
Any evil, any knight who carried demonic taint, would be exposed instantly.
Only after passing all three trials were knights allowed to officially join the Dawnbringer.
And on the matter of the third trial, nobody was exempt.
Not even Level 8 Elite Knights.
Not even Heroes.
Every single person had to pass through the Trial of Holy Fire.
Naturally, nobody complained.
As knights who fought with their fair share of demons, they understood the inherent nature of the enemy.
Deception and cunning. The enemy wouldn’t hesitate to fall to any level to grab victory.
Reinhardt had witnessed the last part with his own eyes.
Even someone as powerful and respected as Sir Giacomo had been manipulated into accepting a demonic heart.
Heroes were mighty. But they were not invincible.
They were human and made ties. That’s what made them susceptible to manipulation.
And so, one after another, even the commanders calmly walked through the emerald flames of Yggdrasil.
Fortunately, the worst he imagined did not come to pass.
Although there were incidents of some Elite Knights who were manipulated into joining the demon side, there was no such concern on the part of Extreme Knights and Heroes.
Extreme Knights had reached the pinnacle of superhuman. Even a Demon General wouldn’t be their match if they weren’t prepared.
Naturally, knights of such caliber weren’t easy to manipulate.
Even if demons tried, they wouldn’t be able to shake their firm wills.
.
Days passed by.
With each passing day, the gigantic fortress became increasingly crowded.
Every day, many new knight orders would arrive. Many would be sent back packing.
Some reveled in excitement from passing. Others left in disappointment, motivated to get stronger.
Slowly, the Allied Knight Order, humanity’s strongest spear, was starting to take shape.
By now, the number of knights who had passed the harsh selection process had already exceeded fifty thousand.
And this number continued to grow daily.
The Six Great Kingdoms truly held nothing back.
Their elite knight orders arrived one after another.
Even the remaining Heroes scattered across Valdonia had answered the call.
And as the days passed, a terrifying realization slowly dawned upon everyone.
The number of Heroes gathered inside the fortress had surpassed thirty.
Thirty Heroes.
Thirty monsters capable of changing battlefields by themselves.
This was the true military might of humanity.
Its complete strength.
And seeing this, one could finally understand something.
Why humanity had survived for so long against the demons.
Because even for demonic forces, killing a Hero was never easy.
And right now, thirty of these undying monsters were gathered in that fortress.
Reinhardt stood atop the training platform. He quietly observed the ongoing trials.
Looking at the knights giving their all to join the Allied Knight Order and contribute to humanity’s greatest mission, he felt nothing but respect for these aspiring knights.
Even though they knew unimaginable danger lay deep within the Tainted Lands, they still boldly gave their best to achieve their dream.
Reinhardt was deep in thought when suddenly a booming laugh echoed across the fortress.
"Hahaha! Looks like we’re late!"
With the arrival of the speaker, the temperature of the surroundings instantly rose.
Heatwaves spread through the air.
Many knights turned around in shock.
Then an impressive knight order entered through the fortress gates.
Their banners carried the insignia of a blazing golden sun.
One didn’t need to think who this insignia belonged to. The order was extremely famous throughout Valdonia.
Order of the Blazing Sun.
One of the Seven Great Knight Orders of Solaris.
Leading them was none other than Hero Brutus Sparta.
With a hulking figure and clad in full body Spartan-like armor, he looked like a war god marching into battle.
Spotting Reinhardt atop the training platform, he quickly marched towards him.
Seeing him, Reinhardt too smiled faintly.
The two clasped forearms firmly in a gesture of camaraderie and trust.
"You look busy."
Brutus laughed loudly.
Reinhardt shook his head lightly.
"The others are out hunting and capturing demons. Someone has to manage this chaos. Today is my turn."
Brutus looked around and nodded in understanding.
"Haha! True enough."
After glancing around the fortress and sensing the presence stationed all around, even his eyes showed amazement.
The sheer gathering of power here was absurd.
"Is this the kingdom doing?"
"No need to worry. The kingdom is stable. The knights who failed the Dawnbringer selection are highly motivated to become stronger."
"They are working hard to guard the borders. In fact, morale across the kingdom has risen drastically. People finally believe humanity can fight back."
"I see."
Reinhardt nodded in relief.
That alone made this entire effort worthwhile.
Soon after, Brutus left to greet the other commanders.
Meanwhile, the Order of the Blazing Sun also began undergoing the three trials.
Later that evening, many commanders gathered atop the fortress walls.
From there, they could see countless campfires stretching endlessly across the plains below.
Tens of thousands of knights trained beneath the night sky.
The sight alone was breathtaking.
Brutus crossed his arms and laughed.
"Hahaha. To think humanity could gather this much power."
For the first time in a long while, there was excitement in his voice.
He turned toward Reinhardt.
"I feel optimistic about the upcoming expedition."
The latter nodded. His golden eyes burned bright.
"So do I."
.
.
The next day, the recruitment trials continued without pause.
The training grounds were noisier than ever.
Everywhere one looked, knights were fighting desperately to earn a place in the Dawnbringer.
Meanwhile, the knights from the Order of the Blazing Sun were still undergoing their assessments.
Don’t compare them with the order of the Temple of Light.
The order currently only possessed slightly over two hundred members.
After Reinhardt’s fall years ago, the Order had steadily declined.
It barely managed to maintain its title as one of the Seven Great Knight Orders of Solaris.
On the other hand, the Order of the Blazing Sun stood at the absolute peak of its glory.
For seven consecutive years, they had maintained the number one position amongst Solaris’ knight orders.
Every young aspiring knight in Solaris dreamed of joining them.
Their prestige and influence were overwhelming.
Even with Reinhardt’s return, shaking that foundation was no simple matter.
Naturally, due to the overwhelming numbers of the knights in Order of the Blazing Sun, it took much longer.
"Commandeer!!"
At this moment, an energetic voice suddenly echoed across the training grounds.
Many knights turned in annoyance.
Reinhardt, however, instantly recognized the voice.
Turning around, he saw a familiar group approaching him.
The speaker was obviously Kevin. Still as hyperactive and loud as ever.
Beside him were Gwen, Rolan, Delicia, Vengeance, and Silvia.
It appeared that they were finally back from the trial.
Glancing at them, Reinhardt’s eyes widened slightly in surprise.
The presence of everyone had changed.
It was stronger, sharper, and more powerful than before.
Clearly, their experience on the Island of Exile had not been ordinary.
The group stopped before Reinhardt and saluted properly.
Reinhardt acknowledged them with a nod before his gaze landed on Silvia.
"Looks like you passed the trial."
Since he was the one who taught them [Divine Beast Summoning], he could immediately tell.
Silvia had successfully formed a contract with the Gorgon Snake.
Silvia nodded seriously.
"I did not fail your expectations, Commander."
"Well done."
A rare smile appeared on Reinhardt’s face.
Hearing that praise, Vengeance immediately raised his head.
"Commander! I’m close to acquiring the skill too. Although Silvia beat me this time, I’ll definitely summon my divine beast Burma successfully in the future!"
Hearing his boastful words, Silvia could not help but shake her head.
"Well, knowing you, I’d be more surprised if you didn’t mess up your summoning process and embarrass yourself. Did you already forget what Medusa said?"
As those words left her mouth, the expression of the others turned strange.
They all glanced at Vengeance while trying to suppress their laugh.
But as always, there was someone who didn’t get the clue.
Kevin suddenly smacked his palm dramatically as if recalling something.
"Oh right! Medusa said Burma is an extremely lazy, foolish bear! Even if Senior Vengeance successfully summons him, there’s a high chance the bear won’t listen to anything."
"What’s more, Medusa hates Burma so much that she turned Senior Vengeance into stone like fifty times!"
PFFT.
Unable to hold it back any longer, the others instantly burst into laughter again.
Clearly, the memory was still fresh.
Even Gwen struggled to maintain her composure.
During their time on the Island of Exile, they had learned far more about Divine Beasts and the true nature behind [Divine Beast Summoning].
